Yo No Creo en los Hombres #35 Lunes 8/31/15

Chapter 35: Seeds of Suspicion

Doris had just finished telling Ari off about his “girlfriend” and shoved him off just as Max arrived. He came to the neighborhood to talk to Maria Dolores, but she put him off. He saw what looked like a party. “It's very important, about a lifelong friend,” she said. He backed off, telling her he would see her later because it was very important. She turned back to Doris, who was crying.

Alma sat up in her bed thinking about the previous afternoon. She was thinking about her brief exchange with Maleny about Isela. It was making her sick. The phone rang; it was Maleny, asking about Claudio. She seemed to want to sow seeds of suspicion. Alma thanked her for the flowers and apologized for not having called sooner. Maleny then said she hadn't heard about the gift delivered to the office for Claudio. Again with comments about Isela. Maleny said “For everything you've done for me, it was the least I could do.”

Doris apologized to Orlando for her mood on what should have been a happy occasion. At the same time Honoria got suspicious and pushed Josefa inside to ask what the hell happened to Isela. Orlando followed with his questions. He was sure Josefa knew where Isela was. Several times Josefa claimed to know nothing. She also didn't hesitate to insult the man. Esperanza was offended by Josefa's treatment of him. Josefa, as usual, didn't care. She continued to insult Orlando, shoving him in the chest toward the door, telling him to get out of her way. He stepped around her, telling her she would pay if he discovered she was lying to him. She walked out. Maria Dolores told him that Ari was right and Isela owed him an explanation for being late.

Ari was dragging Doris out, telling her not to tell Max anything. Maleny was planning to accuse Orlando for what had happened to Leo. Josefa had already made this claim to Claudio. Doris looked worried. She hoped Ari wasn't lying to her this time. He said he would have to warn Orlando. A car pulled up and they thought it would be Isela. They tried to duck out of sight, ending with Ari's back to the nearest tree. He turned around and watched.

Claudio told Isela he hoped she would be discreet. She agreed. He told her he really was into her, grabbing her thigh. She told him she had to go; she was late, and escaped the car without kissing him. She quickly went inside the entry to the courtyard. Fermin announced her arrival. The neighbors applauded. Ari and Doris followed her inside. She stared in shock and said nothing. Orlando walked toward her and reminded her of how they met, when he kicked a soccer ball into the courtyard during a game. She remembered telling him she would return it for candy and he said he would swap the candy for a kiss. For a guy who had nothing but good looks he had great moves. He told her that he knew at that moment she would be the love of his life. He took out a jeweler's box and withdrew the solitaire. “Will you marry me?” he asked, slipping it on her finger.

Josefa was watching from her favorite perch. Isela may or may not have noticed. Either way she pulled her hand back before Orlando released the ring. He looked up in shock as she said “No.” Shocked looks from Doris and Maria Dolores. Josefa just took it all in.

Until she gloated by attempting to humiliate Orlando. She said “As I said, my daughter will never marry you.”

Shut up, Mother! Or you are going to be sorry for this!” She then apologized to Orlando and ran off. Josefa smirked. Fermin announced that the party was over, thanked the guests for coming, and everyone was to go home. Everyone began to disperse and Orlando followed Isela.

Back in Josefa's apartment he tried to apologize for whatever he had done wrong. He asked whether her mother was forcing her. She started to cry and said that no man wanted to marry a slut. He tried to embrace her but she pushed him away. She said he wasn't losing anything and pushed him harder. Ari helped him past the Mother-in-Law-From-Hell he had just dodged while Maria Dolores went inside to see Isela. She closed the door in Josefa's face and ignored her demand to be let in.

Maria Dolores explained to Isela that Josefa had set her up for this public proposal. She had suggested this to Orlando. They had been trying to reach her all day and she didn't answer her cell. Max and his mother couldn't reach his father. And neither of them were at the office.

Claudio tried sneaking into his home but Alma had never slept. She gave him the Marital Inquisition about not calling if he knew he would be working late. He made an excuse about forgetting his cell phone. She asked if Isela was with him. He admitted that she was. She told him about the surprise marriage proposal Orlando had planned. Claudio looked like a prize idiot.

Josefa gloated over this. She demanded for the nth time that Isela had to destroy Claudio Bustamante before she would be allowed to live her life. Isela knew that Josefa had set Orlando up for this humiliation. Josefa didn't deny it; she reveled in it. This was her payback for Orlando trying to get Isela to elope with him.

The following morning Julian told Fermin over breakfast that he felt bad for Orlando. How could he marry Isela without knowing the truth? But Fermin had no idea what he was talking about. Honoria wasn't talking.

At the Duval office Danny-Boy showed up in a suit and white shirt. He sat in Ivana's seat at the conference table and dismissed the secretary. He then introduced himself and announced that effective immediately he was assuming the presidency of the company. Until his wife recovered. Nobody looked pleased.

Ivana lay in her bed when Susanna arrived with flowers. Ivana wasn't happy to see her, saying this was a nightmare. Susanna told her she and Gerry were suspicious about how she had been removed from the hospital and she had been told nothing. Ivana defended Danny-Boy and his Mama Bear, saying that they were now her family. She asked why she married Danny-Boy. Before Ivana could answer Susanna's cell rang. Gerry called to tell her about Danny-Boy's big move. She said he should talk to Ivana about it and handed the phone to her before he could tell Susanna he was trying to fix the situation. Ivana did seem to know and she told Gerry to help Danny-Boy.

Maria Dolores and Doris talked about Ari's suspicions about Isela and Claudio. There had to be something fishy about a boss driving an assistant home at that late hour. Max arrived to talk to Maria Dolores, who told him she had put Danny-Boy off the day before. Doris excused herself and left them alone. Max wanted to find out what Danny-Boy had told Maria Dolores. She said it was that Ivana was in a bad way and attempted suicide. Max exploded that lie by explaining that the two had been married that afternoon.

Ivana exploded at Susanna for saying she had lost the baby. She flung the bottle of water, drenching the bedspread rather than the busybody aunt. Ursula and her butler arrived with a breakfast tray. With a reptilian smile she promised to help Ivana bathe after breakfast. Ivana turned down her offer. She asked instead to have her clothes prepared so she could return home as soon as possible. Ursula looked like she would comply, especially because she knew the probably consequences.

Max explained his concern to Maria Dolores. That Danny-Boy would try to take advantage of Ivana's weakness to get her to marry him. But this hadn't happened. At least not yet. He wanted to talk to her [MD] before Danny-Boy told her any more lies. Maria Dolores listened. She finally told Max she no longer trusted Danny-Boy. Max embraced her. She didn't try to stop him.

Ivana could not wait to get home to recuperate. She wanted to start her married life with Danny-Boy who was starting his corporate life in her place. Mama Bear may as well have been eating honey by the cupful. Susanna looked like she had just drunk a bottle of vinegar.

The bare-chested Orlando answered a knock at the door and let Doris in. Before she could start talking Isela came in. She didn't like seeing him shirtless in the presence of another woman. Doris apologized and left. Isela apologized to Orlando for his public humiliation. He hoped it meant they could mend the wound in their relationship but she gave him no hope. She asked him to return the money he was holding for her. He asked her to think about it all. She said she would and left.

Leo told his parents over breakfast that he wanted to go back to school the next day and back to working for Orlando. Claudio tried to remind him the doctor said he needed to be careful. As for work, he was about to make him an offer he couldn't refuse.

At the tailor shop Doris and Esperanza talked about Maria Dolores' bad luck with men. Especially Danny-Boy. Except that Max had said he loved her. Maria Dolores explained to her them that she needed time to believe in love again. Not all women react the same way and this was hers. Smart lady.

Claudio tried to tell Max that he couldn't babysit two grown women. He answered that he didn't think Ivana was in any condition to make decisions and that Danny-Boy still kept trying to take advantage of Maria Dolores. Claudio understood and said this was why he wasn't pushing him to marry Maleny.

Maria Dolores wasn't ready for anything else while Honoria followed Fermin. They tried to talk about Julian just as Josefa arrived. As usual, she was gloating about a juicy gossip item when Fermin told her that she was about to be exposed. That was going to wreck her plans to sell Isela to the highest bidder.

Isela was handed a liquor bottle that had Maleny had delivered to the office the day before. She was reminded that she was out with Claudio as well. She thought about the last moment in the foyer of the Bustamante mansion the afternoon before and that Maleny had been there. She cringed inside. She called Alma to talk to her about this. She suggested that they have coffee together. Alma didn't sound like she was looking forward to this, but she agreed. Isela ended the call just as Julian returned. He asked why she was talking to her lover's wife.

Maria Dolores, Esperanza, and Doris were admiring their latest work. They said they'd have to sell a dress to pay some bills. Danny-Boy arrived just in time to spoil the party. Doris and Esperanza excused themselves and left. Maria Dolores greeted him warmly, even hugged him. And congratulated him on having married Ivana. They were finished. She let him know she was on to him and had no feeling left for him. She was also through being his patsy.

Julian came to Claudio's office to talk about a client. Claudio told him he would shortly have three assistants, including Leo. Isela watched and listened.

Danny-Boy still tried the suicide story on Maria Dolores, but she wasn't buying it. He said it was because of the hysterectomy and that she wouldn't be able to have babies. He went on that this is what Ivana had most wanted in the world.

Isela asked Claudio whether Alma suspected. He said something about Leo explaining about the proposal. Isela did her usual baby-doll fatale number saying she didn't think it right to hurt Orlando this way. She didn't want Leo to return to Orlando's shop. But she also didn't want Julian in the office with them.

Danny-Boy swore he was telling the truth. He said he was going to get rid of Ivana's lawsuit against her before she returned to the office. Maria Dolores didn't believe a word of it. She said he could go off and be happy with Ivana. She didn't need him.

Ivana went back to her own home. She told Ursula's doctor that she wanted her own to tend her. Ursula offered her butler's services, but Ivana dismissed them all. She started to cry when the door closed, but there was a knock. She said “Come in” and it was Gerry. She was glad to see him. She cried as she told him she could no longer have children.

Thanks UA! Glad to see that we were able to get one of your great recaps this week.

Josefa just needs to crawl into a hole and stay there. (I should probably just copy & paste that sentiment because no doubt I will feel that way after every episode). Glad Fermin put her in her place. And Isela needs some major therapy for having to share living quarters with that crazy. Still don't like her though, especially after she told Claudio that she doesn't want Julian in the office. Although I'm sure Max, Leo, & Andrian will be quick to nix that idea if anything comes to fruition. I wonder if Julian has some type of contract in writing with Claudio about renting the office space.

And as was mentioned before, Claudio & Isela are not very subtle in their affair. They are already so many mummers within rich street & the barrio. I wonder what's going to eventually break that secret wide open.

Had to laugh at the way Doris was checking out a shirtless Orlando. Don't blame the girl hehe. I'm really liking the way the actress is playing Doris. The last time I saw her was in Rebelde as Celina and I was less than impressed with her character. Here she's one of my favs.

Excellent recap Urban!

Poor Orlando, his heart got crushed here.

I also don't mind MD taking her time to correspond Max's feelings. This time seems to be helping her detox from Daniel and appreciate Max.

Ivana is only hurting herself with Daniel though, she needs to wake up and see she's only hurting herself.

Urban so glad your computer is working and you're turning out your usual outstanding recaps.
To me, this probably was one of the most boring episodes to date.
I like the actress who is playing Ivana, she has a big bomb up her sleeve which she is ready to let it explode.
I thought Ivana wasn't suppose to know she had a total hysterectomy but then Dan told MD which was stupid if it's suppose to be hush-hush. Anyway I guess Ivana find out from the doctors .

Once upon a time on a US soap there was a storyline about a wealthy controlling father who didn't want his diabetic daughter to know she had early-stage retinopathy. He convinced her ophthalmologist to tell only him about it. The oph didn't exactly look comfortable with this.

The father then convinced his daughter she was going blind so she would break up with her boyfriend (a handsome young doctor who didn't come from money) because her eventual blindness wouldn't be fair to him. The doctor eventually found out in some other way and just in time. I don't remember how the father managed not to be cut off by his daughter.

I'm sure if the internet had existed there would have been a page of rants about this.

Back to our story: Orlando deserves much better. I hope Doris gets him.

Excellent recap, Urban! Glad to have you back this week.

Loved that hug Gerry (now we know his name is Gerardo because Dan called him that in the meeting) gave Ivana at the end, and that he told her she's hurting herself. So true.

Ivana is sneaky, and I'm glad she knows about her hysterectomy but is playing along like she doesn't. I'm fine if she wants to expend her energy getting back at Ursula and Dan. But I'm betting her plans still include MD. *sigh*

jlk- Not only did Isela get on my bad side because she's now trying to kick Julian out of his new office spaces, but because she's making Orlando think it's HIS fault why she turned down his proposal. Because he (saw the truth and) suspected she was cheating on him for a few seconds. Break his heart, fine. But don't make him think it's his fault.

I wonder what Isela plans to tell Alma to throw off suspicion? The two of them should have taken time out of their all day nookie session to come up with an alibi. They're really bad at this cheating stuff when everybody already suspects. I do like that not much stays secret in this tn for long.

Thank you UA, enjoyed your retelling.

Early I had sympathy for Islea but she is doing this for herself now. If she wants another man fine, if she can justify the deceit of Alma as someone she barely knows, ok, but to rip Orlando apart, a guy she has known, said she loved and has always supported her, unforgivable. She's one of the bad guys.

Thanks Urban! Loved the pic. Hoping to watch the episode in the near future and savoring this recap.

Thank you UA, I'm glad to see you back in action.

I don't like Isela making Orlando think that the breakup is because he didn't believe her either, but I hope he sees the truth when he finds out that Isela is screwing Claudio. Then he will have righteous anger at her.

Dan just keeps trying with his lies to MD, doesn't he? I did laugh at seeing him in the work meeting though. I can't wait to see how he screws up the company.

We never did find out what Claudio said to Alma to cover his story. They just seemed to drop it.

Based on past behavior, I don't see how Claudio is going to get Leo out of the shop and into the office. Leo seems to stand firm on what he wants to do.

I'm thinking that Isela will tell Alma that they stayed together late talking about his marriage and Isela gave him advice on how to make their marriage better.

But stayed together, WHERE? Everyone, including Alma, knows neither of them made it to the office.

Cathyx- I think Alma just let the conversation drop and didn't push it. Claudio said he had a flat tire which delayed him, and also that he stayed late in the office. Alma did not let on that she knew perfectly well that he didn't go to the office. I think she has her suspicions, but she's going to keep quiet (and stew) for now.

Thank you Urban. Isela sure broke Orlando's heart back there. I suppose tolerating Isela in "Bitch" mode will need time to get used to. Finally Alma and Julian got their eyes open about Isela and Claudio. People are not as silly as the deceivers want them to believe.

And I am a bit confused on how Ivana learned about her missing uterus, who told her? Was it Ursula or her doctor?

What is up with Gerry and Ivana now, will they get together now on the plan for vengeance? When Gerry came in the room I expected a long kiss instead.

I was so glad that Dan and Josefa got put in place by MD and Vermin respectively. These two vampires suck a lot of energy from their victims!

I am also wondering where you get these black, noir like images. They are very random but they fit so well!

Didn't Claudio also admit to being with Isela to Alma?

Alma is going to be another Ivana/Maria Dolores, choosing to keep the wool pulled over her eyes.

I don't mean being "with" Isela as in "Yeah I'm sleeping with Isela" but more of "Yes, I was with Isela today."

Claudio did admit he was in Isela's company but not what they were doing.

Count, I just google "film noir" and click on "images". Some of these come from famous films and others could have been book covers.

MD will suffer a great deal more before this is over.

Well, pain is her middle name.

Isela has done a very bad thing in making Orlando believe that it was his fault. She was very hypoocritcal acting all offended about Doris when she was bumping uglies all day with gross Claudio. The money that Orlando was saving for the wedding was it the same money He lent to Ari?
Oops, thank you so much for recap. I did not mean to be unappreciative but I was actually really happy and excited to read your recap and I had missed them when you had computer problems. So if I ever forget to thank you, pls know that its because I get ahead of myself sometimes and not because I meant any harm. I lurk because I don't want to get embarrassed if I forget to.

Thank you and everyone in advance for all the nice recaps.

UA--If this tn weren't so brightly lit, I could very well believe it's an excellent presentation of one of the most noir of film noirs. You do the genre proud in your recap. Thank you very much.

Victoria and CountX--I too wondered how Ivana found out she had a complete hysterectomy. It would have been important to us to find out who spilled the frijoles. Neither doctor has been very forthcoming to her. Susana would do it out of spite.

Vivi--Gerry came verrrry close to kissing Ivana right on the mouth. I almost wish he had. I got goosebumps when he walked in the door. It was quite emotional. Dang, I do like Ivana when she's all vulnerable like that. Oh, and thanks for reminding us that MD's middle name means pain! She seems to be holding up rather well, though. I think Isela is the one who will suffer the most pain in the long run. Let's see. (I know we're not supposed to get off topic onto the actresses, per se, but is anyone else bothered by Isela's front teeth? I don't know if it's so, but I think wardrobe is making her wear a set of false teeth to make her look more pouty.)

I'm dying to know if Dan-Dan is going to move in with Ivana and share her bed, or merely share her fortune!

Thanks, Urban. Fine recap.

I’m actually liking Isela a little bit more now. Rotten of her to let Orlando think their breakup is his fault, but at least she had the decency to separate from him. I was afraid she’d accept his ring for public appearance purpose only. She’s obsessed with Claudio now, but clearly not over Orlando the way her jealousy cropped up when he was shirtless with Doris.

I’m enjoying the game Maleny is playing with Alma, not that it’s right.

Can’t wait to see what Ivana has up her sleeve. Hope she does it soon, before all her employees, except Gerry, flee from Dan's "leadership."

Fermin was quite the gentlemen sending everybody home so as not to gawk at Orlando’s humiliation.

Anita, didn't Ivana say to Ursela that Dan wouldn't be living with her?

Anita- I still have no idea if Gerry is gay or not. But, damn, is he ever making me dearly hope that he isn't.

Those are Fabiola's/Isela's real bucked teeth. Doesn't seem to keep her from getting roles as the pretty girl/temptress in these tns, so more power to her. In Por Ella Soy Eva, she played the VERY young girlfriend/plaything of Eva's boss. In De Que Te Quiero, she was the bad girl sister of the protagonist, cheating on her good guy boyfriend just like she's doing here.

I thought Ursula said to IVANA that Dan wouldn't be living with her.

Oh, that might be, Anon207. I only remember being surprised at that comment, but maybe it was the other way around.

Yes, it's as Anon207 said, but we never got any explanation for what Ursula meant and why. Ivana sure as heck didn't look happy when Ursula told her her husband wouldn't be living with her. We'll see how this all shakes out.

Remember Fanny Jr.'s buck teeth in MCET, I thought they were a little unsightly but Isela's buck teeth, while trying to add to her sex appeal, just make me think nasty Claudio with a pre-brace young girl. --- Ikes and Yucks

Thanks Vivi re Isela's teeth. I can stop worrying about them now!

For appearances sake, unless dunderhead Dan can't see it, he should move in with Ivana. In a way it will be LESS stressful than having to interact with Mad Mamma Dearest everyday. He can live in one wing and Ivana in another and the media will never know it. That is, unless Susana drops a juicy tid bit on a reporter at the Mexico Daily News or Mexivision!

Anita, I don't think Dan wants to be held accountable for where he is or what he's doing. Maybe that's why he doesn't want to live with her.

Are they editing? Is that why we're surprised that Ivana knows she can't get pregnant? And does anyone remember who set up the wedding between her and Dan? I'm wondering if it was Ivana, and she's in for the long con. Playing Dan's own game against him. She's clever and vengeful enough to make this happen.

And I wonder if Isela is really into Claudio, or if she thinks she has to play along with Josefa in order to get her life back. Of course, the better thing would be to tell Orlando what's going on, marry his shirtless self, and get the heck away from her mother, but how much fun is that to watch? Except for the shirtless part. That's always acceptable.

Kelly

Well, it was last conversation last night, so Ivana may reveal to Gerry tonight how she found out and what are her plans.

I hope so. It's so exciting. I hope she really gets Dan and his family, and then realizes that MD isn't who has hurt her and leaves her alone.

I wish I could see Ivana going toe to toe with the reptiles, but don't think she can do it being outnumbered 3 to 1 (possibly 4 to 1 if Maleny joins the fun). Of course if she ropes in Gerry & possibly her aunt it would even out. Plus I think her fragile ego makes her easy to manipulate. There are so many lies, agendas, & secrets it's hard to keep everyone's motivation clear (IMO it's what makes this tn so intriguing!)

Kelly: I don't think Isela knows herself. The reality of putting the vengeance plan into action is causing all types of confusing emotions within.

jlk

CathyX--He's taken over as "head" of the company (temporarily, we hope, until his unmasking and downfall). That's what I meant by for appearances sake he should be near his wife, in consultation with her, living with her, and not still living with Mommie Demonia. I'm not saying he will or he won't. Your assessment is spot on.

Also, he probably knows Ivana will have him on a very short leash if he moves in with her and won't be able to keep sniffing around MD--which he shouldn't be doing, as "head" of the company.

Can't wait for Gerry to sign on to Team Long Con.

Urban, thank you for that thought provoking
Recap. Danny looks lost in that office. He is out of his element. Hes never worked a day In his miserable life.
I'm sorry for Ivana. Shes dived into a snake pit. And shes being swallowed whole. Maybe sweet sweet gerry can pull her out. She has to stop hateing on maria delores. Shes not the problem, its her mom n law from hell,
Her compulsive lying husband, and her bipolar sister n law. What a loveing family shes married Into. And don't forget sweet
Black hearted aunty suzanna. That revenge plan has cost her never having children.
O Ivana was it worth it. Im so glad MD and danny aren't never ever ever getting back together again.
But just think yall after all the liars and craps been washed away, theres a happy ending, before Thanksgiving I think.

Thanks again Urban;-)
