Yo No Creo En Los Hombres, Cap 14, Fri July 31, 2015- Puppy-Dog Eyes Dan is a Scumbag and Jacinto is Evil Sherlock Holmes or, If It Wasn’t For Bad Luck, Maria Delores Wouldn’t Have Any Luck

Recap by J desde NYC

Some scenes out of order, as per usual

Jacinto follows Daniel and takes pictures even as Ari watches him suspiciously and asks him whom he seeks.  Sayeth Jacinto: “What does it matter to you?”

Max offers to help Honoria get Julian out of his prison jam. Honoria is grateful and tells him Fermin is out of his coma and ready to testify (declarar).  Maria Delores shows up and even as Honoria gives her the stink-eye and tells her not to come visiting her son, MD insists on waiting in line to visit Julian, too.  Max looks on with a combination of admiration for MD and sadness, clearly believing the lies perpetrated against our beleaguered protagonista.

Clara continues to put Leo on ignore even as he chases her down with his best “Please, baby, please.”  “If you don’t believe (desconfiar) my sister, you won’t believe in me either,” Clara wisely says. Leo says it isn’t like that it’s just that Daniel is not a poor guy, he’s a rich guy and he and MD agreed to lie to MD’s parents about his origins.  Clara is open-mouthed impactada and clearly starting to desconfiar in her own sister too but she insists that her sister wouldn’t lie about something like that.  Leo tells her to think a bit deeper; the reason why Daniel didn’t go to MD’s father’s funeral was because he knew Leo would find him out. Say it with me class: If it wasn’t for bad luck, MD wouldn’t have any luck.

Isela reluctantly accepts money from Alma for Honoria and Leo.  The regular secretary, Ester, listens in behind a door. Honoria later reluctantly takes the money but says she’ll use it to pay Max for his legal assistance to Julian.

Honoria and MD see Julian, and while he hugs Hon as a good son should, he saves his happy face for MD and hugs her as if she were the last woman in the world.  Max looks on, observing the scene carefully. As they sit together, Julian says he’s so glad both Honoria and MD came to see him and it gives him strength to carry on.  MD says she has a present for him: a self-help/personal growth (superacion personal) book that her father loved to read. Julian gratefully accepts the book saying it shows MD believes he didn’t kill her father, Don Rudulfo, seeing as he was the father he never had.  MD kisses Julian’s hand at this and Max looks on somewhat jealous and unsure if he’s judged MD correctly.  (Side note: I love Gabriel Soto’s expressions in this chapter.  All of his emotions about MD are visible without him saying a word.  This is great as his character is a stodgy lawyer.)

Jacinto continues to play evil Sherlock Holmes as he goes back to the boutique that received the Vera-Duval exclusive design with a picture of Daniel asking if he’s the guy (tipo) that gave her the dress.  The clerk says yes and Jacinto disappears into the ether.

Back at the jail, Honoria tells Julian that Leo spoke to Julian’s client who will testify on his behalf.  Julian wants to come home quickly because he doesn’t want his mother to suffer economically.  Max assures him that he’ll get Julian home quickly; MD tells Julian to trust Max.  Visiting hour ends with Julian and MD hugging warmly and Julian saying he loves MD; he uses the ambiguous, close friends querer (te quiero mucho) and MD reciprocates saying she loves him (querer), too.  After Honoria and MD exit, Max hands Julian money as they shake hands and tells him, “Everything here is solved with money. You will need it.”

Outside the jail MD tells Max she needs to clear some issues up with him as Maleny wouldn’t let her see him when she went to his apartment. Max says he’d love to talk but he has to work on getting Julian out now or he could end up in  prison for a year while awaiting trial.  MD pleads with Max to help Julian because as sick as he is, he won’t be able to stand (sorportar) being in jail for that long.

At home MD tells Esperanza that she blames herself for what’s happening to Julian.  He was investigating who killed her Dad and that made him suspicious to police.  Worse of all, Julian is in love with her and she’s so sad that she won’t ever feel the same way (corresponder) about him because the only man she’ll ever love is Daniel.

Claudio stares at Isela like a perv as they discuss his agenda until Max shows up. Claudio and Max discuss Julian’s case and Max says he’s sure Julian is innocent.  He needs to get Julian out of their ASAP (cuanto antes) because Julian has muscular dystrophy and his condition will worsen (empeorar) in jail. Claudio tells Max the wheels of justice are slow with all the trial processes that have to take place.  Max tells Dad, that’s why I need your help.  If you help speed up the process, we can make sure the law is quickly applied.

Jacinto tries to see Ivana to tell her about Dan and MD but is firmly rebuffed by her people.  Ivana tells Gerry that just because Jacinto was right about MD being a thief doesn’t mean he wasn’t a sexual harasser. He’s forbidden to enter her businesses she tells Gerry and her team.

Daniel organizes and hosts a grand opening party at Esperanza’s new tailor shop.  Even the local priest is there sprinkling holy water over the shop’s entrance, which is tastefully decorated with a ribbon and balloons. As Daniel is about to cut the ribbon Clara shows up and side-eyes Daniel. Daniel, Clara, Esperanza and MD cut the ribbon together and MD and Daniel seal it with a kiss.

Daniel confesses to MD that his family was rich but now in ruins.  MD is upset that he lied to her and MD promises to return every penny he paid to rent the shop to him as she doesn’t want to be responsible for his family being in ruins.  MD runs off, Dan gives chase but loses MD who runs faster than Flash it seems. Turns out Jacinto is near too spying on them and is caught by Ari who tells Dan, Jacinto is the one who has been spying on Dan and Esperanza. Jacinto tells Dan that he came to negotiate with him since Ivana refused to see him.  He will show Ivana photos on his cell of Dan and MD. Dan and Jacinto fight for the phone; Dan breaks it but Jacinto just scoffs.  “I have copies…elementary, dear Watson,” Jacinto lays out his bold and artful blackmail options: I also can tell MD that you are getting married to Ivana, so you better give me what I want, which is my job back.  Dan says Ivana will never agree to let him back at his old post, but when he marries Ivana, he will make sure Jacinto comes back through the front door.  (I want to see how Dan pulls this off!)

MD runs all the way home and encounters the guy that Max stopped from harassing her at the bar.  She fends him off and then Max shows up. He wants to finish the conversation they began at the jail.  Dan finally shows up and is rebuffed by MD.  Max tells Dan to leave MD alone, and MD tells both of them to leave her in peace since she wants nothing to do with them.  Inside MD cries to Clara about the whole situation and Clara says she knew Dan was fooling her as she found out today from Leo that Dan was rich and supposedly MD already knew about it and was in league with Dan to fool her and Esperanza.  MD says no wonder Leo and Max said the things about me they did.  But Clara is more worried about what they are going to tell mom Esperanza who has been so hopeful and happy about her new shop.  “We’re going to tell her the truth about where we are.”  The sisters hug it out.

Maleny and Max fight it out over Max going to see MD.  Ivana tells Ursula that Dan told her MD and Max are going out.   Ursula goes home and asks Dan why he told Ivana Max and MD are dating.  Dan is curled up in the fetal position in the corner as he responds.  He can’t get rid of MD so easily as he confessed the family is in ruins but MD wants money, lots of money and Ursula has to help him.  Ursula comforts Dan and with an evil look says “Of course I’ll help you.” Say it with me class: If it wasn’t for bad luck, MD wouldn’t have any luck.

Maleny goes to Max’s to apologize and expects Max to apologize as well and he rips her a new one.  “I have nothing to apologize for since I did nothing wrong. If you would have allowed MD to visit me when she wanted to, I wouldn’t have to go to her house.  I will keep on seeing her since I’m representing Julian.  You shouldn’t disrespect MD by calling her a minimum wage dress maker since your tennis instructor is friends with her, too.”  Maleny says Ari is just her tennis instructor and she doesn’t have close relationships with people of that class and then storms out.

Esperanza goes to her shop and finds it’s already been broken into.

Claudio tells Alma he spoke with his connections to speed up the process to get Julian out of jail. He didn’t do anything illegal or shady as everything was done according to the law.  It’s just that Julian’s trial will come quickly and Max will have to present evidence that he’s innocent.

MD goes to Max’s office and tells him he should investigate her just as well as he investigates the people he defends to make sure allegations against her are true or not.  She didn’t know Dan was rich until last night.  Cara de impactada de Max.

Thank you for posting this Hellashelle.

Whoo! Thank you J desde NYC! Things are really heating up and you laid it all out beautifully for us to discuss! Great recap, nice and clear, with great vocab and humor :)

"Say it with me class: If it wasn’t for bad luck, MD wouldn’t have any luck. Yah! Great title :)
"Clara continues to put Leo on ignore even as he chases her down with his best “Please, baby, please.” --this one had me giggling.

I also really liked your observations about Gabriel Soto. ITA when they say it best when they say nothing at all

-Somehow Dan's newest claim -- telling his mom that MD wants lots of money -- pisses me off even more than his previous one of her being in on this scheme. I hate this guy!
-Also, Jacinto got to the bottom of this dress mess in like 1 episode. Are you kidding me?! This makes me even more annoyed at MD! Why is this sleaze more invested in this than you are?!
-I reeeeeally don't like Maleny, but in her argument with Max, I found myself hoping he was a much better prosecutor or defense attorney than he let on, because his argument was weak.
-Ursula and Dan's scene was one of the creepiest yet. Flavio Medina put on a great show as a disturbed, evil dude on AB too, but when he crawled to his mom and put his head on her lap while she was all "there, there" like a twisted Maleficent, I was like "whoa. This family is more and more twisted every day." This was the first time I've ever thought that Ursula seemed very relaxed and in control and she is 10x scarier for it.

Thanks again, J desde NYC!

Thank you J, great job.
The only bad luck that MD has is her knowing Dan. He's the sole reason she's had all this trouble.

I still can't figure out where this show is going, and that's a good thing. I'm figuring that MD will find out soon that Dan is engaged, but how this story continues is a huge question mark.

So who broke into the shop? Dan?

This is really good J desde NYC and thank you for it.

"Jacinto continues to play evil Sherlock Holmes"

Yep, Ursula is capable of anything. I've been in awe of Dans ability to manipulate mom but I was wrong, she knows his games yet eagerly desires to deliver on his whims.

I don't feel as bad for MD as I probably should. She is in a relationship with the love of her life and her mother approves.

Jacinto could be MD's savior, how ironic.

MD cannot muster anger for anyone but Max, not even Daniel whom has lied to her.

I actually wondered about the shop and I feel sure it's the next thing MD will start taking on guilt for. She ran out of there without locking up or cleaning up all that food, and Dan ran after her. I thought it was going to be infested by rats, but the rats just stole stuff and left. It might very well have been Dan, but it doesn't really matter either way. Hopefully, this time Max helps her out rather than Dan.

But if it was Dan, I constantly underestimate him. I thought when Esperanza said that her machine was old, but still worked, that he would "accidentally" drop it. I didn't think he'd rob the store he just furnished. But I guess that would be smart; he could return the furniture and get that money back while still making MD and family think he really did go through the trouble of buying it in the first place.

Great recap JdesdeNYC! I loved the structure and you are right, MD only has bad luck.

I think Jacinto is more obsessed with VD than Maria Dolores. She is less interested in figuring out how to help her family economically than in how the dress ended up in that other shop and she doesn't want to be back there while it seems Jacionto is obsessed with getting his old twisted power back, Jacinto also tends to think badly of everyone while MD believes Daniel wouldn't sell the dress.

I thought Daniel was smart to confess to Maria Dolores before he was discovered by Leo.

Tofie: I wonder if MD has unconciously related Max with the time when all the bad stuff started happening in her life, she first met him the day her father was murdered and maybe she has transfered all her feelings of frustration towards him without meaning to. Which would be ironic since Daniel is the real responsible for her distress.

Excellent. This episode was quite confusing after a while.

Muscular dystrophy. So now we know. None of the types of this are curable at this time and my guess is that Julian will not live to the end of the series.

Jacinto could just as easily been the vandal who trashed the new shop; he has a motive and he is a sadist. Although I will just as easily believe that Daniel the Troll did it. He will deserve a very serious Karmageddon by the time this is over.

Maleny is sick, sick, sick in ways beyond the way she interacts with Daniel.

JdesdeNYC- Thank you so much. I did not see this episode. MD's misfortunes continue, but I'm happy to hear that she and Max are finally going to clear some things up. Let's hope she tells him the whole story about how Dan is supposedly a chauffeur, and doesn't just leave it at Dan telling her his family is in financial ruin. He needs to hear enough so that he knows what a huge lie Dan has been spinning.

JdesdeNYC--Glad you got your recap posted. Really enjoyed reading it. Will be back tomorrow with more comments.

One little thing that springs to mind. Leo offered to help Honoria deal with one of Julian's customers on-line. (I guess Julian was a home-based accountant.) She didn't know how to work the computer and hated thinking Julian would lose customers. What we saw was Leo taking care of whatever it was the customer needed.

Hmmm. Isela is going to get computer lessons from Leo? In my mind, she can still go either way--prota or anta.

Good recap J desde NYC, Thank you much, this is very imformative. There is so much confusion with all these lies floating around about MD, max, julian. MAKE IT STOP!!!!
If it weren't for bad luke, MD wouldn't have no luke at all. Poor girl, the train reck that is
MARIA DELORIS!!! :~{
Don't look like julains haveing any good luke
Either. All of these people are just sad. I hppe he don't get beaten again, I can't take it. He can't defend himself, he can't even stand without holding on to something. He should not be in jail, he needs a miracle Max!!!

Max could be the one that clears everything for MD, if only he would tell her about Daniels relationship with Ivana. By confronting Max, MD is justify her relationship with liar Daniel. Not betting on that though. Either she will bitch Max out and walk off in a huff or Max just pulls a whatever, let her find out herself, or Max may tell her and she will not believe him. Daniel is the love of MD's life and she will defend that.

Great title for this one. Jacinto could be Dan's baby daddy all things considered with this scummy bunch. Goosebump material!

I too hope that MD sticks it out to have a full conversations about all of the confusion. I want her to tell Max enough to clear up misconceptions, but I also want her to listen long enough to hear the truth about Daniel.

jardinera654 - oh, double ew! ew to the nth degree!

If MD's search for the truth of the wayward dress any indication she won't hang around long enough for Max to disclose anything. She is way too invested in her relationship with Daniel. It will become increasing difficult for her to stamp out all the fires he creates though she is trying. I wonder how she will spin the new disclosure to her mother. I fear, no matter whom ransacked the shop and stripped it bare, ITA Hellashelle, Daniel will come to the rescue and all be forgotten. I laughed when MD told Daniel she would pay him back every penny. Yeah right, with what?

Max ain't no sharp scissor either when it comes to Maleny but I don't see him as far up her butt and could ask her to give back the key to his apartment any day.

The person that will go off when they realize Daniel has a girl on the side is Ivana, and not on Daniel but MD.

Tofie - I agree, Ivana will def go BSC on MD's butt. She thinks Daniel's the first man who ever loved her in spite of her weight. She lost her virginity to him and he proposed -- she's going to think he hung the moon unless proven otherwise. I have a suspicion that since Ari loves bigger women (and money), he'll make his way into her life at some point. He's scum now, but he would prob do her self-esteem a lot of good so she can stop obsessing about her weight and thinking that no one will ever love her because of it (Ivana, sweetie, it's not a big thing. Heck, you're not that big a thing -- there are bigger.) She needs to hang out with my girl Doris and get a shot of diva in her! (diva, not to be confused with the Patio's own Diva. But she could use a shot of that too!)

Max blames himself whenever Maleny acts nutty or disinterested. He's been clear that he thinks any petulance on her part comes from him spending so much time at work, so I'm not sure he would ever snap out of it if he wasn't destined to fall for MD.

Hellashelle- Ivana really does seem like the ideal woman for Ari who loves both money and curvy women. But I hope for someone who truly loves her, just for her. Are we sure Gerry is gay? I get a artsy designer vibe from him, but not necessarily a gay vibe. He truly loves her. Ivana has a lot of growing up to do though. Not only does she need to work on her self esteem, but also her self control when it comes to her relationships with people and employees. She can't keep flying off the handle at every bit of bad news, but needs to learn how to listen, gather facts, and then make sound judgements.

Vivi, I'm not sure Gerry is gay either and I have lifetime friends that are. Please not Ari, he's an opportunist. Gerry does care deeply for Ivana and he's her rock and why Daniel has attached the guy. I'm loving the complexity of Ivana as a character.

I was surprised when someone mentioned that Gerry was gay too. If we could find out which scene that was mentioned in, we could put that baby to rest.

Thanks, J desde NYC. I missed Friday's episode, but now I feel like I saw it.

Hey guys,

I agree, Gerry would be perfect for Ivana. He loves her and when he put his head against hers last week, I almost swooned. Maybe I'm wrong and he didn't say he was gay (I did fall asleep a lot in those first couple episodes). Let me go back and see if I can find the scene.

Hellashelle--
The primary reason we think Gerry is gay is that that is the one role normally assigned to a gay character. Need a creative designer? Make him gay. Shows we are diverse around here. Thanks for stereotyping, casting director. I apologize for myself, because I assumed he was gay the first time he came on the screen. Damn, casting director for making me think that way. In this case his acting is not flamboyant, as they made him in TdA (and its predecessor, El Privilegio de Amar).

Oh but I loved the fashion designer's gay character in EPdA --great Novela.
J desde NYC -- What a fantastically written recap. As stated by another above, keeping all the lies straight is almost impossible.
Poor MD she is still stupid, doesn't listen to those who want to tell her the truth, only listens to Dan who lies through his nose directly from his brain, and can't put 2 + 2 together. I can't believe she still hasn't figured out that it was Dan who stole the dress.

Ok, I went back and found it and I'm happy to say that I think I misunderstood a line and ran with it under the assumption that TNs like gay fashion designers. It's in cap 2; Ivana and Gerry are talking about Daniel making a play for Ivana and her thinking it's a scam. Gerry's looking very sad and Ivana's talking about wanting to get married and have children. She calls him her best friend and then I thought he said "Si fuera otro hombre..." which I translated as "If I were another man..." and somehow took all of this to mean he would date her if he wasn't gay. In reality, he did say "Si fuera otro hombre..." but that can also be translated as "If he were another man": he was talking about Daniel and, I think, suggesting that if he were another man, she could take his asking her out at face value, but because it's Daniel, his invitations can't be trusted.

Sooooo...maybe he's not gay at all?

If not: YES!!!! Him and Ivana all the way!!!

hellashelle- I think the interpretation that he was talking about Daniel when he said that line is the correct one. He never trusted Dan from day one. At this point I don't think Gerry's sexuality has been addressed at all, so we don't know one way or the other. My very first gut feeling when I watched the first scenes with Ivana and Gerry was that he's in love with her. I have no concrete evidence to point to. Just something about his expression when Ivana first started speaking about her feelings for Dan-- distaste for the object of her affection, but also some sadness it seemed. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Yeah, Vivi, I feel pretty dumb misconstruing his comment that way because I was assuming the TN was dishing out more of the same. My bad, y'all.

I'm not sure about Gerry being gay, doesn't matter to me one way or another, but I believe he has true affection for Ivana, is worried about her wellbeing, decision making, etc. They've know and worked together for so long, it could just be a real friendship.
I had many such male friends when working.

I thought the same as Vivi, that he's totally in love with her, but he thinks he's too lowly of an employee to think she would ever feel the same way about him, so he just tries to be her friend.
