Weekend Discussion: Karmageddon Comes to Santa Lucia (La Sombra del Pasado)

We're coming close to the end and the crap is flying so here is the all-important discussion of the Karmageddons awaiting the evil ones in our story. As usual we will ask the following two questions:

What do you think the writers will do to them?
What do you think they really deserve?

Contrary to my usual practice I am posting my thoughts in this article because of my current computer issues.

Ladies first, so we'll start with our toxic females:

Prudencia Rivero de Zapata / Cynthia Klitbo

Guilty of unspeakable snobbery, endless enabling of her toxic daughter, cruelty toward an adopted son, defamation of character, assault, theft, adultery, complicity in pregnancy scam, inciting mob violence, filing false assault charges, and the persistent delusion that she has any class.

I don't know whether Humberto has the legal right to have her committed, but if so he should have done it a long time ago. She would then not have had the chance to incite the mob violence that could have led to arson that could have taken the entire area out. Since this is a crime she can go to prison for, I think the writers will do that to her. I would take that a step further and have Humberto's lawyer serve her with divorce papers at the courthouse when she's being put in the holding cell.

Valeria Zapata Rivero / Thelma Madrigal

Guilty of hypocrisy, false claims of having been compromised by Cristobal, pregnancy entrapment, creating a public scandal, attempted murder, gross entitlement, and grossing us out in her attempts at seduction (of anybody).

The attempted murder of Aldonza will need to be addressed legally. Valeria is stupid enough to brag about it, so the writers would be monumentally stupid to not have her pay for this by finding out whether or not Orange Is The New Black. I think that not only should she and her mother go to prison they should be assigned the most menial work in the cell block so the other prisoners and the guards have more than a few laughs at their expense.

Maria de los Angeles Lagos / Fernanda López

Entrapment (Emanuel), defamation of character, theft (from Irma's purse), attempted framing of an innocent girl for theft, and massive immaturity.

Unless she does something that actually breaks the law between the publication of this discussion and the end, she won't face any jail time. I don't think the writers will do anything to her unless it's what I recommend, which is that she end up playing second fiddle to Valeria's baby, whom Irma and Uriel will get custody of.

Adelina Lozada / Lisset

Guilty of enabling her sister, keeping secrets from Aldonza despite advice to the contrary, rejection of nephew, major cowardice about everything, and a very bad fashion sense (for herself).

Adelina isn't toxic like the others because she hasn't killed anyone or stolen anything. She is cowardly and has failed to take the responsibility to tell Aldonza many important truths. She could feel that she is “protecting” Aldonza from further pain but I think this is outweighed by her fear of ultimate rejection.

I'm not sure what I'd want to see happen to her although becoming a nun might not be a bad idea.

And the Queen Bee of our villanas (not necessarily because of her deeds):

Candela Rivero de Mendoza / Alejandra Barros

Guilty of unspeakable snobbery, countless attempts at controlling her adult son, defamation of character, complicity in kidnapping, lusting after a priest, emotional torture of son and daughter-in-law, accessory after the fact (attempted murder), and the persistent delusion that she is always right.

I think the writers will have her go mad and be in need of the giggle jacket and a padded room. She has been desperately holding on to her ability to maintain a “proper” face to the world for 20+ years that something has got to give. I think this appropriate, so no different answer from me but with the addition that Cristobal will finally turn his back on her for good.

And now for the men:

Humberto Zapata / Luis Xavier

Guilty of falsifying legal documents (several birth and death certificates), enterprise corruption (purchase of El Santuario with Severiano's dinero), medical neglect (deliberately botching delivery of Emanuel), complicity in kidnapping of Emanuel, emotional neglect of Emanuel, and losing his cojones when he needed them most.

This is a tough one. He has definitely broken the law although he has broken it under duress. Santa Lucia will probably not forgive him for this no matter how much it hated Roberta because it loved Padre Sixto. The writers might have him do some time, but not much once the law knows all of Severiano's many crimes. If it were up to me, I would say that 20+ years of marriage to Prudencia and the sort of person Valeria turned out to be is more than adequate punishment. He should be censured by the medical board and his license suspended for whatever period of time they deem appropriate, followed by him joining the Peace Corps to get the hell out of Santa Lucia. Let him atone for his sins among the poor of another country for a few years before returning to bond with his grandchild.

Adriano / Miguel Angel Monfort

Guilty of murder for hire, emotional abuse (little Ray), and very poor taste in women.

He's been in a coma for some time, and I'm going to guess that the writers will forget about this. However, I think he should stay in the coma indefinitely. That is a kind of Purgatory.

Lic. Nava / Actor's Name Unknown; Mugshot Unavailable

He has been Sev's lapdog from the get-go, never capable of talking him out of any nasty thing he wanted to do, even forging documents regarding the ownership of Solitario.

For that alone he should be disbarred. I don't think the writers will do any more to him than that. Here's hoping he will need to do some menial work in order to make a living.

And finally, let's all get our pitchforks ready for...

Severiano Mendoza (aka Satan) / Alexis Ayala

Guilty of multiple counts of murder (both self-done and for hire), multiple counts of attempted murder, rape, sexual assault, emotional torture of illegitimate son, accessory after the fact to murder, arson, blackmail, kidnapping (infant Emanuel), attempted framing of an innocent man for a non-existent crime, and confessional abuse.

His rap sheet more than justifies a death sentence from the writers. There is no legal punishment adequate for what he's guilty of. We have mostly said that the only possibility for Cristobal and Aldonza to have a FPS is for him to die. The only question for me then is how that should happen.

Prison, followed by suicide after significant humiliation sounds good so far. Perhaps he should die at the hands of some other character who is defending Aldonza; if that is the case it should not be Cristobal or even Emanuel because neither of them deserves to have to live with that memory. An accident is a likely way the writers will do it so that nobody has to take any blame, but I think that is a cop-out. Severiano deserves to see the face of vengeance before he meets the Dark Master.

Oooo! Delicious, Urban! Going to tuck into this and give it some thought. Thank you so much! This is my first Karmaggedon!

Enjoy. If we were all in the same room we could take bets; winner buys the champagne for the Finale Fiesta....

I'll be brief. I'm more interested in what others have to say plus, ranting is not conducive to a good night's sleep. First the "Ladies."

Pru. After tonight (because I think she's behind the attack on Silvia) I want her imprisoned for several decades and to become the target of the alpha female prison bully. She should suffer humiliation and pain daily.

Valeria. I want her exposed and shunned by all her lies. I want Irma and Uriel to raise her baby and have her rights terminated. She'll probably give the child to them anyway. She should go to a different and more cruel prison (attempted murder) and suffer the non-ending vicious antics of her fellow cell mates.

Mari. She should also be exposed as a bald-faced liar who callously lied to and emotionally abused her parents in addition to the slander against Eman. She should certainly be fired and yes, suffer "playing second fiddle" to her nephew. She remains alone and lonely as no man in SL wants to come within 10 yards of her lying self. She wears a pony tail than it is little more than a gray wisp held by a gummy rubber band and she has a hunch back.

Adelina. Her presence is tolerated by Aldonza with tight, soulless smiles and lukewarm civility. She dries up from the inside out and passes her days a wizened old maid. She sucks so much air out of ES, canaries don't thrive there for more than a week. She spends her days gazing at Raimundo's picture.

Candela. Cris marrieds Aldonza, they move to ES. They never visit but he Skypes her once a year. The inability to screech at and micro-manage Cris's life and his living happily with Aldonza drives her insane. Cris commits her to the local "crazy house."

Now the "Men."

Javier. Sev's new flunky. Unless he's got another job we haven't seen yet, he'll probably ooze back into the woodwork.

Humberto. This IS tough. I don't know what should become of him! Sev will probably pay somebody to knock him off. The crimes you detailed, Urban, are real but Hum is about the most human bad guy I've ever seen. I'll have to pass.

Adriano. He is probably stuck in a timeless and hellish near death experience while he is in coma. That is, according to descriptions, quite a frightful thing. Let him have a few minutes of my favorite altered state of consciousness, terminal lucidity, tell all on Sev and then go on to meet his Maker for final judgement.

Nava. I agree. IF they do anything to him it will probably only be disbarrment. He may break camp and get the hell out of Dodge before that.

Sev. All his crimes exposed, imprisonment in the crudest of cells with every type of low life criminal known to man (birds of a feather). He will be mocked and bullied for not being "whole" -- no sensitivity for those differently abled in prison -- and he suffers crushing, excruciating phantom limb pain EVERY night at the time the original injury occured twenty years ago. He also suffers nightmares EVERY night where he has emntally and emotionally become each of his victims and feels the pain and terror of every evil thing he did to them with vivid, horrifying realism. He exists in this state many, many years. No one visits.

I want Solitario to take out Sev.

. .shunned by all her lies. . .shunned for all her lies. I'm sure I had something more scathing to say but I think I'm a little tired and kinda bummed for what happened at the end of tonight's episode.

:/

Eli- THAT would be sweet! A nice kick to the head from Solitario, and then being stomped to death by all the other horses. Tee hee...

Eli, that's interesting. However, I don't want to see anyone demand Solitario's execution for that. And you know someone would.

Eli, that would be perfect. How about Solitario tramples him, doing the horsey stomp on his head and groin, severely injuring him, but he still goes to prison and suffers all that stuff as I described. How's that?

Vivi, we were writing at the same time. No, no horsies should be hurt for this justified stampeding on Sev's arse. I can tell that Karmageddon is going to bring out the beast in many sweet and gentle souls who visit this blog!

;)

All 3 of us agree, Eli: me Vivi and Urban!

OK. I don't want the sweet horsies to get in trouble for killing Sever. Although, I don't think anyone would really care or pursue putting them down if they did.

Nah, no one would put Solitario down if it's an accident, how many people a year perish in accidents involving horses? Heck, they would probably reward Solitario for a job well done.

I kinda feel bad for Candela, her life would have been much better if she had just gotten a freaking divorce, she was beautiful and RICH, surely she could have been happy with her money/son, in fact if she had divorced Sev she could have kept Cris in town instead of sending him to Spain.

This is a good tn. The good people I like, the bad people I don't.
So whatever the writers wish to do to the other bad people is ok with me.
BUT SEV:
THE MAN HAS A BLACK SOUL, HOW THAT HAPPENED
DOSEN'T REALLY MATTER, HE'S OWNED UP
TO IT, HE'S SATISFIED WITH IT, (SICK BASTARD), ALL THE HELL HE HAS IMPARTED ON THE PEOPLE AROUND HIM HAS BEEN INDENTED ON HIS SOUL. WHEN
HIS TIME COMES, ALL THAT ABUSE, PAIN, HUMILIATION, THE PHYSICAL, MENTAL, PYSCHOLOGICAL CRAP THAT HE VOMITED OUT ON THEM, WILL COME BACK TO HIM, WHEN HE IS HANGING FROM A CLIFF WHERE HE WAS CHASED TO BY AN ENEMY THAT HE HAD LONG FORGOTTEN, HE'LL BE HANGING FROM SAID CLIFF WITH THE ONE
ARM HE HAS LEFT. AND WHILE HANGING ALL WILL BE THRUST UPON HIM. ALL THE HURT, AND PAIN PHANTUM AND REAL, THE MEMORIES, WORDS THAT WERE SPOKEN BY
HIM THAT WERE MET TO STING THE PRESON HE SPOKE THEM TO, THE PAIN AND
ANGUISH ON THEIR FACES, THE CRYING OF THE BABY HE REJECTED, AND WHEN HE CAN'T HOLD ON ANY LONGER, THAT ARM COMES OUT OF THE SOCKET, AND HE FALLS TO HIS LONG AWAITED HELLISH DEATH.
And everybody lives HAPPILY EVER AFTER.
:-):-):-):-):-):-):-):-):-):-):-):-):-):-):-):-):-):-):-)

I want Severiano to lose the other arm so he got no hands, placed in solitary confinement with one window. That window looks out and across the street, everyday, Sports Illustrated shoots its swimsuit issue.

Nina!, girl, I knew it was you! I feel your strong, all caps feelings about Sev. Well done! That would all serve him right!

Tofie Ouch! Yah. Also well done but expand a little more, please: Sports Illustrated shoots its swimsuit issue. o_O.

Thanks, Urban! I don't know how you keep up with all these misdeeds.

Uh, bathing beauties, scantly clad, randy Severiano with no hands, every friggin day.

I vote for either the waterfall or Solitario's hooves as Sev's transportation to the firey furnace below. Adios, you amoral, nasty, conceited A$$hat.

Sev ending up losing the other arm would be interesting, especially if he also ended up in prison. Phantom pain on both sides would be a just reward along with an inability to whack off at the thought of a woman.

However, I don't think there are any female guards in men's prisons in Mexico.

BTW, my reading on the subject said that phantom pain would have started almost right away after the recovery from the amputation. It's about the nerves adjusting to the new situation, or something like that.

Thanks, Tofie. . .It was early, didn't realize they'd be shooting the episode across from the hoosegow. ;)

In Sev's case, a unique, delayed onset of phantom pain is juuuuust fine, just fine and dandy!

Lila

*the issue, not the episode!

Great ideas, but I think there needs to be a tad more to Cande's anvil than simply going mad. Doing so but in the comfort of her home or being cared for by Dom forever, which is the sort of thing we've seen done in the past, seems to me to be almost a pass. For what she encouraged be done to an innocent child alone, and then supporting the degradation of that young man, she deserves to know how it feels to lose everything. She has turned blind eyes to events and happenings I think we can arguably say she knows the details of, heck, Val admitted she tried to shoot Allie and Cande did nothing. Her hatreds, all the while espousing a religious and faithful front is the height of hypocrisy. Maybe she goes mad, but there has to be more to it...loss of family, maybe jail for her aiding and abetting, who knows. But something more.

Can't support my beautiful Solitario taking out Sev directly, though it would be deserved. now maybe kicking closed a gate and a latern trapping him in a stall as our beauty struts off, that might be a plan. Sev seems to have been around fires in the past, let him go out in one.

Daisynjay

How about a facility for the criminally insane? Candela could do time for the kidnapping of Emanuel and the failure to report the attempted murder of Aldonza. That puts her out of Dominga's care. Dominga will ultimately have Cris' children to help care for and I'm sure once she knows all the details that so far only Sev and Hum know she will wash her hands of our Medusa.

Daisy, that's why I said above that she go to the local "crazy house", being an institution for the criminally insane would fit that bill. Tiny cell, no one knows or cares who she is/was, rough, scratchy jumper, cold frijoles and tortillas, sharing meals with the kind of "low lifes" she despised all her life. Aw yeah. . .sounds like just the ticket!

That good do it. I know we get those glimmers by the writers of maybe we need to feel bad for her married to Sev, but nope, not feeling the pity.

Gees, this is the time of a show we all get to have our most vindictive side come out don't we?? Is it terrible to say it's fun?

Diasynjay

No, Daisy! It IS fun! These people have made our stomachs churn, our teeth clench and grit together, we've screamed at the tv and scared the cats, made our families think we were crazy as we yelled and shouted at the tv and how many conversations did we rush to conclusion or given a wrong answer because we weren't paying attention. . .the list goes on. We deserve this time for stress relief!! Let it rip! Thanks, Urban!

I'm never very good at these...either I lack imagination or a thirst for vengeance :D The writers rarely come up with anything that seems fitting enough for the damage inflicted. Mostly I just want all the baddies to fail at their ultimate goals and have to watch the good guys be happy, knowing there's nothing they can do anymore to prevent that. Legal consequences for their crimes would be nice. Death is necessary for Sev, for the safety of the general public, as I don't expect him to quit otherwise.

Thank you, Urban Anthropologist, for putting this together :D

Yes, thanks for putting this together, Urban. And it's a great place for therapeutic venting.

I'm pretty much with Diva. Stop the bad guys from doing any more harm. Let the good guys glory in love and happiness. Ideally, I would like for the baddies to realize how cruel they were and how deeply and painfully it affected others.... and be plunged into searing regret. But I don't need to see them physically suffer. JUST BE STOPPED. FOREVER.

There's only one man who can stop someone like Satanic Sev. That's the Reaper. That's the only relief anyone will know. He's never regretted anything he's ever done and he won't start now.

Can't disagree there UA. Sev seems thoroughly "unreeemable". I guess I'm hoping his finale will be like those described in near-death experiences...people have a review of their lives where they see...and FEEL...how others felt when they hurt them. That would be a fitting end for Sev in my opinion. Instruction before destruction.

The idea of him hanging over the waterfall on his one remaining arm sounds good to me. There is no return from that because I don't think anyone would risk pulling him up when he's more likely to find a way to take someone else with him. Death would be preferable to capture for him.

I foolishly posted my ideal ending to Sombra several weeks ago in a post, not realizing it was more appropriate to wait for the Karmaggedon posting. My bad and my apologies, Patio Peeps.

Pru - now that she's messed with Silvia, she's signed a giant anvil contract. When she visited Cande, she was shuffling through the streets drunkenly, but I think a few more examples of public drunkenness should further blacken whatever reputation she thinks she has. Then, I vote that Tomas takes to a public forum (bell tower, mass, etc.) to publicly shame this heffa. As she drunkenly protests, I think her drinking buddy (can't remember her name) should stand up to confirm Tomas's word and explain that she didn't speak out before because of Pru blackmailing her son's with cancer money.

Val - Well, Cris isn't marrying her, but I still wouldn't be against him inviting the town to their "new engagement" party...and sweetly telling all of SL that she's the kind fo woman to try to pass another man's son off as his own for money.

This is doubtful though. I would settle for Cande finding out from the ob/gyn that the kid is a month older than it should be. Turning that over in her mind, she runs into a sloshed Pru, who thinks Cande's already figured it out and so spills all the beans. Enraged, she goes to share with Sev...only to find hm in bed with Val. This would set her braids flying. For the first time not thinking about scandal, she would run to Cris, who would be in town for some reason, and scream the truth of the whole thing in the middle of town square with a begging, crying, snotting Val on her knees.

Cande - After this very public admission that her husband's a skeevy slime, I think Cris should come to her in gentleness...to tell her that however bad she might feel, Cris doesn't want her in his life. He doesn't want her at his wedding. He doesn't want her around his kids. And then he leaves. If the statute of limitations is still active for kidnapping, she should do time for it. Now, without her money, prestige, or even her farce of a marriage to keep her chin up, she'll finally realize what scum she is. But it's too late. No one will forgive her. Honestly I can't see her doing anything else after that but becoming a nun.

Adelina - same thing: nun. I don't see her as cruel or evil, but possibly the weakest most cowardly "good aunt" in TN history. I think that sadly, she passed the age of learning how to flirt or date and so she finds it easier to keep her crush on a dead man than humiliate herself with a live one. So yes, a nun.

Hellashelle - I like your proposed ending for Cande. It is perfect for her.

Sev in jail with no arms and lots if cellmates, if you know what I mean, is what I would like to see. But ... Sociopaths have no feelings nor emotions so he really works not suffer. Maybe he will get hit by a garbage truck.

So he really would not suffer. Thank you iPad .... Not.

I agree with Lila in that I hope Uriel and Irma raise Val's child. I see an extended family for the little tyke and much love and happiness.

Val and Pru deserve prison time. I suspect they will be penniless and continue to be unhappy with their wretched lives until they are over.

Cande should be shunned and live out her life alone, without comfort.

Sev will likely die as I don't believe Cris and Aldonza can ever be together with him still alive.

I think Humberto is living his own hell on earth. I can't quite forgive him for robbing Roberta of her child and what Eman has been through. But it's up to a higher authority to mete out his punishment (if there is one above and beyond his present torment).

Diana

The Karmageddons of Vile, Pru, and Sev need to be the severest for their offenses. The problem with all three of them is that the more they got away with the more entitled they became. They are all incapable of understanding the consequences of their actions.

Candela appears to be becoming aware of what for her would be the worst consequence: The loss of Cristobal. However, it's way too late for her to backpedal now.

Hum - I wouldn't mind if Hum got out of this doing a stint with the Mexican equivalent of Doctors Without Borders. Now that I know how much Sev hates Eman though, I can see Sev trying to shoot E and Hum stepping in front of Eman to take the bullet. I think dying on a noble note like that would make Hum happy. I don't hate him, but I don't think he'll escape, if only because he himself wants to get all of his accomplice misdeeds off of his chest. In a very forgiving world, he would get amnesia, forget most everything except some basic medical know how, go back to school to regain doctor level knowledge and then help raise his grandson.

Adriano - Either he dies right after testifying, or he testifies and goes to jail. Ooh! Maybe he turns out to be one of Sev's prison mates!

Nava - will likely scurry away. His type do tend to ram a bunch of papers into a briefcase and hop onto a plane, don't they? Otherwise, he just goes to jail too.

Severiano - I think I'd be annoyed if Sev just died. I mean, he has to, but that's almost an escape. Where's the suffering? No, I think he needs to lose another limb and then go to prison where his cellmates show him exactly why what he did made Aldonza so determined to take him down. In fact, I'm tempted to think he'll order Adriano's death and Adriano will hear about it and be one of the prisoners who helps orchestrate his rape.

Maybe Solitario won't kill him, but all those years ago when Rai attacked him, Sev claimed a horse kicked him and that's how/why he lost his arm. It would be a weird justice if that really does happen this time around. And I'm not very picky: arm, leg, either's fine.

After all that, I could see him still escaping, running back to El Santuario. At the top of the falls, he trips/kicks Aldonza, who's knocked out. Before he can kick her over the falls, the ghosts of victims past appear and scare the bejeezus out of him. Phanton Limb Pain hits and between the ghosts and the pain, he reels backwards, careening over the waterfall where he drowns.

Alternatively, he sneaks up on her in the house, kicks her down the stairs and then freaks out because he can't do anything else to her without hands. He starts kicking other stuff down, raging, and knocks over a candle/lantern. He trips over unconscious Aldonza's arm and knocks himself out. Cris comes swooping in and Sev regains consciousness just long enough to see Cris choose to save Aldonza over him (duh). He's burned alive, legs first.

The problem with Sev not dying is that he still would have the opportunity to escape, even if left without arms.

Which makes me wonder why he never had a prosthetic one in the first place.

While his death sounds like too easy a fate for his actions, it is the only thing that would give Aldonza any peace of mind. <any of us were dissatisfied with Bernarda's fate at the end of TdA, but her death was the only thing that could have saved her son from a lifetime of trying to get her to repent.

UA is right about Sev.. Him dying would be the only way for Aldonza to have peace of mind and move forward with Cris.

But whatever happens, my money is on Aldonza never getting rape victim therapy, which will be an absolute shame. Telerisa has such a good opportunity to make a positive PSA with this.

There are still too many insane myths about rape that some people don't want to expunge from people's minds. For this reason the trend to more male writers has not served the audience.

You guys are definitely right. Sev has to die. I just want him to suffer a little...ok, a lot beforehand.
