La Sombra del Pasado, Tue. 6/30 Capítulo 96: Get your slapping hands ready, Patio…

Note from HellaShelle: ¡Mil disculpas! I apologize for the late recap. Warnings: This episode was great and I’m not sure I did it justice (the world intervened hard today). See you all on the patio later.

Long: Oh me of too much faith…Aldonza predictably freaks about Valeria being in Cristobal’s room late at night. She barely lets him speak as she chews him out, then hangs up on him. Val smirks in the hallway.

Lola calls Pato specifically to get on his case about Mari. He explains they’ve been friends since before she and Mari fought, but all Lola wants to know is if they talked about her. No Lola, the world does not revolve around you. Silvia thinks it’s a good sign: Lola’s jealous.

Idiot 2 (Lola) joins Idiot 1 (Aldonza) in her room. Aldonza tells Lola she shouldn’t get mad at Pato because they’re not actually dating and it’s exactly what Mari wants. She asks if she really loves Pato the way she loves Eman. Lola doesn’t want to talk about Eman. They switch to Aldi, who’s pissed about that lagartija(=lizard aka Valeria). Don’t get Lola started on the ecogido (=hunched) dinosaur. It’s good that I’m eating popcorn for dinner because this is obviously a middle school sleepover and not two grown ass women seriously trying to figure out their relationship problems.

The next morning, Cande furiously cuts up Sev’s breakfast as she recounts her efforts with Dom and Mel. She went over their, trying to be nice, but nothing! She even told them that it was their last chance (which sounds very nice and welcoming and not at all like a threat. How could they turn that down?). Sev says you can’t expect more from ungrateful traitors. Cris tells them Dom and Mel could say the same. Cande, as usual, won’t be criticized. She tells Cris to talk to them, for their own good because LA is the best place of them. Sev says they can go to hell (oh, the irony). Cris will talk to them, but if they don’t want to come back, they should get fat parting checks. Sev loses his appetite at that and leaves.

Uriel tells Irma that the police caught and shot Adriano. He’s in bad shape, but when he gets out Uriel will make sure he rots in prison! Irma doesn’t want vengeance to become their life, but Uriel’s whole focus is on making Adriano’s life miserable, even in prison!

Nava reports back to Sev. Adriano got shot in the head and chest. The outlook is grim and even if he survives, the brain damage might affect speech, movement and memory. He wouldn’t be able to testify for months. Nava doesn’t recommend that Sev visit, at least for now.

Val apologizes for interrupting Cris’s phone call. Once he leaves, she explains what happened to Cande, who’s very pleased.

Aldonza asks Hum to buy El Santuario again. He denies it again. This convo is becoming a patter for them. Aldi then asks about Eman. Doc doesn’t know where he is and misses him a lot.

Cris texts Aldi that he needs to talk to her and loves her. She smiles.

Tomás calls Pru, but she has a headache, so she hangs up on him. He tells Lulu his girlfriend only wants him for sex and it’s bumming him out. She advises that she won’t take him seriously until he shows he’s got more to offer. She’s got some elaborate suggestions that we don’t get to hear.

Instead, more Al vs. Val. Yay. Al’s at the pathway to LA, but Val threatens to run her over. Blah, blah, “you’re dumb”, blah blah, “you’re pathetic”. Val leaves.

Eman thinks of Hum again. He calls him and Hum asks him to come home, to “batch it out”, as someone suggested yesterday. Hum doesn’t care if Eman did actually mess up, he considers him a son and wants to help. He misses him and Pru and Val are the worst. Well, Eman didn’t call for all that, but he’s glad he got to talk to Hum.

Aldonza, suddenly at the ribbon shop (did I miss the Cris convo?), invites Lola to go with her to DF. She wants to get her wedding dress and Cris is practically kidnapped in his own house.

Val visits Pru. Pru’s dramatically “dying” and it’s all Hum’s fault for leaving. Should Val call him? No! He’ll just make it worse. No one understands her, Val abandoned her, no one cares about her. Truth: Val thinks Pru should be focused on Val! Ugh! No wonder her dad dismissed her; she’s insupportable! Val stomps off. I wish the world’s tiniest violin had drowned out this scene.

Lola’s telling Irma about the SF trip/asking for time off. Mari, The Worst, steals money from her mom’s purse and gleefully bops out.

Aldonza calls Cris. She explains that Val tried to run her off and then she lost her nerve/desire to do it. Cris thinks the only way to stop Val and Cande is to get married asap. Cande, listening at the door, is silently aghast. (Why? THEY’RE ALREADY MARRIED!) Cris says they can get married this weekend if she wants. He can almost walk normally so as soon as they get married, he can move to the farm. (I, like Snickers, wants to know: Why wait? Also, I repeat: YOU’RE ALREADY MARRIED!) Aldi totally would, but she’s got all of these errands to run: apartment stuff, surprise stuff (read: Wedding dress). Cris isn’t happy about all that, but fine. They’ll meet at the church to set a date with PJ.

PJ meets Dom praying the church. He invites her and Mel to live with him (and also work, I think.)

Cande literally blocks the door with her body when Cris tries to leave. He can’t go, he’s not well. She demands to know where he’s going. No prob: To meet with PJ to set a date for his wedding. Over her dead body will he marry that prostitute! Cris looks at her like she’s gone bsc (yes, Cris, are you finally getting it?)

Aldi shares wedding news with Ren. She acknowledges that this is hard for him, but he needs her to be happy for him because he’s important to her. He admits it’s really hard, but he’d rather her be happy. She’d expect nothing less of him (pardon? Not sure you have the right to expect anything from him now, Aldi.)

Cande tells Val that Cris and Aldi plan to wed next week. Val tells her about Pru.
Cande’s out of schemes. Val looks a little panicked.

Ren says they should run with Eman’s suggestion to also have animals on the farm. Aldi just has two questions: who’s paying and who’s running it? (Obviously, she has no talent for actually handling an issue.) Ren got the bill, as per usual, and he suggests that Mel from the farm (Patio called it!). He offers his Mexico house for her run to DF, saying his dad would love to have some company. She accepts. As per usual.

PJ tells Adelina that he offered Dom and Mel housing. He feels bad that they stuck their necks out for him and got axed. Talk turns to the exhumation. Adelina starts begging for his help, but PJ --shades of Tofie-- has had enough! She needs to face up to the lies and deal with the fall out y punto, caramba!

Ren offers the Manager position to Melesio. He thinks it’s a great idea! She just needs to talk to Dom first. (Now there’s una pareja that knows how to be a couple!)

Cris and Aldi talk to PJ and Adelina about the wedding. Adelina’s going to plan the flowers and a little post-wedding get together afterwards. PJ offers Lulu’s help (que?). Cris is at their service. He wants everyone from there to San Miguel to know they’re getting married!

Sev and Nava are on the road. They’re planning something…Cande calls and tells Sev that Cris plans to marry next week.

Hum pensively gazes out the window, wondering where it all went wrong. Blanca, his assistant, lends a sympathetic ear. He says he’s been unhappy for years. And no matter how things have actually played out, he thinks of Eman as a son and misses him. Blanca feels his pain. And -innocently, I swear- his arm…

Sev and Nava are in a shanty area. A shady lady ushers them into her shack.

Pru offers Tomas money to help out with his troubles, but that’s not what he wants. He loves her and wishes they had gotten caught so they could finally go public with their love!

Shady lady introduces Sev and Nava to a pregnant, mute young woman. Nava pays her. Sev gives the lady a picture of PJ and…Adelina, maybe? He tells the girl to say PJ raped her!

At home, Irma notices her missing money. Uriel points out that Lola is always with her in the store and whenever money’s gone missing. Mari smirks in the shadows.

Val cries on a balcony/landing. Cris asks what’s wrong. What’s up? She’s pregnant with his child!

Short: Al and Cris splinter, but don’t break- They’re almost back on by first commercial break. Lola’s spews jealousy at Pato via phone. Cande wants Cris to get her toy-, sorry, employees back. Tomas tells Pru he loves her and wants to go public. Hum misses Eman and has a nice moment with Blanca. Aldi goes to DF for her wedding dress; takes Lola. Mari frames Lola for theft, Lardo style! Sev plans to frame PJ for rape, Evil style! Val drops the pregnancy bomb!

Thanks for your amazing dedication to the recap biz, hellashelle! The recap goes on despite life trying to get in the way.

I'm already laughing at your opening salvo "Oh me of too much faith."

Hellashelle- No need to apologize. The recap was wonderful, as always!

"Mari frames Lola for theft, Lardo style! Sev plans to frame PJ for rape, Evil style!" LOL! Loved this.

Well, well. Looks like both Cris and Padre J are in for some fake baby-mama drama. Let's see how these two very different men handle the situation.

I think when Al said she expected nothing less of Ren, she meant she knows he's a gentleman and handles things well. Not that she was demanding that he take it well.

I'm glad Eman called Hum. They both needed that call. It looks like Hum's conscience is weighing on him more each day. But when will it actually lead him to do the right thing? He needs a good talking to by the Padre, like Adelina got. Tell the truth, caramba!

This recap is rantcap perfection! Thank you for taking one for the team and recapping it!

A couple of lines I liked (copying and pasting on my phone is a PITA or their would be more.)

" It’s good that I’m eating popcorn for dinner because this is obviously a middle school sleepover and not two grown ass women seriously trying to figure out their relationship problems."

"but PJ --shades of Tofie-- has had enough"

Oh I thought of tofie, too!

HellaShelle, splendid.

"Sev says they can go to hell (oh, the irony)" and "It’s good that I’m eating popcorn for dinner because this is obviously a middle school sleepover and not two grown ass women seriously trying to figure out their relationship problems" were among my favorites. Your vocabulary was delightful and a perfect fit.

I missed this and as it's not available On Demand yet - drat.

"Cris looks at her like she’s gone bsc (yes, Cris, are you finally getting it?") mirrors the frustration I've had for some time. Cris is sweet, gentle caring but is (sometimes) infuriatingly oblivious to the painful truth - that his parents are monsters. Why would he put up with his mother spewing such vile words about his wife? What is it going to take man??

I'm happy Hum reached out to Eman. He has had so little support and affection in his life, at least someone let him know he was being thought of.

Now that Val has spilled her vile lie, are we finally on the way to rock bottom? How many episodes of Aldonza's and Cris' unhappiness will we be forced to endure before this lie is exposed.

Looks like things are looking up for Mel and Dom. Lola? Not so much. I'm really starting to loathe Mari. Good heavens, hasn't she done enough??

Diana

Thank you Hellashelle.

This plot to frame PJ for the pregnancy is so bizarre. Why would they come up with that? Desperate time...

Finally the Val is pregnant with Cris's baby has come to light. I'm betting he buys it hook line and sinker.
But what I"m hoping for is that he doesn't think it's a reason to marry her, but since he's so weak, mommy will insist and he will agree.

And now Lola will get blamed for stealing the money. Can't these writers come up with more creative stuff than this?

Great work, Hellashelle.

I am wondering how many people in SL will buy this latest lie. And will the mute girl be the one to bust this one open? Surely she can't feel right about this.

Here is also hoping that the local police chief will smell a giant rat.

Gracias, HellaShelle!

Thank you for capturing my level of frustration with Cris and Al..."YOU’RE ALREADY MARRIED!" Do you think if we take up a collection, we can hire a skywriter to fly over Santa Lucia? What happened to getting the church ceremony done quickly because that was the "only" way that his family was going to leave them alone? I feel like I missed something, because all of a sudden, everyone is in PJ's office making plans for a big shindig and I'm thinking "OK, people, you did it to yourselves. You offered Cande, Sev, and Val an opportunity to interfere. Don't come crying to me later."

I like the way you summed up "Mari frames Lola for theft, Lardo style!" That girl is...I keep thinking she's on my last nerve, and she keeps finding another nerve to get on.

I just can't even with Sev's plan.

"She’s pregnant with his child!" If the words "DNA" don't pass Cris' lips in the first five minutes my recap may be nothing but a long stream of expletives.

I can't see Irma accusing Lola of stealing. She's too level-headed. Uriel I'm not so sure about. However, he should remember how wrong he was about the money that was stolen from the bank, and think before he makes accusations.

At first I thought that no one here thinks that a civil ceremony is a legitimate marriage and that they need the church wedding to be able to live as husband and wife. But Cris and Aldonza would have consummated their marriage already if she hadn't had her freak out and stopped it. So I don't get it.

How many times in the past have we seen novela couples who don't consummate the marriage or even live together until after the church ceremony?

Having said that, Aldonza and Cristobal should have opted for a private ceremony with only Lola, Emanuel, Dominga, Melesio, and Adelina present. But that would disappoint all those bridal designers competing for whose dress will be in the finale.

Thank you Hellashelle! Excellent recap!!

Lather, rinse, repeat: Al vs. Val…blah, blah, “you’re dumb”, blah blah, “you’re pathetic”.

Cris and Aldi talk to PJ and Adelina about the wedding… Since everyone was finally in the same room at the same time…why didn’t they just go ahead and get married right there!?!

Honestly, this plot is so idiotic. A grown married man can't move out of his family home and live with his wife. Who buys this?

PBN, "Since everyone was finally in the same room at the same time…why didn’t they just go ahead and get married right there!?!" I like your idea. All the dress/flowers/party nonsense can wait for later.

Vivi, "I can't see Irma accusing Lola of stealing. She's too level-headed." Plus she was with Lola most of the day, I'm sure.

This is really good Hellashelle and you made me crave some popcorn.

"middle school sleepover and not two grown ass women"

"Mari, The Worst"

"Sev plans to frame PJ for rape, Evil style!"

Errrrrrr, dammit Severiano stay away from PJ.

Na na na boo boo stick a sock in it Adelina

Please, please Blanca & Eman sitting in a tree, K I S S I N G

No way would I have accepted Cris's sleepover at Vals and lame ass I don't remember what happened nor accepting that goshdern cell phone.

I'm actually impressed with Renato's well worked out adoption of Emanuel's suggestion. Now that is mitigating the risk of melon failure. I have a dear gf in north Texas that piddles with 1500 head of cattle and we're talking ca ching!

Hey all. I've never been happier to escape to the patio, where I can cut apart fake people for their stupid mistakes and demented actions.

I think it's a little bizarre that Cris and Al are acting like he can't move to El Santuario because they haven't been married by the church, but I'm not Catholic. I can't decide if I want to slap them, or respect this support of Catholic law.

My hatred of Mari literally struck me speechless last night. I couldn't even yell at the screen for a while. I just kept shaking my head and making angry sounds.

Only people I didn't want to slap last night: Lulu, Irma, Blanca, PJ, Dom, Mel, Mute Girl. (I'm not really mad at Cris or Tomas, but they need to wake up so -- WHACK!!!)

hellashelle, but like I said above, they must practice cafeteria style catholicism and pick and choose with tenets they want to live by because Cris and Aldonza almost consummated their marriage on their civil wedding night and would have if it weren't for Aldonza not being able to go through with it.

I started worrying Uriel is gonna take Adriano out and eliminate any possibility of ratting on Severiano.

Though I hate it, it is clever Severiano is going to frame PJ. No wonder he wasn't concerned when PJ went free.

I just can't maintain any respect for Cris now. Has both Cris and Aldonza forgotten they had plans for him to move in with her the evening before Val had him arrested.

Hi, hellashelle. Sorry to hear life is getting in your way, but it didn't detract from your wonderful ability to entertain us, and make us laugh with your insights.

Cathyx, I think that the reason they don't move in together is because in the stratified levels of society that Cande inhabits, and to which Roberta aspired, a civil ceremony would be considered low class and unacceptable. The fact that they would have consummated the marriage I don't think has anything to do with it; how many high class people do a little pre-marital consummating regardless of the rules?

Boy, if it weren't for the science of DNA, this thing wouldn't have any basis for a plot of any kind.

Cande, Val, Sev, and Mary just haven't learned that whatever they send down range gets returned big time; shoot a BB down range and a wrecking ball comes back to smash them.

This plot by Sev to implicate PJ in a rape is fraught with potential minefields for Sev, and I hope he steps on each and every one.

The Val baby bomb, likewise is so easily disproven that its long range survivability is non-existent. They could probably do it with just an old fashioned blood typing test.

Thanks again, hellashelle. Great job.

David

I'm not counting on Sev's plan to work. As Urban Anthropologist brought up, the mute girl doesn't look happy. Her mom, on the other hand...there's a special place in hell, lady.

I have confidence in Silvia's ability to poke holes in the whole thing for PJ but then the town may not believe a word anyway. When PJ was released the two popo agreed, had Severiano proceeded the town would have revolted.

Cande is delusional if she believes the town thinks she or Severiano has any class, that ship sailed.

Hellashelle – Thank you for the recap /rantcap/recrap! I love “Oh me of too much faith…”
It should be a telenovela fan’s mantra!

Can this story get any more lame? or stupid? I would bail out, at this point, except I would miss all y'all on the Patio and Melon Margueritas. When does YNCELH start??? Gaaaahhhh!!!!!

Aldonza, Mari, Lola are all in the PMS club this week.

HOW on earth did Irma and Uriel end up with two 150% narcissistic children??? Is this genetic? (well, yes, I think it can be...) If so, it definitely skipped their generation. Yeeesh!

Val's baby bomb....well who didn't see that one coming? Before she said the words, I knew this was The Scene.

Really? Someone is going to believe for a second that PJ raped that poor girl? Really? All of Las Animas needs a telenovela beanie hat. (BTW, now that I am back in town, Patio Peeps’ beanie hat orders are being shipped today)

Some observations:
--- Cris’s bedroom is a Feng Shui swamp and that boy’s got Swamp Brain. Those blue walls and all the wood and wood "elements" (like the stripe fabric) have the water feeding the wood, etc. etc. etc. Even I feel the weight, like I’m drowning, suffocating! when I look at that room.

Change the paint and Feng Shui elements and Cris might be able to function!!! (Telenovela set designers really know their stuff!)

--- Tomas/Pru’s scene were a hoot. Completely turned tables from the usual man using the woman for sex, etc. This is truly comic. Just imagine the genders reversed and we’ve got the stereotype. LOL Too bad Tomas can’t have fainting and nausea and be pregnant. (but maybe Pru can?)

--- That dark burgundy/maroon jacket with the big stand-up ruffled collar Cande was wearing is a dead-ringer knockoff of the one Bernarda wore in Triunfo de Amor. (scroll down for UA’s photo on this discussion of villanas --> http://caraycaray.blogspot.com/2012/06/study-of-novela-villains-part-one.html)

Tomás is rather hawt in a very bad-boy way, in his altar boy robe. I can’t explain it. Maybe it's because I grew up Catholic? LOL

"Cris’s bedroom is a Feng Shui swamp and that boy’s got Swamp Brain" hehehe

doris- I don't know a thing about Feng Shui so I am just fascinated by your analysis of Cris's bedroom.

Hella, thank you for the awesome recap/rant, I loved the line about Mari stealing Lardo style, god what a horrible person she is! I'll be so disappointed if Irma believes Lola stole from her.

As for Sevs plan, I can't even tell you how stabby it makes me feel!

Hellashelle, I gleefully anticipating your recap when Mari stole that money. And then all other kinds of crap went down and I knew the recap was going to rock.

Is it wrong of me that I'm glad when stupid crap happens in other people's days because I know I'm going to get to enjoy some ranting?

Sara, Doris, I know what you mean about that room, it's dark and oppressive, maybe it symbolizes what living in Las Animas is like?

Doris, my husband spent some time with feng shui, so I know a bit about it too. His bed is facing the wrong direction. His feet should be pointing toward the door, with the headboard on the other side of the room.

Ok doris and cathyx - can y'all recommend a basic Feng Shui book? I'm fascinated.

Eli- when Dom and Mel ended up at El Santuario I tried to make Las Animas something. But the name doesn't match at all.

cathyx - Good call! I hadn't even noticed that, but yes that is also a big problem. Very. Bad. Energy. And this stuff does affect a person's overall being.

Sara! Where did the tiny hamster go?!

Thanks for the support guys! The day's getting better...because it's almost over!

I'm with Vivi - Irma's been the more level headed one of her couple. Hopefully, Mari will catch herself in her own trap with this one. Maybe because she's never worked, she doesn't care about the importance of other people's jobs (Eman, Lola).

Love that Blanca's getting some lines. Maybe there's time to work her in yet. Maybe she's meant for Pato? But I think Pato's good for Lola and Blanca could be good for Eman. I must admit though, I put in the at "innocent" because I wondered where they were going with the Hum/Blanca moment.

So I'm please that Aldonza acknowledged how hard this must be for Ren. And pleased that he admitted it. It was nice to see people be honest with each other for a change. I'm sure Aldi meant it as Vivi described it in her first comment today, but I still don't like that Aldi said "I'd expect nothing less from you." I don't like the wording, even if the sentiment was good. All I want to hear her say to him on this subject is "I'm sorry." And maybe, "And I will pay you back."

Tofie - I didn't even consider that! Crap! I hope Irma can hold him back.

Sara - my Feng Shui consultant recommended a book by Terah Kathryn Collins, The Western Guide to Feng Shui and it is very layperson user-friendly. I also have the Lillian Too's The Complete Illustrated Guide to FENG SHUI that is very good. I've had both books for many years, so there might be newer ones out there.

Fifteen years ago, I had two rooms in our house that I absolutely hated. I had gone through two decorators (the second one was highly touted in our area) and hated these rooms even worse afterward. I saw a PBS show on Feng Shui while out of town, found a local consultant, and had her come to the house. She trained in Western Feng Shui, and wasn't into hanging crystals in the rooms or anything too "out there".

Without me saying anything about why I hired her, she immediately identified the two "problem" rooms. Both were out of balance with wood/water "swamp" issues. No wonder my nerves were on edge in one room, and I could not stand to be in the other.

In one room, we swapped the location of two pieces of furniture during her consult and the room felt better already. No decorator had tried that layout, but it opened the room up and removed "poison arrows". She is not a decorator, but explained the Bagua map and gave us one of our house, and told me the elements that were out of balance. I changed the wallpaper, drapes and upholstery within weeks and, ever since, hubby and I love both rooms, ever since.

Was it my imagination, or did Renato look a bit worse for the wear, last night? The guy needs a haircut badly, a shave, but his face looked a bit .... puffy?

Sara - ooh! You have no idea how much I wanted to lay into Mari last night. NO. IDEA. But then a page of my recap would have resembled Diva's imagined one when she said: If the words "DNA" don't pass Cris' lips in the first five minutes my recap may be nothing but a long stream of expletives.

PS: Someone talk me back in to liking Aldonza. My liking that she acknowledged Ren's pain was drowned out by:

1) Her bailing on seeing Cris.
2) Her seeming to be more into her wedding gown and making her relationship function. (Whoops! Just remembered I skipped a scene: "Lola and Aldi squee over her wedding drewss and marrying Cris and sticking it to Val.")
3) The fact that she doesn't seem to have put any independant thought into how this farm is going to work. They didn't even have her suggest Mel? Seriously?

Doris, we have a crystal hanging in our bedroom and so does my daughter, lol. That's all my husband's doing, I don't actually understand it, but I go along with it.

Doris - I was actually feeling Ren more last night than before. I thought his eyes were looking extra blue in his last shot.

Two things I was wondering about last night:

1) It's interesting that they have two mute, minor (so far) characters on the show. I'm always interested when shows portray differently abled people and TNs especially because I feel like it's even more rare.

2) I meant to point out that the writers made it a point to have Cris be all hands on deck for his wedding to Aldi, but was pointed in turning over all wedding prep to his mom, Pru and Val for that wedding. (ok, apparently I have a word of the day today).

Hanging crystals remind me of Pollyanna, a movie that I really liked when I was a kid. I think they'd be really nice as windchimes (which I also enjoy). I've never considered feng shui, but I've lived in a room that could definitely have used it. I never put my finger on it, but maybe it was similar to Cris's: the side of the bed faced the door, there was a lot of wood. The walls were primer white, but old and shabby. Sigh. A fresh coat of paint and the rearrangement of furniture prob would have made me a much happier person.

cathyx - I'm not opposed to hanging a crystal in a room, just that our consultant wasn't into that. I will have to read up on them maybe I need one. Oncoming old age and "life" can be a bit much, and a crystal sure can't hurt anything. :-D

hellashelle - wind chimes are good for Feng Shui.

HellaShell- heart pounding recap thank you. Its really good.
Ok, #1. the baby daddy lie bomb has been dropped. And now it begins. Lets hope it's short and then it ends.
Ok #2.padre raped somebody? Really? Hahahahah, LOL!!!! Not that rape is funny cause it ain't. But leave it to sev to come up with something that vile, since thats his favorite pass time. (Sick bastard).
How the hell is he going to work that without cande killing him. And that poor girl that they are going to use, if that old bat is her grandma or mother, she needs to be strapped to a post and ........well use your imagination I've run out of words.
All in all it was a good episode. And the recap was really good, hit all the good points. The idea to use this poor girl who I think is deaf and she was probably raped by somebody, but to setup Padre J for a rape, what the hell is he ( sev) planning on getting out of doing something that sick and twisted, besides Revenge of course?
Ok, he wants to destroy the padre cause cande got the hots for hims, and he interfeared with his plans to stop him from keeping cris and ally apart. He's a nasty man, he should die. okay that's enough for now, I need to rest.

Aside from the obvious negative energy in Cris' room, *cough*Cande*cough*, I also find it odd that it's so small. He's supposed to be a rich kid but he has this tiny room. Lardo's and Tomas' rooms both look bigger. Val's room is HUGE and her bed is also twice the size of his. But the Mendoza's are sooooooooo rich. Mhm.

Last night, I now Blanca was totally innocently rubbing Humberto's arm, but Mr. 5ft asked "Are they going to end up together?" at the same time I was thinking "Is she auditioning for the role of Wife #2?"

Hellashelle, "Someone talk me back into liking Aldonza." I'm good, but I'm not THAT good!

Hellashelle, thank you once again for a great recap.

Kat, I will not be the one talking you into liking Aldonza, because I really do not like any of them, except maybe PJ. Someone needs to FedEx some anvils to SL.

Rosemary Primera

Sev is out for revenge and this is a triple whammy:

1. Revenge because of Candela's feelings for him (that Sev can't do anything about)
2. Keeps Jeronimo from marrying Cristobal and Aldonza
3. Revenge for his own public humiliation, especially because of the confessional abuse.

I'm pissed that he got so lucky, Urban Anthropologist. He thought he'd be accomplishing 1 and 3. 2 was a bonus.

Which is another annoyance of mine...I get that it would be really special and wonderful to have Padre J do the ceremony, but to insist on him being the one to do it is just going to create yet another delay for the wedding. I wish Cris and Aldonza would make up their minds that they're either going to do this thing quickly or just not let the lack of a church wedding cramp their style. If they don't want to live "together," fine, but there are other rooms in that house. It's getting ridiculous.

I agree. Cristobal should have known better than to allow his mother to get him out of the hospital and back in her dungeon.

The best solution would have been to get the padre to marry them in his hospital room and then to leave SL.

I agree, UA, but it looks like Aldonza wants her big church wedding, dress and all.

We can only hope that the police chief gets suspicious based on the threat Severiano made in front of him two episodes ago.

And that he can smell the dirty rat in this whole new accusation. I think a female detective (if there is one in SL) can question the girl in a way that the truth can come out. But with 41 remaining episodes there is time for lots of angst before we get to the end.

If he doesn't get suspicious...well, see above re: expletive-laden recap. What else is he supposed to think it means when Sev dropped the charges and then said "I'll make him pay!"? Are there some potentially innocent meanings for that, that maybe I'm overlooking?

That girl needs to be questioned away from her mother, but what are the chances?

Another excellent point. In the US she wouldn't be questioned in front of her "mother" (I somehow suspect that woman isn't actually related to her). And that Nava got involved in this is really insane.

On many levels. Wasn't he the one who advised Sev not to go after the Padre unless he had something ironclad? In what way is bribing someone to threaten someone else to lie a sure thing?

It isn't, but I'm sure Sev thinks it is. He may be becoming unhinged since murdering Simoneta.

I agree, but what's Nava's excuse? He seemed to be taking an active role in this rather than just nodding along and agreeing with Sev. Surely he knows this is bound to fail. And even if it doesn't, once you've paid somebody off, they NEVER stay paid off! She's going to spend all the money and start asking for more, and if he doesn't want to pay, she'll threaten to tell the cops the truth. Sev might be coming unhinged, but Nava knows better.

Maybe this is Nava's way of getting out from under Sev's thumb...claim he had nothing to do with it and wave as Sev gets hauled off to prison.

PJ knows how to get a DNA test and he's not afraid to use it. Bring it!

I've been thinking about the farm thing and Renato's money and I DON'T think that Aldonza is abusing him. Here are my reasons-- they signed a contract to be equal partners in the farm, meaning they will BOTH be reaping profits if there are any. Al has invested a HUGE amount of money to rent the land for a year (yes, too little time) and the initial investments. Renato invested his part of the money in staffing and also other investments like Al. They both put big money on the table, they both took big risks with their money, if it pays off they'll both get their money back.

The only services I see Al abusing, if she isn't paying, are Ren's lawyer services that don't have anything to do with the farm.

As long as he's still around to talk some sense into the two lovebirds. *shudder* I am so not looking forward to tonight. We've got, what, 3 baddies who set plots in motion last night...I'd better put a hard cider in the fridge to chill.

Kat- That was a lot of plotting last night. Between Sever and Nava, Val, and Mari, things started to look very grim. Thank goodness we had Tomas to lighten things up. I'm interested in what else he does to show Pru that he's the real deal.

I've never seen any sparks with Hum and Blanca. She just seems like a nice, level-headed lady. I kind of like to think of her going home to her nice, normal hubby and small kids each evening and thanking the Lord that she's not part of that Santa Lucia madness that's sucking her boss' soul.

Vivi, I agree with what you're saying, I just think that the show is portraying it in a way that makes it seem like it's not an equal partnership. Ren appears to be putting in more in terms of money because Al's payment of the rent was so long ago, and now every time something new comes up it's coming out of Ren's pocket. And lately, he also seems to be putting in more in terms of the business planning/running. I'm not seeing her expertise come into play. And yes, definitely, knowing that he has feelings for her that she doesn't return is affecting my perception of the whole thing. It maybe fair on paper, and in terms of the money that's going into Mis Planes, but it doesn't seem fair. I'm not sure if that was a mistake, or if it's being done for a reason.

She seems to young for him too.

Vivi, as much as I disliked Tomas' socks-with-underwear look, I'd MUCH rather have to endure that again than seeing Sev, Val, and Mari dumping on PJ, Cris/Aldonza, and Lola. Didn't she mention another "spiritual retreat"? Bring it on!

Lol, yeah, we're probably totally misreading the Blanca/Hum thing...we have suspicious minds.

Wow! I went to grab a bite to eat with Hubs and I come back to tons of comments.

doris-Thank you for the book recommendations! I've got them in my amazon wishlist ready for my next payday!

Eli-I started missing Roberta so I went back to my Melon of Ill-Repute.

Could the Blanca-Hum scene be a red herring?

I think we're conditioned from other tns to believing that no man-woman friendship relationship can just be platonic. I don't think the writers are throwing out anything but a friend vibe with Pato-Silvia, Lulu-Tomas, and Hum-Blanca.

If nothing else, I hope it's the beginning of Blanca being more important to the story. She's always been there in the background, and she seems like a decent person, and last night was just different somehow. I don't think they've had a conversation before that isn't about work.

Plus, Lulu's got two boyfriends already...I don't think she's looking for a third :D

(But, if she is, I say "You go, Lulu!")

It would be fun to hear/see Lulu try to juggle three boyfriends. I can see Padre's eyes rolling already during her confession. :)

I just cackled out loud thinking of it! "Ay, Lulu!"

I think the point of Blanca's character is to be the sounding board for Hum to express his feelings with regards to Emanuel. Otherwise we wouldn't know quite how Hum feels about him and what his regrets are, they aren't going to have him talk to himself, or do the thought bubbles. I don't think her character will be developed any more than it is.

Vivi - Sigh. Dammit, you're right and I know it! Every look, every touch becomes a future love in my mind and I'm leading people down the rabbit hole with me. Blanca is much younger than Hum and could very well have a nice, normal family at home. Geez, and I am getting used to coupled up "nice" (or redeemable) people at the end of my TNs. I need more AB's to de-train me.

Cathyx-that's a good point. It's not like Hum has any friends, especially since Eman left the house.

Hellashelle - Oh I know how you feel about Mari. I'm at that table too! It's getting the point that whatever she does I just hate her. It's always nice to know I'm not alone and I look forward to your rants. :D

It's hard to see how Emanuel and Lola get back together. He left town after Joaquin questioned him even though Joaquin wasn't telling him he was lying like Lola did. I can't see how he can forgive her for not believing in him, even after she learns the truth and feels sorry about it.

You might be right cathyx, but the writers might surprise us.
It would be a pleasant one. Not saying he should cheat on the wife, she (pru) has that covered. But hum has madness going on In his life. He could use some peace. Blanca could be that peace, or not. Somebody in SL need some peace.
Mari is just ugly.
Sev is probably unraveling as we speak.
Cande, what can I say sbout her highness, really what can I say about her?
Cris, grow a pair, take off the blinders.
Aldonza, stop being so stupid, stop playing into cande and viles hand, also grow a pair.
Sev, GO TO HELL!!!! SUFFER FIRST.
Padre J, should take off that collar, and beat the hell outta sev. That might not make him feel better. But it'd feel good doing it. Then he can go and repent.
I am not a violent person but oh em gee this guy deserves a good beating. In the next few weeks I'll probably be "so pissed I wont be able to yell at the TV." Somebody farther up said that. I feel your pain.
AREN'T THEY ALREADY MARRIED? Why do they need a wedding now? They're making trouble for themselves. And troube they are agettin.
