La Gata #35 Fri 10/17/14 La Estupidez

With "La Terquedad" as a close second for title.

PART 1
The teacher in me seemed to think everything was an essay question. I did a little scene combining, too.

Is it really Pablow's fault? Why or Why not?
Virginia and Mariano lobby for Pablow. They try to convince Augie to make up with Pablo and let him back in the house. Augie is too wrapped up in the legal proceedings against him. No. Pablo is not coming back to the house. All he's done is slung mud on the family name and made enemies of the Elizaldes (Monica's parents.) They could have been great allies against Fernando de la Santa Cruz, but Pablow ruined that.

Is it nature or nurture? Choose a side and back up your argument with examples
El Silencio complains about Pablow shirking his parental responsibilities. He's a Martinez Negrete. That explains everything. Jarocha thinks El Silencio is just as stubborn as well, Esmeralda. This kind of pleases El Sil. Jarocha warns him that if he continues Esme will end up leaving the house. Jarocha reminds him that she and Esme know abject misery and they know how to survive. Sure things are nice at his house, but Esme would have no problem leaving if El Sil doesn't slow his roll. El Sil thinks he couldn't bear losing his child again. His whole reason for venganza would be gone if he lost Esme.

Are the children accountable for the sins of the father? Is the father that abandons his child to fate redeemable?
Augie reminds Mariano and Virginia that they enjoyed the riches that his crime brought them. Mariano admits he was complicit since he did indeed enjoy the spoils. He's also willing to support his dad, but Augie has to make amends with Pablow. Pablow is suffering. Augie says that it's too bad.

Does conveyor belt sushi hurt the employment rates? What effect does it have on the economy of the DF?
Virginia is with Carlos at the self serve sushi restaurant. She is upset because family is in a shambles. Her dad is blaming everyone for his undoing. Pablo is suffering and she can't do anything. No one will listen to her and she feels useless. Carlos wishes he had money and could marry her and take her away. Virginia wonders how he could possibly marry a blind girl. It doesn't matter to Carlos. One day he IS going to ask permission to marry her! Virginia returns to the original topic. Her family is in total collapse (desmoronar). Her father won't accept help from anyone. Virginia wants to talk to Esme. She's afraid Esme won't see her and that Carlos, being friends with Esme, could help smooth things over. Carlos is more than willing to help. They head for Fernando's Hideaway/Venganza Central.

Is Lowrenza a good mother
Pablo wakes up and Lowrenza comforts him. She asks if there's anyone he wants to see. He says he has no one and no one wants to see him. Lowrenza thinks Monica would run to his side (Bonus question: What is the cause of Lowrenza's deep denial? Is it denial or some sort of learning disability? Future psychometrists or psychologists-make a diagnosis.)

Despite the Monica quip, Lowrenza does indeed call the Fortress of Silencioso-tude to try and get Esme. Unfortunately, Esme is not home. Lowrenza thinks it was a lucky break. What kind of mistake would she have committed if Esme had actually been home?

Stupid comic relief in a drama-For or against?
Rita's suitor is a former boxer named Ramon aka Chácharas (chatter; chitchat; small talk--they got his name right.) The only purpose this scene served (IMHO) was to give Gata a chance to escape to the hospital cafeteria where she runs into Lowrenza. Later Jarocha meets Chácharas (accent on the first "a"...he's a stickler for spelling.) Whatever. Right now I find this all unnecessary. This show isn't half bad, Ms. Latoodle-oo. Why are you so determined to ruin it? (Response this question is optional.)

Lowrenza has a good question: Was it God or the Devil that put Esme in front of her
Lowrenza tells Esme that Pablo is dying and it's Esme's fault. He fell off a scaffolding and Lowrenza doesn't know if it was on purpose or not. Pablo doesn't seem to want to live. Lowrenza is willing to sacrifice everything...even humiliate herself in front of Esme. She begs Esme to see Pablo. He's at the very same hospital where they sit. He needs Esme.

Part II
Ok. No more essay questions. Just thinking aloud questions.

Jarocha runs into Esme in the cafeteria and gets filled in on Lowrenza's request. Emse was so upset, she even forgot to ask for his room number. Jarocha tells her they can ask for that information.

Meche is happy to meet Virginia (and feed Carrrlos)...until she finds out she's a Martinez Negrete. Meche thinks El Sil will blow a gasket if he finds out who her parents are. She shuffles Virginia out ASAP. (C'mon...would El Sil really hate Virginia, too? Who could hate her?) Check out Carrlos' face. Do NOT mess with Virginia. He is VERY protective.

Mariano tries to convince Pablo to fight. Pablo wants to finish the mural. He wants to get paid so he'll have something for his children. Pablo says on one hand he want to do all he can to finish the mural for his kids and on the other he doesn't want to do anything. Mariano says that's the depression. Esme comes to visit. Mariano leaves them alone.

Outside in the hallway, Mariano and Jarocha talk. She tells him that La Gata is there because Lowrenza asked her to go see Pablo. Mariano can't believe it. First his mom does everything possible to separate them and ruin the lives of their children and now she's begging Gata to help Pablo. Mariano mumbles about his mother always ruining lives. Jarocha intuits that Mariano is in love with Esme. (Did anyone else think that seemed like a stretch for Jarocha to figure that out so quickly? I didn't think he'd really said anything THAT telling.)

This is a first for me! Actually discussing a problem!
Pablo can't believe Gata is there. How could she not come see him? He was in an accident. He jokes about yerba mala nunca muere (bad grass never dies...which sounds so much better in Spanish.) Esme doesn't even want him to joke about dying. He has to live for his children. He wonders why she never admitted the kids were his. She confesses she was mad and offended. (Wow, I am just gobsmacked!!) He admits he doesn't deserve her. She a woman with dignity and of moral upstanding character and he's the son of a thief. Surely she hates him and is disgusted by him and his family. She tells him not to be silly. He's not like his parents at all. Neither of them are at fault for what the parents have done (Seriously, this whole scene is just so refreshing. Oh, and BTW I am being real fast and loose with the interpretation.)

Mariano asks Jarocha not to repeat that stuff about him loving La Gata. It could complicate an already delicate situation with his family. Besides, what is she talking about? Jarocha says she knows men and she knows Mariano loves La Gata. Unfortunately, Pablo comes first. Mariano is going to have to keep his love quiet. He sulks off. Jarocha thinks to herself that Mariano is a good guy. Maybe he actually is more deserving of Esmeralda, but the heart wants what the heart wants.

Esme and Pablo continue to amaze me. Pablo is happy to hear Esme call him "mi amor", but he says again he doesn't deserve her. He did and said terrible things. All Esme can think about is them. She loves him. He has to see his children. She tells him about Pablo and Leti. Or she tried to. Pablo asks her to stop. He still feels so bad about denying them. Esme says she'll bring the babies to see him tomorrow.

Carrlos walks Virginia home and tells her not to worry. They will solve the problem. She thanks him and they kiss. Dorila comes out and insults Carrlos. Virginia tells her to respect Carrlos. She may put up with rudeness from her mother, but she's not going to put up with it from Dorila. Go girl! Virginia goes back in the house and Carrlos asks Dorila to attempt to be human and not to tell Virginia's parents or they will yell at her (Awww! He's not even worried about himself.) Dorila tell him he's reaching too high trying to woo a fine society girl like Virginia. She probably wouldn't even give him the time of day if she could actually see him. (Dorila needs some shin-kicking.)

Aaaand...back to the old grind. Pablo thinks that if Esme really knew who her father was, she would hate Pablo and never forgive him. That's why he needs to leave the hospital so he can avoid her visit with the kids tomorrow. He's not worthy of her (Ok. I'll give him that, but running out like a dog with his tail between his legs is not a smart idea, either. How's that going to look, dimwit?) If Esme knew what Augie stole from her dad? If she knew that Augie threw her dad in jail? He repeats he's not worthy. He's leaving the hospital. He waxes philosophic. It wasn't really all Lowrenza's fault (yes it was) it was society, human ego, misrepresentations. (well, Lowrenza helped.) No. He's determined to give up Esmeralda. He's ashamed of himself and his family.

AAARGH!!!! Meanwhile, Esme tells Damian she is as happy as a lark! She and Pablo have talked! Love for her and her children has returned! They've fixed everything! They can be happy now! Damian is an aguafiestas (party pooper) and doesn't think things are that easy. She really needs to talk to El Sil (why the hell does she need to talk to him?) Esme disagrees. Pablo will be by her side and that's what she will fight for.

Pablo and Lowrenza continue the "I'm ashamed of my family" conversation. They all need to accept their guilt. He's firm in leaving the hospital. When Esme comes back tomorrow. He won't be there.

LowLowrenza returns home to the news that Virginia has been out with Carrlos. She runs to Virginia's room and tells her she's a terrible daughter. Virginia stands up to mom and says she won't let her mom send her away again. Lowrenza says she won't reward her with a trip this time. If she keeps seeing Carrrlos, Lowrenza will send her to an institution for the blind where she won't be a bother. Special.place.in.hell.

Jarocha and Esme debate the Esme/Pablo relationship. They try to sneak the babies out to see Pablo, but they get busted by El Silencioso. She explains that Pablo is dying and she's taking the babies to see him. She will be by his side if it costs her her life! El Sil tells her she's not going.

Lowrenza bleats and Augie drinks. Augie thinks they are beat. FDLSC hates them and there is no way to appease him. Lowrenza reminds them about La Gata. They could beg for forgiveness. Augie would rather die than beg that man for anything.

Jarocha decides to wait outside with the children. El Sil gets on my bad side. Esme explains that she and Pablo are trying to work things out and El Sil just thinks she's giving in and not being dignified. He thinks Pablo should be the one begging, not Esme. (That's not how it works you bloodthirsty jack wagon!!!! Esme is doing things the right way! SHUT UP!!) El Sil HAS to avenge himself!!

The Doctor denies Pablo's request to leave. Pablo is going anyway. Exit Doctor. Enter Monica. QTH??? Mariano called her....but she didn't have to come running!! SHE'S the one with no dignity??? Did she suffer a brain injury the day after she spoke to Esme. All that progress and she's just back to being the slavishly devoted dimwit she once was?? I'm not happy with this.

More estupideces from El Sil. Esme doesn't think Pablo is to blame for what his parents did. El Sil disagrees. Before Pablo and Esme can be together, she has to stick to her promise to be strong. She doesn't want to be cruel to Pablo. El Sil is in a tough nooggies kind of mood. She's going to have to suck it up. She and Pablo can't be together until El Sil has carried out his venganza on the parents. I'm not happy with this, either.

La Gata gets kidnapped.

Sara, yes! Your list of questions is correct. It's like we start all over again each episode.

Couldn't believe Lorenza begged Gata for help. And then threatened to ship Virginia off to some institution! These are the craziest people ever.

I think Jarocha should go across the street and take care of Dorila. In a permanent kind of way.

Oh I wish you were writing this La Paloma! A Dorila/Jarocha showdown would be fun to watch!

There is not a beanie big enough to get me through this.

I still find it terribly entertaining. My beanie hasn't worn out yet! :-)

About to get started on the reacap.

Part 1 is up. I've got to run some errands, but I'll be back to finish up later.

Sara- I love the essay question format! I can't wait to read the rest.

The hospital room scene between Esme and Pablo was sweet and very satisfying. Loved hearing him take on the blame that he deserves for ruining their relationship. He is VERY lucky that Esme is such an understanding and forgiving soul. I guess she has to be, since Pablo seems determined to continue with the estupidez.

Hello everyone.

Vivi, Lucas and Dani got into a big fight last night on Hasta el Fin de Mundo, uh oh.

Sara, your recap was hilarious and clever. Thanks for covering it all in a very stylish way!

I couldn't believe Pablo is going to bail out before Esme returns with the children because...he's not able to offer them anything (financial support) yet. Please, mister--You have been inhaling too many open cans of paint!

Also I was ready to throw breakables at my TV when Lorenza kept rubbing it into Esme's face that Pablo was in the hospital "por tu culpa". No no no!

Not familiar with the art gallery actress who offered Pablo his own show, but she looks like trouble...and she was wearing cat's eye style sunglasses.

Poor Virginia! Mommie threatens to send her to a home for the blind so she won't be a bother to them anymore. Call Omar, dear girl, and have him get you out of there!!!

Recap is done.

Sara..Thanks for that excellent format and the essay prompts. Has Pablow ever written an essay ?

Love it Sara. Too many to mention.

"Does conveyor belt sushi hurt the employment rates? What effect does it have on the economy of the DF?"

For the first time I actually got what Fernando has been proposing to Esmeralda as a way to have Pablo for good. He must be the one to come to her a complete man, apologize (out of strength & humility but not weakness) and ask for her to be with him not the other way around. Last night she professes her love for him on her knees, he does give an I'm sorry but soon as she leaves makes plans to give her up for good and run away because of his shame.

Strangely Fernando and Pablo want the same thing and know the timing off and the metamorphosis incomplete. They want a man that stands on his own two feet and worthy of the love of Esmeralda and the father of the twins.

It was easy for Pablo to feel superior and in control (dude didn't even go for some middle class girl at the mall) but the roles are reversed, he needs to understand he was never better than Esmeralda and therefore did not fall from grace nor has she risen above him and pity him as he did her.

How Low Can You Go-Lowrenza...I cannot believe the way she treats sweet Vitginia. Ick

Sara..Are you still seeing my comments in your email or is my attempt to post a comment just a lesson in futility ? I hate my IPad.

Sara..Are you still seeing my comments in your email or is my attempt to post a comment just a lesson in futility ? I hate my IPad.

I'm still seeing your responses in my email, Susanlynn!

tofie- I love your comment. You always have a marvelous and thought provoking take on things!

Sara---I love the way you put together the recap, New, fresh and interesting. Also unique. Great job all the way through.

I liked she's a women with dignity and of moral upstanding character and he's the son of a thief. Well that's not Pablow's fault but I think that Tofie hit the nail on the head. Fernando has it right. Pablo needs an attitude adjustment before Esme should take him beck. She wants to run back to him show him the two babies and start anew but that would just be asking for trouble at sometime in the future.
Attitudes need to change first and Pablow is not ready yet.

Esme is doing things the right way! Shut Up!! I disagree. Read the previous paragraph again and read what Tofie wrote.

Yes, I vote for a Jarocha Dorila showdown. My money is on Jarocha.

Don't worry about Virginia being sent off to the Institute for the Blind. If she does go, it won't be for long. After Fernando finishes with the Negrete's they won't have enough money to keep her there.

Not a spoiler but I see at the end
Fela happily watering and caring
for her roses at the mansion as she had done several years ago. Fela will once again be happy with her husband Fernando and their daughter Esmeralda or will it be Renata?
the gringo

Lorenza - pretty please with sugar on top

Rita - Chácharas phft, I've seen under that gown

Jarocha - the TSA could use you at security and dispense with the scanners

Esmeralda - "Sometimes, all I need is the air that I breathe
And to love you" ...and other times I want to strangle you

Dorila - keep on and you'll get an azzwhoopin you'll not forget

Mariano - hidden agenda

Fernando - cats have a mind of their own

Virginia - do mommie a favor or else

Carlos - gotta wise & clean up

Augie - Pablo who

Sara – Fine recap. Loved the question format.

I was amazed that Pablo and Esme talked things through and coming together. And then he goes and spoils it with his doofus plan to sneak out on her cause he’s not good enough for her yet. Why not tell Esme that’s how he feels and ask her for time to get himself together?

Fernando is so wrong to try to force Esme to go along with his venganza. But I don't care - I want to see Fernando's venganza.

Sara- I loved the rest of the recap!

I agree with you all that Pablo has a LOT more manning up to do before he and Esme can form a real relationship with each other, that doesn't preclude him from starting to bond with his children, or starting to have some real conversations with Esme about how he and she feels and what they want to do in the future. And if they are to ever have any hope of a true relationship, then they need to stop letting other people dictate the course of their relationship-- that includes Lowrenza AND el Sil. Time for them both to grow up. That doesn't mean it will happen immediately, or that they'll walk out of the hospital hand-in-hand. But they have to start somewhere.

Did anyone wonder how fast Pablow
recovered from a head injury? One day maybe two days and the neck brace comes off and he's leaving.
Isn't that a little too fast?

There are halls of fame for sports
and halls of fame for music. We need a novela hall of fame and in that hall of fame there should be a special space reserved for Tofie's lists. Those lists are pure gold.

I'm wondering where this is going to go next. We have Pablow running away but not really. He still has to finish the mural so he can easily be found. Monica is back. Where are the writer's going with her return? Lowrenza is softening a little but not really. Augie is hitting the bottle and Virginia might be shipped off again, well at least for a little while. I'm curious to
see where the Ines part of the story will go and also what will Mariano's future be? Mariano is this story's mystery. Will Dorila suffer from an a falling anvil? So many questions so I am going to stay glued to my tv each weekday night.

On the Novela Hall of Fame, there should be a special room set aside for all of the GREAT Caray
recappers, they deserve no less.

Madelaine PLEASE get well, you are missed soooooo very much.
the gringo

Well it looked like Carlos lost his washcloth again...face was clean for awhile, now he's grimy again. Aren't rags and water available in the 'hood? But my burning question is--how long before someone suggests an operation to restore Virginia's sight? If she is admitted to an institution for the blind, maybe they would suggest it?

Fingers crossed,
J in Oregon

Esmeralda could give Carlos a box of baby wipes for on the go

Sara thank you for an excellent enjoyable recap.

Here’s my 2 cents:
Thanks for clarifying “Jarocha intuits that Mariano is in love with Esme. (Did anyone else think that seemed like a stretch for Jarocha to figure that out so quickly”? I thought it was just me. I even replayed it to see if I could better understand the connection.

I can’t figure Mariano out. One day he’s on my top 3 list and the next seems his concern is self serving.

I dislike those hospital scenes with the old man wandering into Rita’s private room and flirting with her. Gone are the days when dirty/flirty old men were considered harmless and cute.

The writers have a tendency of making the good guys a little too good which looks more like a weakness than goodness. I’m referring to Esme caressing Lorenza’s hand in a comforting way even after Lorenza’s repeated accusations “por tu culpa”.

Last but not least, I didn’t watch CI, but this novela reminds me of a lot of DQTQTQ. Now it’s Esme’s turn to reject Pablo. That’s obvious since the veganza plan has Pablo begging on bended knee and we’re not close to that yet.

Sara, this was just a great rendering of this episode with yet another inventive format. Thank you!

I am wondering who will mature first, the twins or Pablo?

I think Fernando has a point in his advice (his demands?) to Esme, but he stated it poorly; he should have taken more time to explain why Pablo needed to go through more life experiences before he could be an asset in Esme's life.

I can't figure out Lorenza's or Mariano's games. It seems to me as though both have serious head issues.

gringo, your observation that Virginia wouldn't be gone long due to lack of money was funny and insightful.

Sara, your essay question format took me back to my junior year of high school where I had a teacher who used that exact style of forming test questions. I have never seen it since (most of the courses I have taken since that time have been more science or technical oriented; you don't ask a question about your opinion of the acceleration of gravity, for example).

David

Who will mature first the twins or Pablo---so funny but true. The way things are going, the twins might win.

Something that I was going to say but I forgot--there is so much to write about in this novela. One or two episodes back when Garabato
burst into Fela's home, Erica Buenfil did a great job, short but great nevertheless of acting both crazy and afraid at the same time. I often wonder how actors do what they do, I couldn't. Yes they go to acting school but still

One other thing---Often at the end of scenes when the camera comes in for a close up of Maite's
big, dark brown eyes, it's riveting. The way that she lowers her head and then uses her big brown eyes to perfection with that upward look OMG! that's fantastic.
Sara---You're a Maite fan what say you? I'm a man so maybe I will see those looks differently but still I say, they're nothing short of riveting perfection.
the gringo

Sara. Thank you for this entertaining and creatively-presented recap. Absolutely marvelous! And so enjoyed ALL the comments. Agree with Tofie's insightful observations on Fernando's reasoning..agree with David Fer could have explained it more and Missy R that this rude, intrusive, mentally-unbalanced old flasher running around the hospital harassing all the women is NOT cute!

So sorry to see the kidnapping to come. Meathead is sure to be behind this. Jarocha, the man-whisperer should have seen this coming and warned Esme! What an annoying piece of up-chuck he is!

And who is Ms. LaToodle I've seen referred to here?

Lila

"Jarocha, the man-whisperer" what a hoot Lila

Tofie- Ms. Latoodle refers to Nathalie Lartilleux, producer of La Gata; Corazon Indomable; Mar de Amor; Cuidada con el Angel. You're starting to get the picture of the kind of tns she produces. Dirt-poor, raven haired girl, meets rich boy, falls madly in love, gets separated from him through evil plots, finds out she was really born rich, finds real/long lost parents, usually has a baby at some point, and a pet of some sort. Logic is not a big part (or any part) of her tns, nor strong writing. But she gets really purty protagonists, and her tns can be silly fun. :) She's also the wife of producer Salvador Mejia, who has his own large fan club here (NOT!).

Gringo: Erika Buenfil is doing a Masterful job with Fela/Blanca and she seems to enjoy it as well. That scene you mention was absolutely impressive. Do you remember when she tried to board the bus a few episodes back, 2:48 into episode 27 to be exact? Fela sits in a seat behind a person who has a live turkey: she wags the doll toward the turkey while mimicking a turkey gobble. The turkey seems taken aback and it is just a HILARIOUS scene which I'm sure Erika ad libbed! It was priceless.

And yes, Maite has that upward gaze honed to versatile perfection: it's a weapon, it's a tool to assess, dismiss, express fear, threaten, entreat forgiveness, or seduce. Oh yeah, girl got it goin' on. I'd certainly use it if I had it! Grin!

Lila

Sorry- That was directed at Lila, not Tofie.

Tofie, your admiring a phrase of mine is a high honor and I'm not kidding, your lists are off the chain!

Thanks Vivi. . .you summed it up skillfully girl, that's pretty much what we're being served here! Thanks!

Lila

Gracias for this excellent recap, Sara!

Talk about two steps forward, one step back. I was disappointed that after Pablo and Gata actually having a reasonable conversation, Pablo's next decision is to run away. Ay Pablo!

I actually wasn't surprised about Jarocha figuring out Mariano was in love with Gata so quickly. She's Jarocha. She knows from men. It's like a superpower.
