TELEMUNDO Y MÁS: Reina de Corazones -- PAGE ONE: week of September 29, 2014

¡Hola, Reinamaniacs! Are we ready for a new week of our novela loca? Let's get our Crackpots™fired up for new theories and our beanies adjusted. We all hope that our Dragon will escape the soul-draining influence of Estefi and get some of his wisdom back. I have updated the Dropbox compilation of recaps here .

I have also updated the Perils of the Dragon (although I might have to add another one after tonight):

The Perils of the Dragon or, It's Hard being Navier

shot twice in back on Victor's orders;
beaten by guards in prison;
knocked out when Reina was kidnapped;
shot in leg rescuing Reina w/fever complications;
shot (graze only) while in shower with Reina;
forcibly sedated on orders of Esmeeth;
knocked out by Izzy and pinned by falling beam in fire in body-storage place;
shot in shoulder by Fico in parking deck;
poisoned by coffee laced with heart-attack flu virus;
involved in roll-over car crash - no injuries;
shot in chest by Reina but was wearing a bullet-proof vest - no injury;
thrown through window of hotel onto van on Victor's orders - minor injuries, broken ribs;
knocked out, chained up, beaten and almost shot on Victor's orders - minor injuries; and
rendered unconscious by sleeping gas in diamond vault by Estefi.

Enjoy!!

Thank you Jean.

One of the perils of being a Reinamaniac is the KIA sightings. My cup runneth over from a double sighting today:
--- a KIA white sedan DragonMobile
and
--- a KIA green SUV techno rodentmobile.
Now all I need are a Dragon sighting on my TV screen tonight, and Julio Iglesias ..."llevandome a otro dimension", and the day will be complete. ;-)

Enrique Iglesias. I'm not sure Julio Iglesias could llevandome á otro dimensión. Enrique can though. ;-)

Can't wait to see what tonight brings!

Thanks Jean! Can't wait until the show starts.

Thank you Jean! Poor Navier -- he has a right to be cranky, don't you think?

I finally spotted a white KIA rodentmobile. I'm still looking for Enrique though...

Uh oh. Better look sharp -- it's TIME!!!

Red diamonds rollin' around on the floor - too funny!

I know! (At first I thought they were going to absorb the impact of the bullets and save her life.)

Vaya!!! Enrique.... typing Julio just didn't feel right. LOL

Didn't one of those red puppies fall on the ambulance floor?

Hey guys!

Feel free to discuss tonight's episode. Recap will up in the morning!

Thanks Caroline! Looking forward to the recap! :)

Yes. One of the diamonds did fall on the ambulance floor. I was afraid that Victor had spotted the red diamond that fell in the hospital. I was relieved when it turned out that he didn't see it. I'm glad that Reina has one of those red diamonds in her posession.

I suppose Estefania defying the curse is what led her to be shot. I had a feeling that it would be her who would get shot. It would have been too much had Navier been shot yet again. Either way I had my Bud Light ready just in case. ;)

My favorite moment from tonight was Lopez 2.0 kicking the hit man after he was shot by Navier and fell off the second floor.

What was with Clara being sick? Was it so she could hallucinate and let Connie know that Victor is a magician?

Great episode tonight!! Can't wait until tommorrow!!!

Mauricio - I think you got it, re: Clara's fever and outing Victor el mago. Makes sense to me.

How could that priest NOT see the sniper in the balcony?!?

Looks like RdC is one of the rare telenovelas where the protagonist kills someone. It's a first for me.

I kept wondering where Stefi put the red diamonds in the dress. I first thought (because of their shape) was that they were going in the bust. :) But that dress didn't leave much to the imagination on top, so I assume they were hidden somewhere in that HUGE bustle and train.

Maybe the diamonds were attached to her underwear for Navier to find on her when they, uh, consummated the marriage. Her jewels for the family jewels as it were...

Jean--Family Jewels, for shame! This is a Family Show, with Family Values at 8pm.

Does the attack when he was posing as Reina's driver count as a peril? He did some fancy evasive maneuvering to get out of that one while being shot. (Reina was in the back seat.)

Doris--Not only was the sniper in full view, but had nobody, CIA or otherwise (Victor's promise to Stefi that nothing would happen) done a preliminary sweep of the place?

Bring on the recap!!!!!!

Jean and NovelaMaven: I like NovelaMaven's Crockpot Theory! It makes a lot of sense about went wrong with Asuncion's marriage after Reina was born. Reina's "perfect" father is sounding more and more like Victor, right up to turning the daughter against her mother and even threatening to kill the daughter.

Penny

Ok, my favorite scene was when they wheeled Esetfi out from OPEN HEART SURGERYinto the waiting room so she could tell Greta that she was her Mother. I think my beanie slipped clear off as I guffawed.

I'm a pear floating in jello...

Miguel - wheeling someone out from surgery to the waiting area was truly a QTH? moment. I was laughing, too.

But it served its purpose as a plot propeller, in that Stefy got to say 'soy tu madre', and we just know everyone will say it was the anesthesia and pain meds that made her 'hallucinate' and say that.

So, Javier and Stefy had both the civil and church wedding ( where the church wedding alone covers all the requirements of law here in the US). This means that Stefy will have to die before Javier and Reina can be together. Victor, too, unless Reina gets an annulment based in lack of consummation.

SOOOO when I went to open my typed up recap at work to finish editing it I realized that I had sent myself the wrong recap!!!! It was from weeks ago! So I won't be able to post anything until after I get home this afternoon. Sorry guys!! (Though now I am kind of nervous that maybe it didn't save at all!! Cross fingers!)

Doris I would say that death is a highly probable ending for both Victor and Estefi since they have both murdered people, in Victor's case, many people. Even Estefi is giving up on the "they deserved to die" rationale. BUT it is possible that the marriages are not valid because either one or the other was previously married to someone else who isn't divorced or dead. That sometimes happens.

Did I miss something? When did we find out that the wedding photographer was part of the plot to kill Navier? Two guys running around Vic's house during the wedding and they didn't even try and kill Navier once? Not very good sicarios.

Where the hell was Izzy during the wedding? Vic couldn't even reach him on the phone. He wasn't with Connie. And the CIA, who knew that an attempt would be made on their agent's life, didn't even deploy their crummy security that never does anything. FELS and Esmeeth are hanging around at headquarters and don't even go to the Church.

There were many laugh aloud moments in last night's capitulo:

Navier and Reina finding giant red diamonds lying on the floor of the ambulance and falling out of the bag of Estefi's stuff. First time I've ever seen a bag of the person's effects being given to relatives at a hospital and Reina carrying around the huge bag with Estefi's wedding dress stuffed in it was very funny;

The incredibly obvious francotirador (sniper) in the balcony of the Church. Why did he wait to fire until Navier and Estefi were actually married?

And of course, bringing someone who was just in major surgery out to the waiting room.

Caroline I did that once but I live within walking distance of my work so I just went home and sent myself the correct version. To prevent problems like that, I paste the text of the recap into the email and attach it as a document. That way if there's something wrong with the attachment, I can always copy and paste the text into my word processing program.

No worries. We'll have fun out here anyway.

I had gone into the kitchen, so I didn't see the diamond fall on the floor of the ambulance. I wondered where it was. Thanks all. So, Navier has it? Hmmm... Of course, he probably won't turn it into the CIA, since it would expose Stefi. What exactly does Navier think his job is right now? He's HIDING info on Stefi's diamond trafficking. He can't get past his jealous snits long enough to investigate Victor. He's doing a crap job protecting Reina, and is in fact making her life harder. He's complicating his life by marrying Stefi (to what end?), in the Church, no less!

Anita said Does the attack when he was posing as Reina's driver count as a peril? He did some fancy evasive maneuvering to get out of that one while being shot. (Reina was in the back seat.)

I have not counted the many times when people have been shooting at Navier or others and Navier was present and he has escaped completely unharmed. I think there are just too many examples. By the rules I decided to use to make the list, if shooting is involved, Navier has to actually be shot so I would not include the shooting at the wedding. I included other perils where Navier is not injured or had very minor injuries but where a normal person would be injured or even killed such as being thrown out of the window of a building onto the roof of a vehicle or being pinned by a falling beam in a fire.

Vivi--I don't think it was Javier that found the diamond in the ambulance. We will have to wait and see tonight's episode.

Miguel in SD--The first surgery was to stop the hemorrhaging in her gut and find the bullet. They were wheeling her out, conscious (yeah, laugh aloud sequence), and then I thought I heard someone say that she was going to undergo a second surgery on her heart????? Why move her....oh well, plot has moved forward and we can leave that little glitch behind.

I completely missed the photographer part. So is he still running around alive and free?

Aren't Catholic Church annulments allowed by the Church when one or the other partner is doing it for deception? Maybe that's how Reina can get out of hers, but with Javier, it was completely voluntary--or was it?

Funny to remember the deception trick was used in Cuando me Enamoro and it was the self-same Juan Soler that was doing the tricking.

Anita- Thanks. So the second diamond is floating around out there somewhere? Possibly in the ambulance?

The wedding of Victor and Reina immediately reminded me of CME, when Juan married another innocent woman under false pretense in a church: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fv5onsgzRAI

I'm ashamed to admit that I've lost track of the four diamonds:

The 2 that were in the safe deposit box in the bank were stolen by Estefi's fake Reina. These were the diamonds she had on her at the wedding. Now one is just out there (I thought it fell on the street rather than in the ambulance, but I'll have to take another look.) Reina has the other one that fell out of the blood wedding dress given to her at the hospital.

Does Victor still have the one that he stole from Estefi after SHE stole it before the auction?

And WHO has the 4th one?

NM--We THOUGHT the 4th diamond was the one that was to be auctioned off and Victor wanted it (and got it off Stefi). Dang, you will force me to go back and READ all the recaps. Thank goodness for the Find button.

Victor has two diamonds- the one he had before, plus the one he stole from Stefi after she stole it from the auction. Now Reina has one of hers back (that Stefi had in the dress), and it seems the other one is rolling around somewhere. I really wish I hadn't stepped away from the tv.

The two Stefi had were stolen from Reina (her safety deposit box), who blackmailed Big O to get them.

Prior to last night- Victor had 2 red diamonds: both of which he got from Estefi, one after she stole it from the pre-auction display and one that she bought from middle eastern guy and gave to Vic with the crown to save Greta.

As you said, Estefi got Reina's two diamonds from the safe deposit box. I know that Navier saw the diamond on the floor of the ambulance so I feel pretty certain he has it and it isn't lost. So presumabley the new configuration is Vic: 2; Reina ! and Navier !.

that should be: Reina 1 and Navier 1.

there is also a fake diamond that Victor had made,
and there could be more, ha!

They lost me with that wedding photographer stuff, so I let it roll off my brain. Now I wish I had paid better attention... or was the story somewhat chopped up ad confusing to everyone? Oh well, I'll do the pear half floating in red jello thing.....

Reina can still get an annulment based on the marriage was never consummated. Well, the Catholic Church will annul a marriage that has produced seven children if the church is given enough money. Bless their hearts.

Now I wonder .... if Javier and Stefy never "do it" again since before the weddings, would the church annul the marriage based on not being consummated? Would the church care they did it often, before the wedding? I resigned from the Catholic church back in 1977, so I don't know what the church's current stance is, these days.

Thank you Anita, Vivi, Jean and Deb! Good for you! With all the back and forth stealing of red diamonds, I was befuddled.

So then it is only the Queen of Diamonds who has NONE? Interesting.

And yes, Deb, there are fakes floating around, but by now all our principals are experts -- even Reina carries a jeweler's loupe in her purse, I think.

Oh Doris, I don't think we need to be worried about laws, religious or civil. (The writers surely aren't.)

I'm glad Jean raised the photographer issue. I thought it was another thing I had just forgotten. Snip snip snip...

I'm looking forward to the fallout from "soy tu mama" tonight.

Me too, Doris!

Hey, you are all right about the diamond falling out in the ambulance:

Javier: Can you go faster? She's bleeding out! (Se está sangrando).

Cut to red diamond falling from Estefi's body on the stretcher and onto the floor -- as if she's bleeding diamonds!

Which reminds me ... When Stefy was fighting for her life on the OR table, that scene with her dressed up in her QoD outfit, including crown, was a bit OTT; a major eye roll moment.

I've reviewed Weeks 1-4 and this is the score:

Red Diamond #1: Victor 0 – Stefi 1
Red Diamond #2: It’s still on display, but Victor, Stefi and Big O all want it.
Royal Crown: Victor 1 – Stefi 0

They change hands several times after that and the fake ones get thrown in the mix, but we DO learn that Octavio had the other 2 and put them in Reina's safety deposit box, which Stefi deftly stole. I'll keep gleaning.

Ok Guys here is recap. Sorry I could not come up with any cute funny headings! This morning threw me all off! Feel free to add or correct. Thanks!!

Lunes Part 1

Victor tells Izzy to watch over his brother. The wedding will be the perfect time for someone to kill him. He doesn’t want anything to happen to him. Izzy wonders if he is beginning to feel brotherly love toward him. Don’t be stupid! If Navier dies, we all go to jail! You included. Victor than calls out, “ Bon Bon are you ready?” A scantily clad woman in a robe comes out . Victor starts to caress her-“Bon Bon I have something very special for you!” She gets on the bed and he hovers over her-stroking her leg. Izzy is still there watching! Victor gives him a look and Izzy leaves. Victor goes back to his business.

Navier and Esmith are at the computer. They are discussing a photographer (Did I miss something?) The photographer was from the Rainbow Company-Estfey hired him. She was the one who gave the information to police. The CIA is now running a joint investigation. The company confirmed that they sent him. They see a picture of the photographer-that is not the photographer that the Dragon saw. A Dragon’s memory is NEVER wrong! They have to find this photographer!

Back at the De Rosa Mansion, Connie wakes up a sleeping Reina. She couldn’t sleep all night-he is a delinquent. Who told you Reina asks? Clearly Reina thinks she is speaking about Navier but she is talking about Izzy. After some words of confusion, Connie clarifies that she is talking about Izzy. Connie then goes on about what happened to their dreams, specifically the men they dreamed of!

Cut to Greta and Laz. Greta is doubting Laz. Laz is still lying to Greta He tells her that his bruises are from some thugs who jumped him.

Cut to FELS and his ex. She is telling him how she almost got robbed after the race. FELS doesn’t understand why she would want to race. Because she is surrounded by so much darkness and this gives her light! It’s my weakness-what’s yours? FELS gets a text-the party’s photographer was kidnapped and never made the party. He has to find out who the imposter was-he was the magician’s accomplice. So is she ever going to find out his weakness? No!

Esmith tells Navier that Reina is coming to see her mother. He s leaving because he got a very important call.

Navier is then seen in a parking lot(?)I'm here-where are you Boris? A man comes out pointing a gun at another guy. I’m here with the man who warned you that I was going to kill you. My name is Geraldo (last name I can’t pronounce) He is the brother of someone Navier killed. If Navier shoots, he will shoot too, pointing his gun at the other guy.

Estefy is telling Lopez about the imposter. She wants answers!! She needs to know who is trying to kill Navier. She needs to get married today!

Navier tells Geraldo to let him go. I was the one who killed him. That’s not true. My brother and I worked for your father and we gave it all for him. You are the one that should have died and the one that will die. BUT one cannot shoot a dragon that easily! They both shoot at each other but it’s our dragon that gets him. Guy falls down. Navier is going to call 911. The other guy tells him to kill him. The dying man tells him that esto no se vay quedar asi. “ This won’t stay like this.” Boris leaves and I guess Navier is NOT calling 911?

Lunes Part 2

Reina visits Asuncion. The Dr and Esmith are listening in to their conversation. Asuncion tells Reina that she told her the truth the night before Reina’s wedding to Victor. She wanted to free her from him. But Reina had told her that she couldn’t escape from him-she was threatened. She thinks it was due to Clarita. Asuncion tells Reina how when she first came to the house with Clarita she questioned whether Victor was the father. Of course he is the father, Reina tells her. Asuncion mentions how her father forced her to leave. Again Reina can’t believe that a mother would be forced to abandon her child (didn’t we go through this already?). Reina’s father was everything to her. And she isn’t anything to her. The only reason Reina is there is because Clarita loves her. So she can come back to the mansion as Clarita grandma but not as her mother!

FELS announced to Esmith that Navier killed the would be assassin but he is getting married today in the church.

Estefy fells strong! Invincible! She can win death! She is a god! A Queen! And with her 2 diamonds she is going to defy the curse of the red diamonds. (Uh oh….)

FELS tells him that the fake photographer confessed that the would be assassin Navier killed was the one who hired him. FELS tells Navier that the assassin is a special one-no scruples. Navier gets up to leave because he has to get married. FELS reminds him that this is a marriage because that’s what he wants. A marriage you ordered me to do, the Dragon roars! Make no mistake- you are getting married because you haven’t given me one piece of intel on Estfey. FELS put him in his place!

Reina barges into Navier’s Room. Are you sure about getting married? Are you out of danger? Navier asks if she is worried about him getting married or getting killed? Reina says he is a criminal and bad person but she loves him. And always will. She kisses him passionately. She is there like an idiot begging him not to get married. She has a feeling that something is going to happen and she won’t be able to live without him. If he dies, she will die too. He doesn’t answer her so she says she has to leave. She has a wedding to go to-the love of my life is getting married. He is a worried Dragon.

Cut to Estefy getting out of the limo in a wedding dress. Victor is there –is he giving her away? Please don’t ruin this wedding for me! He promises not to ruin this dream for her. He dreamed of this-but getting married to him! But that was a long time ago. Can I kiss the bride? No Victor! Ok let me walk you down the aisle!

Everyone is in the church. Estefy is walking down the aisle. Priest is doing his thing. Reina looks sad.

Cut to De Rosa Mansion-Connie and Cristian are there. Connie goes on and on talking. Cristian tells her he got a job offer in NY. It’s a great opportunity but he wants to stay with her in Vegas if she agrees to marry her.

Esmith is with Asuncion. FELS barges in and tells her how an assassin is going to kill Navier at the church. Cut to the church and we see a sniper in the church with gun pointed at Navier. The wedding goes through and they are man and wife. Cut to sad Reina. The happy couple kiss. Reina sees the sniper and cries out. The sniper shoots and hits Estefy. Dragon pulls out his piece and starts shooting. Victor calls 911. Estefy says it was worth it if she saved him. He was hers, at least for an instant!

Lunes Part 3

FELS and Esmith are trying to reach Navier but can’t. FELS gets a call-the assassin killed Estefy!
Cristian turns off his phone so he can speak to Connie (worse police officer ever!!) He wants a family, a house, a dog, to celebrate Xmas! Marry me or I go to NY! She loves him but isn’t in love with him! She tried but can’t. Don’t stay for me! Reina than calls. She tells her about the incident at the church.

Navier and Estefy are in the ambulance. Apparently she is still alive. Navier tells them to drive faster-she is bleeding out. A red diamond falls to the ground. Any guesses as to where she was hiding that diamond?

Connie is trying to feed Clarita but she is being a brat-ok she is sick! Connie slips that Estefy was shot. Clarita now feels that nothing good happens at weddings (she is scarred for life!)

Everyone rushes into the hospital. Navier says he wants to be left alone and rushes off. Juanco and Laz of course try to find him.

FELS is upset because an assassin almost killed one of their best agents!

Victor tells Reina to change her face-he knows she is begging for Estefy to die. She is not like him! She didn’t wish her to die-only a miserable life-like the life she gave her! She calls him out and says he is masking his pain-he is really in love with Estefy and it hurts that his brother won her love.

Now welcome to Grey’s Anatomy! There is a lot of internal bleeding! We see a vision of Estefy in a queen of diamonds outfit! She is going on about how she has strong blood in her veins and she can take on anything. She is stronger than pain or destiny. She is the Queen of diamonds! That’s some good anesthesia!

Navier is on the phone saying it was bad to kill him but he had no other options. He hangs up and switches to the grieving husband. Reina shows up and tells him that she is relieved that it’s not him lying in the ER. She doesn’t like her but she didn’t ask for this. It should be him in that ER, Navier says. She loves you and for love you will do anything. Lie, kill.! A nurse hands Navier her bloody wedding dress. That was her dream. Navier tells Reina, but dreams aren’t for them-only nightmares.

Greta is upset-it was Estefy’s dream to marry Navier. She welcomed Greta into her home like she was her mother. Juanco tells Laz that someone should tell her. Yes but that’s not his place! She felt like she was her 2nd mother. Susana says she wasn’t like my 2nd mother….she was….interrupted by Victor who tells Greta that Estefy is a very strong woman who will be fine!

Navier gives Reina the wedding dress and tells her to find Lopez 2.0. She is here for whatever he needs. Esmith and FELS show up. Navier fills them in on her injuries and says her odds aren’t great. But we have had miracles.

Lunes Part 4

Connie is still taking care of Clarita. Clarita fever is making her spill her guts. She feverishly talks about Victor being a magician!

Esmith and Navier have a moment at the hospital. She is staying even though he doesn’t want to. Lopez 2.0 arrives and asks about Estefy’s belongings-she had some valuable belongings on her. Navier tells him she gave the dress to Reina. Lopez 2.0 looks worried-he needs all her stuff back!

Reina is on the phone with Connie. Something falls out of the bag-it’s a red diamond! Reina goes to grab it!

Estefy is being rolled out of the ER. Navier says some nice stuff to her. Then Greta approaches –Don’t leave me. I don’t know what my life would be without you. If something happens to you, I will die. Estefy who just had major surgery is somehow awake and says I love you daughter! What did you call me? Greta asks…..I AM YOUR MOTHER!!!!

Victor sees Reina on the ground. What happened? Nothing I tripped. Victor gets a call from Cristian. Victor tries to call Izzy but it goes right to voicemail. Victor leaves and Reina retrieves the diamond. Lopez 2.0 finds her and asks for Estefy’s belongings. Here it is-she hands him the dress! But keeps the diamond!

Yeah count me in on the confusion surrounding the wedding photographer, made me think that it had been edited. Sooo the CIA found out that the photographer was in cahoots with the magician to kill Javier? QTH does that have to do with anything?? If it's an important detail, hopefully they'll give more of an explanation. Thinking back on the episode of the civil service, there was an awareness of when photos were taken during the party. & like someone commented, pretty bad assassins if neither of them even took a shot at Javier.

I do wonder if Vic and Estefy die hand in hand, it would be fitting. When Reina was calling Victor out at the hospital about how he was truly feeling about Stefy's predicament, did she say he was in love with Stefy or just that he was jealous of Stefy's feelings for Javier?

Jean, I'm pretty sure I saw Izzy at the church. When Lopez was kicking the assassin, I think I saw him uselessly standing beside them holding a gun.

jlk

Caroline - thank you for the recap and the snark.

"Navier says he wants to be left alone and rushes off. Juanco and Laz of course try to find him. "
Another QTH? eye roller moment. Nav wants to be alone so the other two musketeers go to be with him? Yeesh...

Thank you Caroline! I was a little confused by the photographer scene too.

Thanks Caroline! So glad you found the recap when you went home.

"That’s some good anesthesia!" Haha! So true. :)

Thanks so much for setting the stage for tonight, Caroline! That WAS some good anesthesia!

How funny and sly of the writers to take the usual telenovela trope of the near-death experience and turn it on its head with the QUEEN!

This is NOT important, but in the parking lot shoot-out, that was Gerardo, The Belgian Waffler's brother (I think he was German) and the guy he was holding was Fiel Pony-Tail guy who shot him in the back of the head in Brussels. Pretty sure about that, but don't hold me to it.

Ooh, only 47 min. til RdC time.

Yes, Caroline, thank you. We got what we needed--a little Reina to spread the excitement.

You and the other recappers are consistently drawing major numbers of hits (over 400 last week) to Reina posts, out hitting the other night-time tns. (This is HITS on the post, not just the number of comments.)

Of course, we only post twice a week and not five times, but still, it's a record we can all be proud of. It reflects a high interest in Reina.

Thanks for the great recap, Caroline. So glad it didn't disappear. I've had that happen, too.

Like the good little Reinamaniac that I am, I went back and watched the Mexican broadcast versions of Friday's and Monday's episodes. It was a tough job but somebody had to do it. No cuts, no mention of the photographer in Friday's episode, where it logically would have been since FELS, Navier and Esmeeth were talking about it very early in Monday's episode. So if something was cut, it was cut from both.

jlk You are correct. Izzy was at the church. It was later at the hospital when Victor couldn't get him on the phone. So both Izzy and Lopez 2.0 are at the wedding and neither of these experienced bodyguards/killers thinks to look up at the gallery of the church. Right.

Having watched it again, it was also not clear that Navier saw the diamond in the ambulance. He is looking at Estefi but the diamond makes a big clunk when it hits the ground. I still think that he must have it otherwise there is one ambulance attendant who doesn't know what is in store for him.

Way to go Susana! Telling Greta the truth & defying Victor.

Although we did not have the credits on tonight's capitulo, it was not cut. I checked. I think the credits were cut for the extra long promo for Los Miserables.

Great recap, thanks Caroline!

I was surprised by the whole photographer thing as well. I now regret not having mentioned in my recap how Navier shoved him while he ran to look for Clara. It didn't seem important at the time so I left it out.

Thanks jean! I'm glad to hear tonights episode was not cut. I was afraid that it might have been since the opening credits were absent tonight.

I agree - Go Susana! I'm glad we did not have to go through Greta rejecting Estefi thinking that she abandoned her. We already have Navier, Reina, & Clara rejecting their mothers. One more character doing the same would have been too much. I would have screamed.

Tonight was so good. I love this show.

Many thanks, Caroline, for the great recap. So does Victor have a new "Bon Bon" to replace OBD? When he said “Bon Bon I have something very special for you!” the wording made me think he was about to kill her with his Injecto-Death thingee. I guess sometimes a cigar is just a cigar and "something special" is just, well, whatever.

Mauricio, I too was happy that Susanna told Greta about Estefi's feelings for her and that Estefi had been told that her baby had died. With Navier, Reina, and Clara pretty much rejecting their mothers, I too was NOT pleased at the prospect of Greta joining their ranks. Although I guess now she's pretty down on Susana. Hmmm....

Tuesday, part 1

Calladita te ves más bonita

Clara has been so unpleasant lately that it is a relief to find her asleep. Reina checks on her daughter and then takes Connie aside and shows her the diamond that fell out of Estefi's Estuff. Isn't that one of those $60 million babies? Is Reina going to turn it in to the police? No. It's one of the two that Estefi stole from her and she's going to keep it. And Connie can't tell anyone about it! Not anyone!

Connie, in turn, starts to tell Reina what Clara said while she was delirious with fever. Whoa! Not only does Reina already know that Victor is a magician, she knows he asked the other magician to make Clara disappear and then he KILLED the man. Reina talks enigmatically about keeping a secret and sacrificing her true love in order to protect her daughter.

Hospital Vignettes

Estefi's stretcher is moved away verrrrry slooooowwwly to the OR. Greta sits alone, stunned. Susana approaches her and asks if everything is ok.

[We will agree to say nothing about the incredibly ugly lace appliqué dresses worn by Susana and Reina for two straight episodes. Because that would be petty and unkind.]

Javier tells Juanjo that one of the brothers of the late German Rothstein (aka the Waffled Belgian) is the person behind the attempts on his life. When his first attempts failed, the Belgian confronted Javier himself. And failed. Then another hitman showed up, the guy in the church. [That didn't go so well for the Belgians either.]

While Juanjo is speculating about just how many Belgian brothers they should be expecting, Esmeeth and FELS-PELS arrive on the scene. FELS-PELS apologizes to Javier. He screwed up. After telling them that Dra. Moto is on the way, he leaves. Then Javier makes a cutting remark to Esmeeth about falling for the wrong person -- he's her boss and younger than she is -- and walks away.

Greta won't tell Lázaro why she's upset even though he says her silence is like a door slamming shut (portazo) in his face. When Laz walks away to get her some coffee, Victor approaches. "You loved (querer) her very much, didn't you?" he asks. Greta reproaches him for speaking of Estefi in the past and wonders if it would better for him if she died.

Jackie and Lázaro bump into each other in front of the nurses' station. Jackie explains she's a forensic pathologist. Laz says a friend of Greta's is in the hospital.

FELS-PELS sees Laz walking away and asks Jackie if she knows him. Only from moto races, she says. Until just now, she didn't even know his name. He gives her a heads-up: Lázaro Leiva is the boyfriend of Greta De Rosas.

Dra. Moto hands FELS-PELS her reports of the incident in the church and needles him: if Bolívar had been shot, FELS-PELS would be in trouble with Esmeeth. He glowers down at her from his absurd height.

Laz returns with Greta's coffee and she sends him off to look for Susana. Victor sniffs disdainfully at Laz. "So sickeningly sweet." (tan empalagoso). Greta tells Victor he'd better get used to having Laz around.

When Laz comes back with Susana, Greta tells all three that Estefi called her hija and said she was her mother. Victor scowls. "We're going to be absolutely sincere with you -- Estefanía is your mother."

A Study in Intimidation
López 2.0 comes calling on Reina (who is still, alas, wearing the blue lace horror). López seats himself without being invited, crosses his legs, laces his fingers, and sighs. "I want the red diamonds," he says. She plays dumb. He pulls out a gun and aims it at her, inches from her chest. "Either give me the diamonds or it all ends here, Reinita!"

[No theme song tonight. Drat!]

Reina doesn't know what he's talking about. She handed over all of Estefi's Estuff and didn't see any...diamonds, did he say?

Part 2

Left Holding the Bag
Connie is about to head home but she lingers with Izzy for a moment. She'd like to stay forever, she says, but they've had that conversation already. She walks away leaving her purse on the couch.

She realizes she has forgotten it and returns to find Izzy holding it. He thinks destiny doesn't want her to go.

¡Basta, López! -- or Reina Kicks Some A$$
Reina busts out some CIA moves. She grabs López's gun arm. A shot fires into the ceiling, startling Connie and Izzy back in the living room. Reina easily overpowers López, slamming his head on the desk.

Hospital Vignettes 2: It's like a soap opera around here!

Greta is interrogative: Why did Estefanía abandon her? Why didn't she raise her? Why did she wait 20 years to get close to her? Victor says only Estefi can answer those questions.

Susana is apologetic. She begs forgiveness for her silence. She was afraid Greta wouldn't love her if she knew. And it was only recently that she found out about Estefi.

Greta is accusatory. "You knew you weren't my mother and you never told me." Victor tells her not to treat Susana like that. She always loved Greta like a mother. Susana says she accepted Estefi and let her get close to Greta. She understood her pain. "Estefi didn't want to abandon you. Listen to her and understand her."

Victor is mendacious. He interrupts Susana with a little revisionist history. "Estefi abandoned you because she couldn't raise you." Susana shoots him a look of disbelief.

The paddles don't work through drapes, guys
The surgeon extracts a bullet from the gaping incision in Estefi's belly. Then she flatlines. They shock her. She doesn't respond.

Wallops and Warnings and Whips
Esmeeth tries to console FELS-PELS. Everyone is human, she says. Everyone makes mistakes. "Would you be saying that if it were your son who had been shot?" FELS-PELS learned his lesson from his father: A 9 isn't good enough; only a 10 will do. How did he teach him? The hard way. FELS-PELS learned early on in life that there was no room for error.

Lies, Damn Lies, and Susana
Victor tells Greta he never considered leaving Susana despite his romance with Estefi. "Why couldn't Estefi raise me?" asks Greta. "Because she wanted to be famous." Susana continues to stare at Victor but says nothing. He goes on: "So Susana and I decide to raise you."

Greta asks how Susana could tolerate the child of her husband's lover. Victor answers for her: "It just shows what a big heart Susana has. And thanks to that, we were able to form a happy family."

"A happy family?" repeats Greta with a bitter smile. "We're a family full of lies."

Could it get any worse? Oh yeah.
Javier is torturing himself for putting Estefi in harm's way. She took a bullet meant for him, he tells Laz and Juanjo. Laz goes off to check on Greta.

Enter the worst cop in Las Vegas, Christian Palacios, accompanied by two uniformed officers. He is there to arrest Javier for a double homicide. Javier can't believe what he's hearing. It was self-defense! Was Gerardo Rothstein's death self-defense too?

Javier is furious. Christian is obviously well-informed. So why didn't he DO SOMETHING to stop the bad guys? Maybe if he had done his job, Estefanía wouldn't be fighting for her life right now. Christian is unmoved. "Cuff him," he barks to his underlings.

Part 3

Reina Bluffs

Izzy and Connie rush into the study to find Reina pointing a gun at a baleful López. Izzy takes over. Reina hands him her gun and Izzy pushes López out of the room roughly. "You like to play baseball, López?" he asks.

Reina tells Connie to take the diamond. (Doesn't she know about the curse?)

Over Connie's protests -- it's so cold! -- Reina slips the red diamond into her friend's dress. Connie has to do it. She's Reina's only friend and nobody is going to suspect her. And the diamond is their only way out.

While López is trying to win Izzy over to his side, Reina joins the men in the kitchen. She repeats that she doesn't have the diamonds. In fact, Estefi robbed two diamonds from her, diamonds she had in a bank. Does López have anything to add?

Someone's Luck is About to Change

An EMT notices the big red stone under the stretcher. He picks it up, studies it, and then pockets it furtively.

Susana Kicks Some A$$
Greta has had all she can take. She asks Lázaro to take her to his house. Susana stops her. She can go wherever she likes, she says, but first she's going to hear the truth! Victor tries to cut Susana off: Be very careful about what you say! But Susana no longer cares what Victor thinks.

Susana begins: I always believed your mother had abandoned you.

Victor sounds a warning note: Shut up, Susana!

Susana ignores him: When you had the accident in the circus, I found out your father had lied to us.

Enough, Susana.

Greta overrules him: You shut up and let her talk!

Estefanía adored you, says Susana tearfully. But he stole you from her and made her believe you were dead. She wept for you for twenty years. She found out you were her daughter after your accident and life hung in the balance.

Suerte, Bolívar

Javier tells Christian he is arresting an innocent man and he's going to regret it. Esmeeth approaches and Christian greets her defiantly -- Javier will answer to the law no matter whose son he is. Now FELS-PELS joins the group and BACKS UP CHRISTIAN!!! If Javier is guilty, let him rot in jail, he says. "Good luck, Bolívar!" "Are you both nuts?" asks the gobsmacked Esmeeth.

As Javier is led away in handcuffs he practically spits in FELS-PELS's ... er ... armpit: "Prisoner? Never again, no matter what!" (caiga quien caiga)

And that's the truth...

Susana concludes: "Estefanía always loved you, darling." It's a lot for Greta to process. She asks Laz to take her home. As Laz guides Greta out, Juanjo whispers the news that Javier has been arrested.

Steam is coming out of Victor's ears by now. He grabs Susana by the throat, calls her a fool, and tells her she will pay dearly for what she just did. "Let go of her," says Juanjo. Victor ignores him at first, then loosens his grip on Susana and starts to walk away, but not before telling Juanjo to be very careful.

Warning: Parallel Ahead!

Clara is feeling much better now. Reina snuggles in bed next to her. Clara turns away. Reina says she'll always love her and be there for her even if Clara is angry, even if she doesn't want her there.

Someone knocks on the bedroom door. It's Asunción! Clara's face lights up. She rushes to give her a hug. Asunción tells Reina that she came back to be with them. She's the housekeeper again. They can count on her for anything. Clara's delight is contagious. Gracias, Asunción, says Reina. Bienvenida.

Part 4

The Dragon is Wasting his Breath
Christian is deaf to Javier's insistence that he is the victim, not the criminal. "Your millions and your contacts won't do you any good," says Christian nastily, leaving Javier in a holding cell.

Sarcasm -- it's what's for breakfast
Victor sarcastically welcomes Asunción back to the house. Then he announces sarcastically that he has no time for breakfast; he is going off to rescue his little brother from prison. Reina is startled by the news and hurries after him.

Guilty Until Proven Innocent
Victor and Reina are now in the office of the worst cop in Las Vegas, who apparently believes it is incumbent upon Javier to prove his innocence. Reina states the obvious: Javier killed the sniper in self-defense. It's complicated, says Christian.

Reina wants to see Javier. Christian says that she can't; but when Victor says that both of them want to visit the prisoner, Christian says he'll see what he can do.

When Christian steps out of the office, Victor uses the opportunity to threaten harm to Clara if Reina won't turn it down a notch with her defense of Javier.

A Tale of Two Diamonds

The EMT is using his diamond for a night of pleasure -- maybe it will buy him two girls.

While Connie is searching frantically for a place to hide her red diamond, someone knocks on the door. She tucks the diamond down her shirt and opens the door to Izzy. She tries to get rid of him, but he doesn't want to go. It takes about thirty seconds for them to start tearing off each other's clothes....scritccccccch. Connie remembers the diamond and stops the record just in time. Whew!

I guess the paddles DO work through drapes
Greta is at her bedside when Estefi awakens. "Greta?" "Here I am ... mom."

That Wascally Wabbit!
Christian leads Victor and Reina to Javier's cell and is chagrined to find one of his officers handcuffed and naked under the blanket on the cot. ¡Maldita sea! He escaped!

Javier, wearing a khaki uniform, makes his cautious way out of the police station.

Inside, Victor says everything he can to make things worse for Javier while pretending he's an honest man unwilling to call in favors.

Greta knows everything!
Greta tells Estefanía she knows they weren't allowed to be together. Estefi sobs and pulls off her oxygen mask. "This is what I've always dreamed of. It's a miracle!" She can die happy after hearing Greta call her mamá. Greta makes her promise to hang on to life and keep going.

¡Basta, Victor! Reina Kicks Some A$$ Part 2
Victor taunts Reina. He threatens to testify against Javier. If he does that, she says, she's prepared to testify against Victor. He's not worried. And by the way, he wants the diamonds that she stole from Estefi's Estuff. Reina knows Izzy searched her room and found nothing -- he really should hire more competent people -- but that's because she doesn't have the diamonds.

"You better make sure I don't find out otherwise," he says.

"You know what?" answers Reina. "I'm not afraid of you. On the contrary -- the more you threaten me, the more I feel like talking. If I talked...maybe with a little luck, I'd be free of your presence forever."

Victor smirks and talks in a low bwahahaha voice: "Even when you're dead, you won't be free of my presence."

Thanks Caroline for Monday's recap! I had to tune in and out throughout the episode so your recap filled in the details and tied it all together.

When he said “Bon Bon I have something very special for you!” the wording made me think he was about to kill her with his Injecto-Death thingee. I guess sometimes a cigar is just a cigar and "something special" is just, well, whatever Thought the same thing, this tn definitely makes you look at everything with squinty eyes.

NovelaMaven, excellent recap! My favorite line was As Javier is led away in handcuffs he practically spits in FELS-PELS's ... er ... armpit HA! Although he let the police take Javier away, I'm guessing that he'll try to covertly spring him out of jail, if only for la rubia.

Also glad we skipped over Greta's angst & we see her readily accept Stefy as her mom. I know that Vic doesn't coddle, but talk about getting right to the point. & Yay, Susanna grew a backbone!

I wish that Juanjo had punched Victor, or at least shoved him away. All those months with Javier & he doesn't learn any dragon moves?

That EMT doesn't look very smart, so don't have high hopes for his life expentancy. Almost feel sorry for the poor guy when I think of everyone who is going to be after him for the diamond. & now that Connie has the other diamond, don't think it'll be long before someone finds that out.

No theme song tonight! I was ready to sing along when they cut me off....

jlk

Wonderful recap, NovelaMaven, with lots of useful detail, delightful snark, and some helpful Spanish. I too loved your "armpit" line.

Jean, I liked your theory about Victor's having set up Navier's arrest to get him out of the way without killing him. But what's up with FELS/PELS response? He may not have felt he wanted to pull rank on Christian publicly, but why cheer him on? Just to bug Esmeeth and Navier? Yeah, I guess that's in keeping with his often enigmatic personality.

Loved the recap, thanks NovelaMaven!

I loved the armpit line as well.

The poor EMT. He's doomed. There is no chance for him to survive. The question is - who will get the diamond he has in his posession?

I was worried that Izzy would see the diamond hidden in Connie's shirt. Good thing she remembered and stopped him when she did. She needs to find a good hiding place for it.

I wish JJ would have punched or at least shoved Victor too.

It loved seeing Reina fight back when Lopez 2.0 had that gun pointed at her. I also loved seeing Reina standing up to Victor at the end.

NovelaMaven – thank you for the recap and the snark. (I noticed the hour you posted it and hope it didn’t cause loss of sleep.) My personal favs in the ‘cap are:
”Hospital Vignettes 2: It's like a soap opera around here!” (LOL)
and
”That Wascally Wabbit!”
and
”Estefi's Estuff” (more LOL)

Can Connie really keep the red diamond a secret? Isn’t there a telenovela rule that someone who is told to keep a secret will ultimately ‘out’ that secret? Motormouth Connie really worries me.

ITA about those awful lace dresses worn by Susana and Reina. Que horror! But then, nobody’s dress should look better than the bride’s, no? That’s my CrackpotTheory™.

I’m still confused over exactly why TWCILV has arrested & charged Javier with murder. I wondered, too, if Victor set it up. As for PFELS, I still do not trust this guy or his motives.

These moments when Reina 2.0 is fed up, bold, brave, and stands up to Victor are wonderful. Too bad it all goes to waste the moment Victor reminds her of his threat toward her Achilles Heel: Clarita.

One thing I forgot to mention in my earlier message: I cringed when Reina gave the red diamond to Connie and told her not to tell anyone. Yeah, right! What's the likelihood that motormouth Connie will tell no one?

Great episode, great recap, great snark NovelaMaven!!

I particularly liked:

Victor and Reina are now in the office of the worst cop in Las Vegas, who apparently believes it is incumbent upon Javier to prove his innocence

and

As Javier is led away in handcuffs he practically spits in FELS-PELS's ... er ... armpit...

I totally agree about Reina's and Susana's dresses. For some reason I didn't notice for quite a while that the skirt of Reina's dress flared out at the bottom. Then there were those weird flesh-colored patches like the markings on a cow. Truly hideous.

I honestly don't seen how Estefi could have concealed even one, much less two, giant red diamonds among her boobs in her wedding dress.

Any bets that the ambulance driver won't be dead soon?

There's got to be something going on with Christián arresting Navier and FELS' reaction. Christián didn't arrest Victor for killing the three guys who kidnapped Navier. Could Victor have set this up to get rid of Navier in a way other than killing him?

As for FELS, I guess most people still aren't supposed to know that Navier works for the CIA so FELS could hardly order Christián to release him right then and there.

Perfect recap, NovelaMaven! I also chuckled at the armpit line. :)

I also think PFELS' agreement with stupid cop Cristian was more about maintaining Navier's cover than anything else. You'd think that Navier would first assume that too.

We've now had PFELS's dad mentioned. Like all the other fathers in this show (other than Laz) he was a mean son of a gun. Mean, manipulative fathers, and mothers who have either been intimidated into submission by these men, or banished from their children's lives if they don't obey, fill this show.

LOVED Reina putting the hurt on Lopez 2.0, who is a pathetic hitman. I wish we could see bada** Reina more often. I didn't get too excited about her defiant stance with Victor at the end because she always folds easily with him when Clara is mentioned.

Connie, the diamond, and the secret...my hopes aren't really high. But she might surprise us.

I was cheering Susana finally standing up to Vic. I guess she won't have that job at Camilla anymore. I couldn't believe Juanjo wasn't more forceful about making Vic let her go!

Thanks NovelaMaven! I haven't gotten to see the episode yet, but I did see the dresses you are talking about. You are always so classy. I would have been petty. LOL.

terrific recap NovelaMaven!

Estefi's Estuff, haha!

poor Greta, she calls Estefi mom, who then goes into "I can now die happy",
and looks like she will.

another sign the Dragon is slipping, he didn't see and recover the diamond.

I love it when Reina goes into Dragona mode.

I really couldn't muster much sympathy for Stefi with the Greta situation, when through her own actions she is helping to keep Navier from his own child, and didn't give a fig about Victor separating Clara from Reina all those months, getting her to hate Reina, and didn't even bat an eye when Vic made Clara disappear at the wedding. Had she shown any concern about this over the last many episodes, I would have been pulling for her during the Greta reveal this episode. But I would have been perfectly fine with Greta hating her. I am not ok with Greta having an attitude with Susana. She should respect her even more for loving her the way she did, despite Vic just dropping his lover's baby in her lap all those years ago.

Vivi - You are soooo right.
I don't find Greta to be a sympathetic character, at all. She has her nice smiley moments with Laz, but the rest of the time she is a spoiled brat. She has both her father's and her mother's DNA running in her, for sure. Yikes.

The camera never showed us Reina's dress below the hips, before last night. Even I was surprised by the bottom portion of it. Maybe that's why the camera stayed away from it as much as possible?

With all the flesh mesh, Reina's and Susana's dresses looked more like figure skater's costumes.

My, my, here we are with another NovelaMaven confection. Tastes perfect to me. Goes well with dinner, lunch or breakfast (or tea time).

So many of your "Word Perfect" phrases are instant classics, but the best one to date is the one everyone is quoting: As Javier is led away in handcuffs he practically spits in FELS-PELS's...er...armpit..

It is sidebar worthy, but no one would understand why unless it was known that our Tall Mysterious FELS-PELS is 6'2" and the rest of the cast are Munchkins in comparison. He towers over everyone, except the late lamented Rocky.

We also know (from the Casino episode) that FELS-PELS father is dead. Bad, but dead. It's tough to be a son or daughter on this show.

So, for Greta's sake, Stefi should survive, but if she does, she'll just go back to her old ways and disappoint her daughter (see above remark).

Did anyone else think Javier's escape was just plain lucky?

The minute FELS backed up Cristian, I thought maybe jail was the safest place for Javier to be--even if he is the hands of TWCILV. FELS can always spring him later. Javier was a bit hot under the collar and probably needed to cool down a bit.

Then when I saw Javier out walking with the guard's uniform on, I thought, gee, he was lucky the guard actually entered his cell, lucky the uniform looked like a regular officer's uniform, lucky it fit so nicely, down to his undershirt! The poor hog-tied guard was stripped of it as well.

It was interesting to note Asuncion's fully healed wrist slashes when she returned one day later. Didn't even need a Band-Aid.

I wonder if continuity cut the surgery into two for some reason. I thought the first surgery was to stop the hemorrhaging and remove the bullet, but I saw the bullet come clinking out of the second surgery. So, her out of body sequence was for heart surgery? That's much more delicate than abdominal surgery (not that I know anything about priority of internal organs needing surgery), but to stop the internal bleeding sounded more urgent. Oh, well, it's just a novela.

All in all, excellent episode, excellently recapped.

I enjoyed all the comments about Motormouth and the Red Diamond. I can't believe Izzy didn't feel it poking when he hugged her through her thin blouse, but as said before, it's just a novela.

We can't expect perfection, even when we are SO CLOSE to perfection. (Only FELS expects perfection in himself and others.)

"It was interesting to note Asuncion's fully healed wrist slashes when she returned one day later. Didn't even need a Band-Aid"

I did not notice that, BUT,,,,,
I did notice Esmeeth bouncing back to work so quickly after being stabbed in the shoulder. First, she goes to sleep on that shoulder (the 1st night home from hospital when PFELS was with her). Next, she was wearing that evening gown to Javier's wedding that bared enough shoulder that there was no visible Band-Aid.
The wedding had to have been 'semanas despues' or else the continuity team messed up.

Vivi and Doris- re the Greta/Steffi/Susana situation (and Greta's personality), ITA.

Penny

NovelMaven-the bit about the armpit was one of many inventive, hilarious moments in this recap. I need to read it again just for the laughs!

Penny

Doris - I don't think there is a problem with continuity or that the wedding was semanas despues. In my experience, people on novelas invariably get shot, stabbed, beaten up or suffer other misfortune but are completely recovered without scars in a day or so. I remember on Corazón Valiente how we used to laugh when character after character was "muy grave" or "entre la vida y la muerte" and the next day we would see them coming home from the hospital fully cured. You may need a beanie adjustment ;-)

Anita My guess is that Estefi's surgery was divided into two parts so that Greta could be told that Estefi was her mother and then be there when Estefi woke up after the second surgery to say the words that Estefi has waited to hear her whole life, "Here I am, Mom."

Jean - I'm tightening my beanie right now. ;-)

I need two beanies when authentication is required.

None at all where FELS-PELS is involved. I've been loving the occasions when he spits out A-jé-nte Smeeth, or Bolivar or whoever when he wants them to Hop-to-It. It sounds like he's getting ready to clear his throat, in an endearing way, of course.

OOOO! Doris, now that you've mentioned it, Reina's and Susanna's dresses did look like figure skating costumes!

I'm watching now and I've meant to ask this before, but is it just me or does FELS - PELS always seem to be wearing a coat that's too small for him?

Ha ha, he IS always unbuttoning it. Maybe he has to breathe.

They seem too short and he can't seem to be able to move his arms.

Sara- I love the new pic avatar! We get to see your lovely smile and I love the glasses too.

Anita said: "Ha ha, he IS always unbuttoning it. Maybe he has to breathe." Perhaps Telemundo's wardrobe department has only one or two suits, and they're both meant for people considerably shorter than FELS/PELS. Perhaps if we got a look at the bottom of his trousers, we'd see that they were up by his calves. Or perhaps knees.

What an episode. Can't wait to see what Jean does with it. We definitely want a blow-by-blow of what happens in the Antiquarian Shoppe.

Thank you for the nice
words about Tuesday's recap guys!

I love the way the story is bouncing along, even if there is a certain choppiness to these episodes. We may be seeing what they saw in Mexico, but I doubt we're seeing what the writers originally envisioned. Even so, as our Resident Wise Woman Anita reminds us, only FELS-PELS expects perfection.

As for the Tall Man With the Small, Short Jackets, I have two theories:

1. Given the show's limited budget, they recycled the wardrobe of Andres Hidalgo (Estefi's late stepson).

2. They made out like bandits at a garage sale at Alexis Ayala's place.

Actually I like Juanita's idea best of all:

"Perhaps Telemundo's wardrobe department has only one or two suits, and they're both meant for people considerably shorter than FELS/PELS. Perhaps if we got a look at the bottom of his trousers, we'd see that they were up by his calves. Or perhaps knees."

And Juanita's theory paints such a hilarious picture, too!!! I nearly spewed coffee on my computer!

I just finished watching last night's episode and I confess I FFd through the Connie scenes. She's wearing thin on me.

Can't wait to read the recap.

PS: Thanks, Vivi!

Miércoles – Parte Uno

No scenes from yesterday...

Hospital
Estefi is so happy that Greta calls her mama. FELS comes in says that he needs to talk to Estefi. Greta says that she is in no condition to give a statement. Estefi says that she doesn't remember anything. Flashback to shooting.

Can you hear me now?” I’m with the phone police
Navier stops a car and asks a woman for her documents and her phone. He uses the phone to call Juanjo just as he opens his door to two enormous guys who proceed to beat the cr*p out of him without saying a word and leave him unconscious.

Police Station
Christián is with Victor and Reina telling them about Navier's escape. In a flashback we see How It Was Done: Navier calls for the guard, pretends to be ill and then attacks the guard, knocks him out and takes his clothes. Christian calls this “muy habil,” “very clever,” but it is the oldest trick in the book at least on TV. Christián tells Vic and Reina that they have an operation underway to capture Navier and that he is going to go to prison for a long time. Victor tells Christián to please have mercy and not let anything happen to Navier.

Hospital – Is that you, Navier, fugitive from the law?
Susana tells Laz that she is afraid of what Victor might do to her for telling Greta the truth about her bio mom. Laz gets a call. It's Navier. Laz foolishly says Navier’s name aloud. FELS is standing nearby and hears. Laz hastily hangs up. Navier gives the woman back her phone.

Convenience Store - I don’t need no stinkin’ papers
Navier goes to a convenience store. He sees a news program about Estefi being shot on her wedding day. At least they aren’t showing his picture as a wanted criminal. From the public phone in the store, he calls someone and asks for help. He leaves the convenience store and is immediately confronted by a real cop who asks for his documents. Navier puts his grocery bags on top of the police car, attacks and knocks out two cops, steals their police car and their guns but loses his groceries.

CIA Headquarters – We may have to rethink this cheeep thing
Esmeeth is furious with FELS. He asks what she expected him to do? He couldn't break Navier's cover but of course he is going to help him. Esmeeth says that her son can't be in jail. “It appears that your son agrees with you – he has escaped,” replies FELS. Esmeeth wasn't told about this on FELS' orders. She asks about his cheeep. FELS replies that Navier took it out and threw it away. FELS hopes that Navier contacts one of them.

Reina's old house
Connie comes over and finds Juanjo unconscious on the floor. Laz comes over. He says that they didn't break any bones. They believe that Victor sent the goons. Laz is angry that Juanjo is still keeping things from him. There's a knock at the door. It's Susana come to see the patient. Laz leaves. Susana says that this is her fault. JJ is ok with being beaten up if it brings Susana closer to him. He doesn't want to let her go ever again. She makes him some soup that is clearly horrible but Juanjo eats it. He says that he would have made a better husband than Victor deRosas. “¿Marido?” says Susana surprised but it gets her to put the soup bowl down.

Miércoles – Parte Dos

DeRosas Mansion
The Worst Cop in Las Vegas is having coffee with Victor and Reina. He updates them on how Navier added to his crimes by stealing the police car and overpowering and disarming two police officers. Reina defends Navier. Christián warns them not to get in contact with Navier – their phones are bugged. He leaves. Victor is nasty to Asunción and Reina defends her. Vic says that he doesn't understand Reina – she loves a man who humiliated and rejected her and she forgives a mother who abandoned her when she was a child. But she has no time for him – a man who is head over heels in love with her.

Alone in the kitchen, Reina tells Asunción not to use the formal usted with her. Asunción urges Reina to be strong if she really loves Navier. “With all my heart,” says Reina. Reina asks Asunción about the man that she left her family for. Asunción says that he could send her over the moon with his touch but he was married as was she. She says that he was an arms trafficker known as El Coyote. But it ended tragically when he was killed in a massacre that one of his children survived by pretending to be a doll. She didn't want to know more because loving this guy was the beginning of her end. Reina takes her hand and says that she understands. Sometimes she feels that way about Javier. Reina looks at her watch and says, “Es hora.”

Hospital – This is no way to start a marriage
Estefi tells López 2.0 that she wants her diamonds back. López replies that he is sure that Reina has them. Etefi says that his life depends on getting them back. Estefi asks why Navier hasn't been there. López tells her that Navier was arrested for murder but not to worry, he's not in jail – he's a fugitive (“profugo”).

CIA Headquarters – How many times do I have to tell you that I make the bad decisions here
FELS gives Esmeeth's Navier cheeeep as a keepsake. He wants to know if Navier has called her. Esmeeth replies that he has not called but she wouldn't tell him if he did call. Esmeeth says that she still can't forgive FELS for what he did. Frustrated, FELS asks Esmeeth how he can make her understand that if he had disclosed Navier's identity to Christián, Christián might have told Victor and the whole mission would have gone down the drain. What does he have to do to make her understand? “Simple. Find my son and keep him safe,” replies Esmeeth unprofessionally and leaves while Dr. Moto comes in. She tells FELS that there is an another Belgian waffle assasin looking for Navier in addition to the police and the CIA. She wonders who will find him first.

Navier's hideout - When the Dragon needs help, he calls… ¿his suegra? (mother in law)
Navier is hiding out in a place full of old furniture that looks like Old Nimoy’s place. Reina appears but dressed in Asuncion’s clothes and with her hair pulled back. Navier says that he didn't think she would come.

No credits....[I watched this online before it was broadcast and I don't remember any cuts]

Reina tells Navier that Asunción couldn't come but they followed his instructions. In a flashback, we see Asunción telling Reina about getting the call from Navier. Reina tells Navier that they drugged Victor's dessert, Reina dressed up like Asunción and escaped from the house. “Perfecto,” says Javier. Reina asks if he wasn't afraid that she would call the police. It's what she should have done after he betrayed her. “If only I could explain,” starts Navier. Reina begs him to explain why he betrayed her and married Estefi. Navier tells her to leave what she brought for him and go. Reina replies that there's no risk - Victor is asleep and the guards don't suspect anything. She says that she needs to understand.

Miércoles – Parte Tres

Hospital – That cursed love
Estefi tells Greta that she had dreams of being happy with Navier and Greta. Greta assures her that her dreams will come true. Estefi tells Greta that she has two mamas – Susana and her. Greta tells Estefi that what Victor did was undpardonable. She doesn't understand how she can be near him. Estefi replies that she and Victor have always had a strange relationship. They hurt each other but never seem to be able to sever their ties. “Could it be love?” asks Greta. “Un amor maldito,” “A cursed loved,” replies Estefi” and passes out. Greta calls for help.

Navier's hideout - I guess the CIA didn’t brief Navier on what they found out from Asunción
Reina wants to know why Navier betrayed her and why he married Estefi. He still isn’t going to tell her that he is a CIA agent so once again he goes through how much he owes Estefi and that Reina doesn't know the real Estefi. Reina replies that she knows that Estefi did a lot for him when he was in prison while she supposedly... Navier says that they will never know what she did because she lost her memory. Esmeeth told him that Reina didn't betray him but she won't tell him what else knows. Reina hopes that maybe someday Esmeeeth will tell him everything. Navier says that a terrible thing happened to Estefi when was a child that scarred her for life. He tells Reina about how Esetfi survived the massacre of her family. “That’s funny,”says Reina, “Asunción just told me that her lover was El Coyote, who was killed in a similar massacre.” “El Coyote?” says Navier, impactado, “your mother was the lover of Estefi's father?”

Prostitute's place - Hey prostitute, you’re supposed to have sex with me, not with the big red diamond
A madam tells Ambulance guy that once again he is pretending to be rich. He can't afford one of her girls much less two and then she sees the giant red diamond he is holding. He thinks it might be worth a month’s worth of her girls. The madam is mesmerized by the stone. Finally she says that he can have sex with her. She taught her girls everything they know.

DeRosas Mansion - No, some other hired goons did that, not my hired goons
Izzy texts Victor to say that he has confirmed that Reina does not have the two red diamonds. He's looked everywhere. Connie come in, slaps Isidro and says, “con mi gente, no,” “not with my people.” and accuses him of sending the goons to attack Juanjo. Izzy denies any involvement but Connie isn’t buying. She slaps him again and tells him that she hates him and he'd better get used to seeing her with someone else because that is what is going to happen.

Uh oh –Victor skipped dessert
Asunción goes into Vic’s room and finds him gone. She should have drugged his flask. She tries to call Reina but she is otherwise occupied. Vic is in his car, reloading the Injecto-Death 300™, looking at a picture of Reina, hitting the flask and putting on gloves. He goes into a florist’s shop, tells a woman who sort of looks like Reina, that tonight she will be his Reina, his wife. That is why he asked her to meet him tonight, [is this the bonboncito we saw earlier?] and wear this dress. She asks if he is going to have sex with her here. He replies that she will die of pleasure tonight. Somehow he manages to put Reina's cross on her wearing heavy gloves then he kills her with the ID-3000, lays her out on the counter puts a lily on her. “They say that dead bodies talk,” he says, “I hope you have a lot to say.” [I assume that he is framing Navier for this crime by using the cross.]

Miércoles – Parte Cuatro

I need money, food and a new identity but I’ll take sex
Navier notices that Reina is not wearing her cross. He believes that they are close to solving this puzzle. Reina replies that he would make a good detective. He is her Sherlock Holmes. Does he want to know why she risked everything to come? She is in love with him, desperately in love with him. It doesn't matter that he betrayed her, married someone else and is a diamond trafficker. Navier replies that he loves the Reina de Corazones, too. Clothes come off – dragon tattoo [DRINK] Sex on the floor. [What’s this? A new song for Reina and Navier? Raise your hands if you think they have just made a baby that Navier will believe is Vic’s.]

Reina and Navier are dressing post sex. He says that she is sexy even in Asunción's clothes [that's an easy lift]. Reina says that she has to get back. Victor could wake up any time. She gives him the money she brought and asks what he will do. Navier says that he doesn't know. Navier tells Reina that he isn’t going back to prison and be deprived of light and air again. He will die first. He says that she has to go back. Her daughter is waiting for her. Someday he will see her again. Reina says that could be a long time, even years, but every morning she will think that day has come. She says that he has to remember that she will be waiting for him forever. She leaves.

CIA Headquarters – Belgium is a small country but there are a lot of unemployed hitmen there
Christián is with FELS and Esmeeth. He says that the police are working with the CIA to find Navier. He also says that he has been in contact with the Belgian authorities about some questionable activities of Navier there. [Kind of out of your jurisdiction, isn't it, Christián? You aren't doing such a great job on crimes right here in Las Vegas.] Esmeeth says that she will prove that Navier is innocent. Christián questions why she is present considering her relationshp to Navier. Esmeeth replies that she doesn't mix work and pleasure. [Ha!] Christián leaves. FELS tells Esmeeth that besides the CIA and the police, another assassin is looking for Navier and if he fails, there will be another and another...

Navier's hideout – Caught by the Belgian wafflers and the police but where is the CIA?
Said hitman has found Navier and says that he had better show himself or Reina will die. Navier and the hitman point guns at each other. Then they hear the sound of the police loud hailer. “You're surrounded. Come out with your hands up!” Caras de confución de todos.

Jean - Thank you for the recap and the snark. My fav: section title:
"I need money, food and a new identity but I’ll take sex" LOL

Javier needs to go into the Witness Protection Program. Now. Gah!

That store looked like Little Shop of Horrors to me except there were more chandeliers or lighting or something.

I failed to notice the different music during the Reina/Javier nookie scene. (argh!) I'll bet you are right, that this time a baby was made. Unless she is on the pill. Hopefully by now, she is!

The writers have not forgotten that Estefy had a brother. My Crockpot Theory™ is that he will be some guy we have not yet met.

Jean, that recap was definitely a 10!
Thank you!

These deadpan lines in particular cracked me up:

"She makes him some soup that is clearly horrible but Juanjo eats it. He says that he would have made a better husband than Victor deRosas. “¿Marido?” says Susana surprised but it gets her to put the soup bowl down."

And my favorite heading:
"CIA Headquarters – How many times do I have to tell you that I make the bad decisions here"

I didn't notice the music change in The Little Shop of Horrors. I'll have to go back and give a listen.

Victor has been unremittingly evil for the last few episodes. In the past, he had his moments of humanity. Not lately.

And Estefi -- still not out of danger, just snared the obsession of her life in a church wedding and has finally recovered her daughter -- and she's still hollering for her diamonds and threatening to kill Lopez 2.0 if he doesn't get them back for her. Sheesh.

Jean--I echo NovelaMaven and raise it another 10.

Besides the two headings already mentioned, this is the one I liked: CIA Headquarters – Belgium is a small country but there are a lot of unemployed hitmen there.

They sure stretched out the scene with Cold, calculating, perverted serial killer that Victor is preparing for his next victim. Of course we were all supposed to think it was going to be Reina.

Forget about the diamonds, all you officers of the law--you have a serial killer loose in Las Vegas. Call in CSI, Criminal Minds, go interview Hannibal, do Something to stop him!

That latest bonbon (and I thought she was the same one, too) did not deserve to die--at least not before she had sex with him...I *think* that's what she wanted. Ack.

Oh, drat! I had three favorite headings, and the three commenters before me have already mentioned all three. Oh well.... Actually, I have a question about another heading: "Navier's hideout - When the Dragon needs help, he calls… ¿his suegra?" Navier called Asuncion, didn't he? And though Reina would love it if Asuncion were Navier's suegra, she's not (yet). (Or is there a Crockpot Theory™ that I've forgotten about the relationship between Asuncion and Estefi?)

Anyway, it was a stellar recap, Jean. I loved it. Many thanks.

Juanita You're right, Asunción is not Navier's official suegra but I have often seen the parents of one's prospective spouse be called suegro/ra before there is any marriage or even an engagement. Unlike Juanjo or Laz, whom Navier couldn't reach, he presumably called Asunción not because of his relationship with her but because of his relationship with Reina. It was rather bizarre. Doesn't he have any contacts with his loyal diamond trafficking business associates?

Jean and Juanita--

Yes, *suegra* went right by me as a naturally occurring label, because I've heard it used universally--in telenovelas. Don't know how true it is in real life nowadays.

With so many couples not getting married and living together, I guess you have to call your partner's parents something, so suegra or suegro is good.

We don't have anything so simple in the US, not even for the official suegros. It's so unwieldy to have to say mother-in-law each time. Writing with abbreviations, MIL, has solved this, but mentally, we are still saying the full word.

I like Spanish!

wow, what a terrifc recap,
thanks so much Jean!

ah yes, the Dragon is so smooth,
"may I see your license, registration, and cell phone please".

and something about that that shop keeps bringing people with flashlights back.

and will the dead talk,
that was an interesting pose Victor left the girl in,
showing the death mark and the necklace,
was this for Reina?

You recappers make the show sooo much fun. Thanks much for it

Jean, that was SUCH an excellent recap. And I definitely needed it. I had a DVR nightmare last night and could not record Reina for the first half hour. There was something else that did NOT have any repeat showings and there was the Wild Card game with my San Francisco Giants and the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Joy...Joy...Joy!! I definitely felt sorry for the Pittsburgh fans, but over the moon about the Giants who have been somewhat erratic lately. But our ace, Madison Bumgarner, a 23-year-old phenom pitched the full 9 innings and the shut-out.

Jean, I also loved How many times do I have to tell you that I make the bad decisions here.

Yep, Spanish is good with names for relatives. The one I wish I could use in my family doesn't work because I'm the only Spanish speaker. It's consuegra, so much easier to say than the mother of my daughter-in-law!

Wow, Juan Soler was the very essence of evil last night. He had the poor bon-bon (can't tell if she was the same woman as the earlier bon-bon) wear a wig to look like Reina. He told her he was going to do to her what he had wanted to do to his wife for a long time. I assumed this meant sex, but there wasn't any. Only murder.

I like the word "consuegra", which I learned while watching Amor Real. It's light years easier to say than the English version.

So - one more thing - especially since I didn't see the whole episode.

Are we just to assume Victor knew Reina was off having hot sex with Navier? And that was why he was in a murderous mood? Or did they show him finding out somehow?

Thanks, Jean and others, for your responses to my question about "suegra." I hadn't heard the term used more broadly; thanks for letting me know.

I have two more questions, both having to do with Asunción: perhaps I was simply not paying attention, but I was surprised that Reina's attitude toward Asunción seemed to have softened quite a bit. Just a day or so ago, she was VERY cold toward her. What accounts for the change?

Also, how did Victor know not to eat the calmante-laden dessert Asunción made?

Thanks, all. Novelera First, congrats on the Giants' win. I was happy to see that this morning.
Back to Reina, Victor doesn't know or at least he hasn't indicated that he knows that Reina was off having wild sex in the Little Shop of Horrors or the place of Flashlights - I like that, Deb. I think Victor was just indulging his desire to murder people and to increase the count of crimes his brother has supposedly committed. Unlike the shooting in the Church and that of the Belgian waffle assassin, killing the woman in the florist shop is 1st degree murder, which probably carries the death penalty in New Mexico. [I'm not going to look it up. It doesn't matter anyway.] So Vic should be careful that he doesn't let his revenge plan go too far.

Juanita The way I heard Asunción tell it, Victor did eat dessert. Maybe they didn't give him enough of the calmante and Victor dozed off after dinner, then woke up and went off to commit murder. Maybe Victor is like Navier, who, when he got poisoned, was able to use his steely will to prevent the sedatives he was injected with from taking effect.

Jean- This was an excellent recap. I can't wait to actually see the epi. Loved all the section headings too. :)

Looks like this episode left more questions than answers. At least Susana and Juanjo look closer to reuniting.

OK, I guess Victor's plan IS to try to frame Navier - because of the cross (or is it a religious medal - forgot?) he put on the bon-bon.

But why in the world would anyone think he murdered a woman he didn't even know. The only evidence against him that I can see is that he broke out of jail and was at large to have done it - just like the other 596,000 people who live in Las Vegas.

novelera - I interpreted the dead woman + the cross as a message to Reina.

Crackpot Theory Alert!!!

FELS-PELS really IS Estefi's long lost brother!

Okay, okay, I'm sure several people have proposed this idea or at least toyed with it. But last night, FELS-PELS and Estefi had a moment, a connection...something happened. There was human warmth in that hospital room -- I'm gonna go ahead and say it: El Llamado de la Sangre!

Doris: Aha! I guess I picked up from someone's comment or from the recap that the consensus was Victor was trying to frame Navier.

A message to Reina makes more sense to me. And how the heck did he get that cross off her neck without her knowing it?

Remember that we are dealing with Christián as the forces of law enforcement here, the worst cop in Las Vegas. Victor might be trying to convince Reina that Navier is a psychopathic murderer but I believe he is also trying to pin the crime on Navier.

NovelaMavenI didn't see any llamado de la sangre last night but I was recapping and distracted. I will check it out!!

Someone asked how Victor managed to get the cross away from Reina...

I'm rewatching right now and WE CAN SEE HIM DO IT at about 15 minutes into the show. He's bemoaning the fact that she has forgiven Javier and Asuncion but rejects him, her loving husband. We see her wearing the cross. He leans in to nuzzle/kiss her. When he moves back, the cross is gone. MAGIC!

Jean If you watch again, check out the BELGIAN GIANT and Juanjo's ineffectual attempts to fend him off. Also -- check out Connie's psychedelic PANTS!

NovelaMaven
I watched again and I will grant you a faint llamado. FELS smiled at Estefi and was kind to Greta in a way that is certainly unusual for him.

I did see Juanjo try and hit the Belgian giant but I missed Connie's pants. Wowzers! They hurt they eyes.

Oh and I saw Vic take the cross. He is a magician. Clever, clever!

And Estefi smiled back, Jean, and in a way that didn't say "Come up and see me some time, Big Boy"

What brilliant headers Jean! Thank you for the recap!

About the song in The Little Shop of Horrors --

It's Te Esperaré, but not the verse we usually hear. It's the ... um ... recitativo part, you know... Here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rX1jybhufbE

Javier is absolutely bullet-proof. I laughed so hard when he beat up the cops who had very obligingly lined up to have the tar kicked out of them, and then stole their car with his groceries on top. Wonder what food he buys in a gas station to maintain that glorious physique... imagining it is not my road-trip usual of Snickers, Doritos and a Diet Coke.
I think it is indeed possible that Reina and Estefenia are half-sisters. When we saw the flashback ages ago of El Coyote and his wife being killed, little girl Stefania looked to be about 7 or 8? Asuncion could have unknowingly been pregnant with Reina at the time..?

It's too late to read all the comments since Consuegra before 8 and comment, but unless it hasn't been mentioned, it seems to me that the term is used BETWEEN mothers-in-law. Of course that's if they see each other a lot and like each other. I don't know what they would call each other if they don't like each other.

Just checked my ancient print dictionary.

Consuegro -a: term of address used reciprocally by the parents of a married couple.

(Sometimes I leap before I look, but this time it was ok.)

I'm putting up the new page now!!!
Sorry I almost forgot.
