La Gata #10 9/12/14 La Separación

I'm going to have to make this short and sweet. My laptop was acting up earlier this week, so I pulled out my old one and now that one is acting up. I just want to get this up and hope the laptop doesn't explode while I'm at it.  I'm really sorry about all the issues I seem to have.
  • Not-so-Ernesto (thanks, Susanlynn!) threatens Albecinia (or whatever her name is.) If she keeps advising Esme on how to avoid his pervy attentions, he's going to send her to the archives. He thinks she's jealous of the young hotties.
  • Pablo is cute, but dumb. He actually has the nerve to ask Monica to help him convince his parents to let him be with Emse. Bless his heart. Monica refuses.
  • Lorenza continues to try to impose her will on Pablo and calls him a mal hijo. She tells him again it's family or Esme.
  • Esme does indeed get fired after the jealous wife catches not-so-Ernesto making the moves on our feline heroine. Poor thing! She was completely innocent!
  • Pablo and Virginia talk about Esme and Carlos. How did these two end up so nice???
  • Emeralda wants Damian's help in registering for school.
  • Play date. Our love birds are thrilled to see each other again after the time apart. They decide to carve their names in the tree. Emse tells Pablo about the perv at work. He wants to kick some shins. She convinces him not to. Lines about him wanting to work and she deserving the best.
  • Other prisoners comment about El Silencioso. He never talks (OOOOOH! That's why they call him that.) He goes to see the director. How refreshing, he doesn't talk vengeance. He's been thinking about their earlier conversation when the director suggested his daughter might be alive. He wants to investigate that possibility.
  • Ines kvetches about her life. She wants a rich guy to take care of her. Rita says Ines was made to study (Rita is clueless.) Outside we hear Fela singing (was she off key? It didn't sound so great to me....but I can't sing so I guess I should just shut my mouth.) Rita hears it and it freaks her out. She knows that voice! She goes outside and yells at Fela, but Fela has her back to her and Rita never sees her face. Doña Mecha comes out and sticks up for Fela.
  •  El Silencioso ponders the idea that his daughter is alive.
  • Pablo and Esme=Sonny and Cher=Then put your little hand in mine/there ain't no hill or mountain we can't climb/babe/I got you babe
  • Mr. and Mrs. Lorenza discuss how to break up those two crazy kids. She wants him to convince Pablo to finish his studies in the US (Recapper's observation: Lorenza's accessories were stunning tonight.)
  • Mr Lorenza tells Pablo he's all for him marrying Esme. Mr. Lorenza will use his contacts to help Pablo find work.
  • Esme visits Fela. Fela mentions that the man she loved was a marquis. Esme mentions her dad was a marquis. No one bats an eye. Seriously. How many marquis-es are running around Mexico? Esme loves talking to Fela. She seems to understand her...when she's lucid.
  • None of Pablo's job leads pan out...thanks to Mr. Lorenza pulling strings.
  • Damian got Esme signed up for the primaria. She has plans to finish the Secundaria, prepa and then on to University so she can be a lawyer and help people.
  • Pablo finally brings Esme some food. Fruit and sammiches (sanwichitos ...sammichitos?) They talk about finding work.
  • Lorenza and Virginia head for a doctor's appointment. Seems she has the possibility of getting her sight back. At a red light, Virginia hears Carrrrlos hawking his chicles and calls out to him. Lorenza shoos him away and picks a fight with Virginia....and ends up slapping her when she tells her mother that she won't be able to stop Pablo from marrying Esme. Anvils, Lorenza. Anvils.
  • Esme talks about Rita and the Italiano. Pablo wants to keep looking for work so Esme won't hae to keep fighting the Pervy Pervs and there Parade of Perv.
  • Lorenza apologizes for slapping Virginia. Virginia tries to convince her mother Esme is buena. Lorenza will have none of it...and if Virginia starts talking like she's going to go down the same love path as Pablo, Lorenza just might lose her sh!t  (perder los estribos) again.
  • Neither Pablo nor Esme can find work. Eventually he gets a gig selling Encyclopedias. (Funniest event of the night. I'm still giggling.)
  • OH I take that back...the funniest part was when he got mugged and they stole all his encyclopedias. I am not making this up. No surprise, this was set up by Mr. Lorenza.
  • Rita continues to nag about El Italiano.
  • Apparently, Pablo has been driven to desperate measures. He will be going to the US to work/finish school. Esme cries.
Avances
  • Esme cries
  • Rita predicts
  • Mr Lorenza wants to make Esme disappear!

Gracias, Sara! I hope you didn't have anything blow up on you. I wish your machines would recognize the importance of your work and just flippin' behave!

Really Pablo...really? This is what you call "trying everything"? I was convinced that woman in the red dress was going to meet him the next day to receive her encyclopedia delivery wearing Saran Wrap. And I knew I should have been suspicious when the Encyclopedia Muggers didn't take his car.

I feel ya on Lorenza's accessories. That necklace with the huge green stones was goooooorgeous. As gorgeous as her behavior was hideous. What she and Mr. Lorenza are doing to Pablo is pretty bad, but to slap Virgina and then basically threaten to do it again, or worse, if she keeps talking social justice...can we have a guillotine? Is that too old-school?

Yeah, Fela was totally off-key, but she's got a gorgeous, clear tone. So we now have a variety of signs that yes, she's really Esme's mother, but no official confirmation. I wonder why they're saving that.

Sara, thanks for soldiering through your computer issues.

So our true-hearted galan y su gata are trying to weather the forces of eviiiil that are conspiring against them. Didn't Gaviota try selling encyclopedias in Destilando Amor? They need to find some other humble part of the city and start afresh without their families.

Speaking of family, Fela almost has a red neon arrow over her head, saying "mama de la gata."

Thank you so muck Sara---NOOOO!
No computer problems are allowed
during La Gata. Pray to the computer god.

The scene where Pablo and Esme were carving their names in the tree was soooo sweet.
Sonny and Cher's I Got You Babe was perfect Sara. I never would have thought of that but it fits
perfectly.

5ft.---Believe it or not I did notice Lorenza's green stone necklace. My eyes went right to it
I often notice things of quality.
The stones were beautiful.

So Pablo sets out to sell encyclopedias. Selling encyclopedias in a computer world?
If you are poor or strapped for money, you're not in the market for encyclopedias and if you are somewhat well off, you have a computer and have no need for an encyclopedia.

5ft.---You are so right. Steel the books and leave the car. What?

So Pablo is on a plane out of Dodge. I wonder for how long the separation will be?

I don't know but I suspect that Virginia will be a big help to Pablo in the future and it's in the cards---it must be that Esme and Virginia will become besties.
the gringo

Steal---sorry
the gringo

Thank you Sara! It is so frustrating laboring under the swinging anvil of computer issues. Great recap though.

I couldn't figure out about the encyclopedia muggers either, kept wondering why they didn't just steal the car. Was watching and doing laundry, always makes for problems.

Is this the first epi where we did not have a Principe sighting? Kitty, kitty? Maybe I missed it.

Lawdy, Sara

Sonny & Cher and I got you babe on a "play date", ding frigging ding, ding, ding.

Boy, sensitive pretty boy is not good for much and rolled over easy. He would be babbling in a fetal position if he missed a meal and a hot shower. He is so unworthy of baby kitty.

Lorenza - keep on and I'll dot that other i

Mr. Lorenza - wrecking lives, I'm good at

Virginia - you can't beat the good outta me

Mrs. C - congratulations you won the prize

Pablo - maybe I should have taken that job selling 8-track tapes

Monica - if I wasn't bitter, I am now

Fela - the dump is alive with the sound of music

Rita - so what, I once rode in a Grand Marqui

Esmeralda - is this gift basket from Harry & David

El Silencioso - motor mouth

Sara – Muchas gracias. So sorry about your computer problems and hope they can be resolved without too much trouble. My favorite: Other prisoners comment about El Silencioso. He never talks (OOOOOH! That's why they call him that.)

Rita seemed frightened by Fela’s singing to me and her voice wasn't that bad to me. I get the feeling that Rita betrayed Fela somehow and is afraid of revenge if she’s back in the barranca. I can just picture Rita back in the day selling out Fela for 30 pieces of silver.

tofie, Pablo - maybe I should have taken that job selling 8-track tapes cracked me up.

Tofie---Thanks for a Saturday morning laugh.
Well yes, if Pablo can sell out of date encyclopedias, why not try
8 tracks too?
Esmeralda---Is that a fruit basket from Harry & David? LOL It did look like it.
Virginia---You can't beat the good out of me. That's so true Tofie, it ain't gonna happen.
The hills--no the dump is alive with the sound of music. Tofie, you're incredible.

No one in their right mind would be out trying to sell encyclopedias in this day in age.
Octavio got the name/title one cell because of his lack of brain power, can Pablo be far behind?

It sure is looking like there is a dark secret between Rita and Fela. This could get interesting.
the gringo

Tofie@11:00 am "Boy, sensitive pretty boy is not good for much and rolled over easy. He would be babbling in a fetal position if he missed a meal and a hot shower. He is so unworthy of baby kitty."

It's so early in the show yet "Here we go again"!! Just change the names and this sounds like a cut and paste of daily snark you made about the lead couple in the last novela.
jess sayin

jess sayin, I'd much prefer you state your opinion about the show than try to get an other commenter to stop stating theirs. That way, it stays comfortable for everyone, including you, to just say what they think without fear that everyone's going to jump on them for having a different opinion.

We've occasionally had commenters who insisted on starting every comment with things like "I know this is going to be unpopular" or "You guys are going to hate me for saying this" but if you hang around even just for a couple of days, you'll see that's not necessary. Love the show uncritically, pick it apart mercilessly...it's all fair game, and no one's going to attack anyone else as a person for it.

So, please do join us! I'm sure you have your own thoughts about the show and they'd be a welcome addition to the conversation.

tofie..."Rita - so what, I once rode in a Grand Marqui" bonus points if she was listening to a song by Biz Markie while she did it!

I bet Rita has a loooot of secrets. Gata brought up a chest that she said she knows has information about her in it. I wonder what it is. Damian got her registered for school somehow--wouldn't that mean he needed her birth certificate or a copy? Wouldn't Esme's father's name be on it?

Thank you Kat.

@La Diva 04:59, I admit that you are right about not saying negative things about other peoples comments. Even if you find someone else's comment irritating, whose problem is it really? Certainly not theirs. With that in mind, I'll have to practice the "do unto others .... rule" and take a chill pill.
jess sayin

Thanks for the early reviews. I'm glad that the short work over wasn't too disappointing. I may have not made it clear in the recap, but the robbers didn't take the car because it was a set up by Mr. Lorenza. I'm sure he didn't want HIS property harmed. And I guess by taking the encyclopedias, Pablo is left having to pay for them which puts him in an even tighter bind.

Lorenza with her slapping and Rita with her hair grabbing are just vile. Death is too good for them. Flaming anvils of disfigurement, I say!

Oh and Kat: I had the same thought about the lady wanting more than just encyclopedias!

gringo- I really hope Esme and Virginia become besties!!

La Paloma-I completely agree. Fela *has* to be the long lost mom!

J in Oregon-Omigosh! You're right! I don't think there was a Principe sighting.

And I have to admit (and this is because I'm watching Marimar on Hulu) that I want Principe to have a voice. And I want there to be a lady cat at the mansion that Principe can get busy with and I want kittens.

tofie-"The dump is alive with the sound of music." I've been laughing all day!!!!

Niecie-I agree. Rita knows so much more. Somehow I think she's in cahoots with Mr and Mrs Lorenza. Maybe there was a third party go between though. Like gringo, I think there is something more to this story.

jess sayin': I have to echo Kat's words
"That way, it stays comfortable for everyone, including you, to just say what they think without fear that everyone's going to jump on them for having a different opinion."

I have been here since 2010 and it is perhaps the only place on the internet that has consistently stayed civil and I think that has a lot to do with keeping the snark limited to the content of the shows and not the content of the comments.

We are all aware that opinions vary and we respect them. If someone says something negative about a show, that's ok. We don't take it personally. Believe me when I tell you that I know how it feels to love a show that annoys a lot of people. I think gringo will agree with me. ;-)

Just saw your comment jess sayin. I'm glad you undestand. I really hope you stick around and add your voice to the conversation! The more comments the merrier!!

Thanks s much, Sara.

Gee...2014 and he is selling encyclopedias....really ?? I thought it was very funny when his customer seemed more interested in the salesman than the product , and it was a riot watching those guys in ski masks hauling off those very valuable ..very heavy encyclopedias.

Well, I need the Silent One to get a haircut and get out of jail.

tofie..I loved your zingers.. It is hard to pick a favorite, but I think it was the Harry and David line. I always appreciate the laughs you give us.

Sweet but addled Fela is such a contrast to cranky, controlling Rita and Lorenza. I guess sometimes ignorance is bliss. By the way, has anyone kept track of how many clothing changes Lorenza makes in a day ? I think that it is supposed to underscore her enormous wardrobe as compared to poor Miss Kitty's Lorenza does have an extensive collection of BIG necklaces.

Hmm..concerning the Harry and David gift basket...do you think that Pablo read our comments about bringing Esme some food from the mansion's overflowing pantry?

I haven't noticed Lorenza's clothing changes, but you can bet I will from now on! I mean I've noticed her costuming (which I really love) but I'll watch even more now.

Add me to the team that's wondering why Pablo hasn't been bringing sandwiches, chips, snack cakes, something to Esme every time he comes to see her. He has to know she doesn't eat regularly. Oh yeah and Pablo: why not shell out for some Fancy Feast, dude?
J in Oregon

Pablo could forget raiding the pantry at home, save his movie money, and take Esmeralda to Costco.

Yes, jess...join us...we have virtual margaritas!

Susanlynn, I was wondering, since the pardon is a done deal, why the director didn't suggest a little spruce for Silencioso to get him ready. I think it's about time!

j and tofie, I vote for a giant pallet of Fancy Feast. If he took her to Costco she'd give everything away. This, she wouldn't turn down, since it's not for her, it's for Principe! And Rita wouldn't be able to appropriate it for herself...at least, I hope she wouldn't!

Why is Pablo going to New York? I'm not understanding his logic about how this is supposed to play into his overall plan.

Tofie---What about Peter, Paul and Mary--I'm leavin' on a jet plane, don't know when I'll be back again. Oh I hate to see you go.

Yes Sara---The gringo has sure been down that road. I am grateful that I wasn't attacked for being a lone wolf.

J in Oregon---So, so funny. Yes, a
can or two of Fancy Feast for Principe would be nice.
the gringo

Awesome and appropriate song big g. We got us a musical. I got you babe and leaving on a jet plane

Guessing Pablo realized it not so easy to get a paying job. His plan to get married, make a buck and go to school flopped no thanks to Unhappy Slappy & Pappy. In a corner, an option presented to wrap up his studies quickly (perhaps a job offer once complete), but happens to be in NY.

And this is when Fela sings "Leaving on a Jet plane" as Rita lays down a card and hums along, Lorenza dances a happy little jig and baby kitty shivers & cries. Pabloooooo, don't gooooooo.

Love it Tofie, You said it much better than I could.
the gringo

Sara, sorry to hear about your computer problems. These things intimidate the heck out of me. But it didn't interfere with you giving a great account of the episode.

Wonder what Mr. Lorenza has in store for Esme? Whatever it is, she will rise to top of the troubled waters like the cork in a fine bottle of wine.

I liked everybody's songs and the suggestion to turn it into a musical. Along this line, will Esme look back at her time in the dump fondly and sing the Mexican equivalent of; I wanna go back to my little grass shack in Kealakekua Hawai?

I couldn't believe that Pablo can't see through his Dad's manipulations. Wish he would have just tried to get a job on his own.

Thanks again, Sara, I enjoyed your recap a lot, as well as the comments.

David

David---Your song is great too. Yes it looks like we have a musical going on here.
the gringo

I was just thinking that Principe
could be part of the musical also
Remember the cat on TV that used to meow for Meow Mix?
the gringo

Kat..Hmmm..I don't know. Rita seems to appropriate anything she can get her greedy, wrinkled , little hands on, and I can actually see her enjoying a little Fancy Feast on a cracker. When Rita is grabbing stuff, I am put in mind of a toddler's constant refrain .."MINE !!! "

tofie, thanks. I missed that the program in NY would get him out of school faster.

Though, I still want to kick him in the shins...does he think it's going to be any easier to get a job with his degree if the excuse everyone is giving him is that they just plain don't have any openings or have just had to let people go because business is slow?

meow, meow, meow, meow,
meow, meow, meow, meow, ....

Susanlynn, I fear you're right! And if she didn't want to eat it herself, she'd just sell it to someone else. Why Principe doesn't chew up her shoes is beyond me. I guess he's just too much of a gentleman.

Kat, you didn't miss the NY reasoning, that was my musing.

Stray Cat Strut for our boy Principe

...old maybe "Alley Cat". Perhaps Pablo should have sung "Splish Splash I Was Takin' a Bath" to Miss Kitty when he was trying to tutor her in basic hygiene. He could have changed it a little ......Splish Splash, I think that you should take a bath.

Thanks Sara!

I laughed when Pablo tried to get a job as a cook. When I first saw him with the chef I thought "ok what is he doing there? there is no way he get a job in his field there" then I realized what job he was there for.

How about that Esmeralda - begging that woman to give her a job. Whatever happened to that job interview Damian had gotten for her?

And speaking about Damian, when he was a kid he was clean and now that he is an adult he is all dirty. How does he expect to get a job as a lawyer looking like that when he graduates?

Did you all notice the look on the chauffeur's face when Lorenza slapped Virginia? Then when Lorenza apologized we see that the chauffeur had been asked to get out of the car.

It baffles me why Monica moved in with Lorenza just because her parents are away. What??? She's not allowed to stay home alone???

Susanlynn---Splish splash I think that you should take a bath. You guys are so funny.

I have forgotten. Did Damian come from the rich side or the poor side?
the gringo

Damian is poor. He lives at the dump with Mercedes the woman who raised him. He is studying to be a lawyer. But he walks around all dirty with ripped up clothes. I can't believe they would allow him to attend class looking like that. I know he's poor and all but come on take a shower and fix your clothes (your adoptive mother knows how to sew for goodness sake) if you are serious about being a lawyer.

Maybe he has a nice set of school clothes that get laundered regularly and these are his "hanging around at home" clothes? I have a hard time imagining that his classmates are super nice to the guy who looks like he just walked in after working on his car...every single day.

I hope he does 5ft and I hope he showers before class. If not I'd hate to sit next to him in class. Am I right in saying that Doña Mercedes sews clothes as living or does she do laundry? I'm not clear as to what she does for a living.

I think it's laundry, but just considering her age, I would guess that she can do minor repairs like fixing buttons or sewing up tears. Things that would be easy to do by hand. I would be surprised if she owned a sewing machine.

Thanks Mauricio---Somehow I keep forgetting about this guy.

I don't think that there are showers anywhere in the dump. A washcloth a small amount of water and soap? Yes, I can see that.
the gringo

I am loving the musical suggestions!

I can't wait for tonight!

thank you all so much for translating it to English ,wish someone add more translations what exactly they said, we don't understand Spanish ,but have an idea whats going on...I translate it to my co-workers,we are always looking forward,on this novela, although we are ahead,in you tube and dailymotion ..but still go to this site to understand more better the stories..we love the smoochies of esme and Pablo..looks soo real..we only want la gata.. thanks again

Hi Rosa, please let us know if there are sections where you need more info and someone is bound to be able to tell you!

Anon Tuesday at 2:02, thanks for the enthusiasm. The recap went up about 4 minutes after your post. I hope you've seen it by now!

Because I want to make sure you know we're not just ignoring you when you ask for "more" or "faster," here are some things to keep in mind: There are only 2 of us working on these, which means more days per person, which means more chances of that pesky thing called life getting in the way. Recaps take as long as they take, just depending on the individual recapper and the level of detail they go into. And they are "recaps"--a little summary, a litle description, a little humor, etc. Sometimes a recapper may give you word-for-word in sections, but not the whole thing. Otherwise it would be a transcript and that's just not what we do here (plus, transcripts take FOREVER...have you ever tried transcribing something without all the special equipment? I don't wish that on anybody!). I am in Arizona, which means that right now the show airs 3 hours later than it does on the East coast, at 6pm local time. It's pretty much guaranteed that anything that takes me out of the house in the evening will have me leaving before or during the airing of the show and not getting back home until after 10pm...that's 1am Eastern. Getting it done and posted at close to 11 last night was near-miraculous! It actually would have been fair game for me to do it early this morning instead. As long as we're getting recaps up before the next episode airs, we're technically "on time." We make efforts to do it as early as possible because we love talking about the show as much as you do.
