Que Pobres Tan Ricos: #165 and #166: 8/24/14: El Grand Fin

Buona Sera Alla Tutti! It's the Grand Fin! I enjoyed recapping this TN so much, it has been a fun ride. We are doing this Grand Fin in three parts. Marta has the first part, I have the middle and Julie as the last part. I want to thank Jane our Blog Mom for all her fantastic recaps, Ezra for his unique point of view, Marta for all the help she gave me when I missed something and her very marvelous recaps and Julie for all the help she gave me too and all the funny recaps and fantastic recaps  , and I 'd also like to thank all the commenters that commented throughtout this TN. Shall we begin? Marta  Starts Us Out.

With tears in her eyes Vilma makes her statement: Since he took over the presidency when Mati could not anymore, (because Alejo himself gave her medication that made her confused). He used the Editorial to launder money that came from his other felonies and criminal associations…  (DA asks her if she has evidence, since she was the one suspected guilty of those felonies) She says but of course, there is a notebook full of numeric codes of all his overseas accounts… encoded codes from his criminal associates, information about his relationship with those criminals… which I can perfectly decipher/decode…

(Saul interrupts to say he has the notebook with him. But the DA says let her finish her testimony).  Vilma finishes her testimony saying it was A-hole who killed cold blooded Adolfo Giron… DA again asks her if she has evidence… Vilma says if you compare the first bullet that Mr Giron received with the ones from when the same A-hole shot himself.. there… there, where he shot himself… (DA wants to know where LOL!) she just repeats… there, Mr Judge, there, down below (en los bajos)…  If you compare the bullets surely you will be able to compare them.
At Editorial offices…
RPs are still in Board room with the clause reading…
The lawyer says there is more to the letter… A-hole asks ‘what more could there be? That my grandpa wanted us to live in a cave like wild natives?’ Lawyer has to wake up Don Telio who has taken a nap…
Grandpa Aureliano: With that 5%, it is enough for all the relatives to live a life… if not full of luxury… very dignified indeed… (we see Aureliano looking at MA’s photo frame)… We leave you our blessing… and a treasure of experience we would have loved to have to enjoy better our sons lives.   With all my love, receive an embrace from your granddad Aureliano (back to board room, MA is smiling very contented).
A-hole wants to get the clause letter invalidated… it is clear he was not in his right mind…
Lawyer argues it is impossible to invalidate it. You as the heir have to fulfill it any which way.
Lupe takes Emi out of the room before things get more heated… MA starts mocking A-hole with some winking… (quiobo … = ‘que hubo?!’ )
Back to Isela and Mini… Isela keeps claiming she innocently just made a purchase transaction. Mini wants her to deny she spent her last penny on this purchase. Isela says yes, she did.   Isela says she still has one more Ace under her sleeve, her last card… Mini runs after her asking her not to do another crazy thing.
At Fonda… Rita, Nepo, DA and Gwendy… they are excited the festival is almost here… DA had called for this meeting, he has decided… he wants to go with Rita to the US for a while.
Back at board room… MA tells his mom and siblings he wants to do everything that grandpa asked for in the clause… AS grunts a protest. A-hole stands up and starts yelling at Aureliano’s painting… darn old hag… you always treated me like a rag (con la punta del pie)… I took it all from you, I fulfilled your stupid clause and you come up with this trick on me…  MA, Frida and Leo argue that it was a horrible taste comment. MA clarifies to A-hole he is ranting at a painting… Leo wants more respetuki for the memory of my grandpa please… A-hole calls them family of ‘vultures’… and then they all start acting like vultures… they are enjoying it, all of them except AS. She calls MA close and asks him not to act on impulse, to calm down and evaluate the situation… MA finds it funny that she wants to ‘evaluate’ … The board old guys take their exit while MA keeps having fun with AS’s request to evaluate…
DA and Rita are now alone at Fonda. DA tells Nepo he will come back for his wedding. Nepo says he wants DA to take the opportunity to get to know the world. Even if he (Nepo) never got the chance.  Gwendy is also happy DA will take that trip.  They all have a group hug.  Trofeo comes in and wants to be in the hug. Gwendy and Rita both push him away so he gets in between Nepo and DA for the hug.
Isela is yelling and slapping around looking for A-hole.
Lupe asks Emi if he wants to wait for A-hole then they will wait, but she thinks we (Lupe and Emi) should go back home to the Fonda.  Emi is not sure. Chuy asks if he does not like the barrio.  Emi says his dad asked him to wait here.   A-hole arrives and asks them what they are all doing here.  Lupe wants to talk to A-hole so she sends everyone else outside to wait for her.  Lupe and A-hole go to his office.  Lupe says I did my part. Now you have to let me go and give me the full custody of Emiliano.
Isela runs into the board room and finds all of the RPs… (except Da Vinci)… She shouts she is looking for A-hole.  AS tells her almost in same shouting tone that she has nothing to do here anymore, she is no longer a stockowner.  Isela accuses AS of having spent most of her time hating her… the feeling is mutual.   AS announces to Isela that MA was the one that bought her stock… Isela asks if it was a vile trick. AS calls it marketing strategies… so go away…   BYE!!!!... the security guy comes to get Isela… and Mini fights him too so he is being beat up by both… the RP’s enjoy the show.
The Menchacas are outside the glass door and Emi is inside, he has to go to the bathroom.  Perla again is talking about selling the tickets for he crowning… Tizoc whistles to the receptionist.  Chuy and Carm sit down on couch at reception to wait.
MA has to yell at the security guy to let Isela and Mini go.   MA tells Isela that there was no trick, she wanted to sell her stock and he bought it.   Isela claims she will pull the last ace under her sleeve.  Mini yells at her not to.   Mini asks Isela not to talk about Dona Mati.  MA then asks what do you know about my grandma?  Mini tells MA that Isela heard that A-hole killed your grandma… (MA looks like he just lost life itself).
Lupe keeps arguing that if it went well or bad for A-hole with the clause, that is not her problem, that he should fulfill what he promised and leave her and Emiliano in peace finally.   A-hole claims that she should know by now that Emi is not just business for him… that he does indeed love his son… so from now on Emiliano will stay with him.
MA asks Mini what they know. Mini tells him that Dinorah the nurse helped A-hole find some meds and then gave them to Mati.  MA runs out, Isela calls Mini stupid and threatens to slap the sense out of her, and Isela and Mini stay there fighting with slapping their hands at each other…
Lupe: You don’t love anyone. You are not the example Emiliano needs to be a good man.
Ah: And according to you, who will educate him well? MA??  Look, I will only tell you one thing.. Don’t put me to the test as a father, because I already told you, if anyone matters to me in life truly, it is Emiliano.
Lupe: Sure! That is why you accepted to leave us in peace and give me the custody as soon as you had the money for the clause! (the door is slightly opened, and Emiliano is hearing the rest of this argument)
Ah: The one that wants the custody to leave in peace with MA is you. That is why you asked me to disappear from your life, and Emiliano’s.
Lupe: And when you accepted, were you thinking about Emiliano? Because you did not care whether Emiliano was going to miss you or not.. All you wanted was your inheritance and nothing else!!
We see Perla nervously looking for Emiliano… then she tells CHuy and Carm she can’t find Emiliano. They get concerned, so does Tizoc.  She was distracted selling her tickets.   Carm is the voice of reason… calm down and we just need to find Emiliano… Maybe he went into his dad’s office… Chuy agrees. Emiliano has to still be in here…  The Menchacas split looking for Emiliano… Emiliano runs out,, seemingly on his own.
Lupe: You know what makes me most angry? That Emiliano adores you. And you don’t deserve that love. Because you care more about money and power than about your son!
Ah: you are very wrong.
MA barges into the office, with Mini and Isela behind him…
MA: You are an inbecil and a viper!
Ah: What are you doing barging into my office like this??
MA: (grabs Ahole by lapel really hard)
Ah: I will remember the restriction order! So get out before I call the police!
(Isela and Mini are smiling to A-hole as in ‘take that’)
MA: The one that called the police was me. They won’t take long to take you to jail. And you know why?? Because we already know what you did to grandma Mati! (A-hole frozen scared, Lupe confused)
Out on the street walking by himself is Emi… remembering the argument between Lupe and Ahole… starting with ‘the one that wanted custody was you to go with MA… / all you wanted was your inheritance and that’s all!’…  he just has a few coins..
A-hole tries to downplay it as Isela being nuts… Mini shouts in defense to Isela… Crazy and ruca your grandma! Yells Isela.  (MA has a double take on that statement)…  In comes  Perla asking for Emiliano. Lupe asks wasn’t he with you all?   They all get concerned.  (that is, probably all except A-hole, Isela and Mini)
Emiliano has ended up right outside the gate to his old school. His friend’s mother is there to pick him up. Emiliano calls out ‘Paco!!’  Paco comes over to talk to Emiliano.  They ask each other if they are still mad at each other.  Emiliano apologizes to Paco… of course, you will always be my friend. Paco notices Emiliano is alone.  The teacher has also noticed Emiliano is alone.
Back to A-hole’s office. Lupe sends the Menchacas ahead while they finish the issue here.  MA nods to Lupe to go ahead with them… A-hole starts to try to bail out saying ‘why are we still arguing here when we should be looking for MY son??... MA won’t let him out… But here comes Top Cop, his assistant and A-hole’s lawyer… (or so he claims), who immediately tells Top Cop that any business he has with A-hole he will deal with him (the lawyer) for.  Lawyer tells A-hole not to say anything, or it could be used against him. MA asks Top COP to arrest A-hole. But Top Cop says that is not the procedure… we can’t just arrest him because you tell us something Mrs Blanco told you! (Isela corrects with her full name with both ‘viuda’)  Isela whines that she only has the surnames because she has no money or stocks… Mini runs after her to console the clackling.
A-hole walks out… Top Cop tells MA that he can’t do anything to stop him.  MA will join Lupe and the Menchacas to look for Emiliano. Top Cop will also help, and will also locate the nurse to see if she will tell them if A-hole really attempted against Mrs Mati.  MA thanks him and leaves.
A-hole in his car… with the lawyer and his new driver.  A-hole wants his ‘salaried’ help to think… where could Emiliano have gone?  Lawyer smartly tells him the one he should worry about is Dinorah the nurse so they can locate her and put a stop to the issue about Mrs Mati.  Lawyer receives a call.  It is the other lawyer, Solis… to give him the news of what has happened at Vilma’s trial… ‘It’s Very bad news, Sir…’
Back outside the school… Emiliano invites himself to Paco’s house since Lupe never had a problem with him going to Paco’s house… we go and later I will call her.
A-hole goes irate… ‘How is it possible that Vilma would betray me that way!!??’ the lawyer has not finished with the bad news… ‘they just ran an arrest warrant against you’.  They will freeze all your assets for the money laundering.  (A-hole is shocked)  The driver tells A-hole ‘that one is hard to get out of’.   A-hole tells the driver ‘don’t start you too telling me about your stories, or I will kill you’. (did Beto do this??LOL!)  The lawyer advices to A-hole to hide overseas… A-hole gets a call on his cell. It’s the teacher who was watching Emiliano. She tells him she called Lupe but her phone was busy… She does not see anyone  known with him. A-hole tells the teacher he is with Lupe (liar!!) and they are headed there. Thanks for letting me know.  A-hole hangs up and tells the lawyer ‘I am not going to flee alone. Get a passport for my son. RIGHT NOW!! I still have money!! I can pay you very well for your services!! But
I need those documents right now!! SHOO!!
(In a flash, A-hole has made it to the school. He thanks the teacher and calls Emiliano to come with him.) A-hole fakes having been scared… he claims he will do whatever to erase the sad face in Emiliano’s face and reminds him about how the amusement parks are in US.  Emi remembers. A-hole says that’s where we are going. I will show you how important you are to me… you are the only thing I really care about in life.   (with a fake hug to go with it)
Lupe is very anxious. MA tries to give her energy… we have to be strong.. Lupe scared because they have no idea where he could be.   MA starts a list of where he could be, including with the old friends from his old school. But Lupe brushes it off saying he doesn’t even talk to them anymore.  MA overrides saying ‘it’s a possibility and we don’t lose anything by asking them! Lets go!’
Emiliano asks A-hole where they will pick up Lupe at… at the fonda or at his house… A-hole says neither. This trip does not include your mom. As a matter of fact, I don’t think you will ever see her again… Emi is visibly concerned about that.
AS at her house tells Leo to get dressed to the nines, they will celebrate.  Leo is not in mood to celebrate.  Frida says it is strange not to see Mati here… can’t get used to life without her.  AS says ok but we must go on.  (Da Vinci is back on her arm!) she keeps talking Italian and saying she has to impress the non-profit dames… AS walks away… Leo asks Frida what is up with her… both Frida and Leo say they miss Mati.
At school teacher tells Lupe and MA that A-hole came for Emiliano a few minutes ago.  MA gets a call from Saul with the good news, that even there is a warrant for A-hole’s arrest… at first MA is reacting real happy and then gets scared (yeah buddy, that means A-hole is in dissappear like right now mode!!)
Carm gets call from Lupe to let her and the Menchacas know Emi is ok…  then MA tells Lupe what Saul told him… and Lupe tells him that Emi is with A-hole and if he is leaving, he will take Emiliano with him!!  MA is surprisingly calm to think clearly… if he is running, surely he won’t do it by car. Surely he will take the company private jet and the hanger is nearby. Let’s go!
In the car, Emiliano is telling his dad that he has never been far away from his mom. And even though she sometimes punishes him, she always takes care of him. He can’t live without his mom. A-hole claims that to need someone makes you weak and fragile, I have always lived alone and look how well I am doing… Emiliano claims it is different for him. Your parents died when you were young.  I do still have my mom and I want to live with her.’  A-hole again gets a call, yells at the lawyer that he needs his son’s passport and will meet him at the hanger.
Isela is still whining her blues to Mini… not even the last ace against A-hole worked… We are fried…
The doorbell rings, it is the last shipment of the ‘things’ Isela bought… It is a huge list including a rubber gloves collection, pool tables, electronic cigars, inflatable pools, etc… Mini asks if they can be returned. The guy says nope, they don’t accept returns.   Mini throws her head back… Isela comes in to model one of the rubber gloves in her face. Isela asks the guy to leave everything over there… she is so excited…
At hanger (which does not look like a small airport at all)… A-hole is really physically dragging Emiliano by arm… A-hole yells at Emiliano that MA has always spoken bad of A-hole to him. Emiliano says that’s not true! He has never spoken bad about you to me! On the contrary, he has always said he is glad I love you so much! Because you are my dad… but… A-hole yells at him again … we hear Lupe calls for Emiliano from far away… A-hole keeps trying to convince Emiliano to go with him telling him he loves him very much and that he is the only thing he has in his life, you will have more than any other kid. isn’t that great?...(still has grip of  Emiliano by arm)… Emiliano calmly responds ‘Dad, I love you very much. But ( I want you to) love me like my mom (loves me).’
A-hole lets his grip on Emiliano’s arm go, and he runs away to Lupe.  A-hole seems to be moved for first time in the show… ‘Emiliano, come back with me… I am your dad’ (NOW you remember that little detail)
As Emiliano has run away from him, MA arrives to grab a stunned A-hole to yell at him ‘ you are an imbecile!! You kidnapped Emiliano and killed my grandma!! What is wrong with you??’  ‘And you took everything from me… even my son…’ (now MA is the one confused/dazed).  (pulls a gun from his side) … I am going to kill you… (puts the gun cannon right to MA’s chin) like I killed that miserable old hag.’ (the bad A-hole is back)… we see cop cars surround the plane…  suddenly A-hole smiles and drops his gun hand… (seems he just gave up)… the cops arrest him.  MA runs to hug his girl and ‘son’.
I will leave it here for our fellow recappers. I have the next part.

The Menchacas and MA are at table when Agente Chavez called MA. Emi tells Lupe what Ahole told him and how he didn't want to leave with him. The Menchacas all gather around Emi. Perla is all excited about the Queen of La Nopalera contest. Emi asks everyone for forgiveness and of course everyone forgives him.

We are at the Police Station and guess who finally got arrested? It's Dinora, that horrid nurse that drugged Dona Mati. She tells Agente Chavez that Ahole is responsible for Dona Mati's death and it was a harmless pill. Agente Chavez says too bad, cause she is an accomplice and will be in jail for a very long time. Dinora thought she was getting out! She cries and whines.

Ahole is in his nice khaki prison uniform, while Vilma is all glammed up in a nice suit and has taken on his case. Ahole whines he can't trust anyone, not Vilma who betrayed him and also Emi that betrayed him. She tells him no worries, she is his lawyer now. She gives him an squeeze ball. He also complains about Lupe confiscating his lana. Ahole is sucking up to Vilma big time and he promises to do right by her. Is she listening? Of course she is, now she wants Ahole to tell her he loves her and it better be sincere. Oh, my eyes! He kisses her right there in the prison visiting room. Where is the guard that kept Lupe and MA apart, I'd like to know? Ahole also wants a visit from Emi. Vilma can't promise anything cause Emi is a minor and I don't think that's allowed.

AS and her family. She is going on again about just cause Ahole is in the jail, doesn't mean that cancels the Grandfather Clause.

Rita and Don C are dressed in their Luchador outfits. Saul hits on Rita one more time, and she finally tells Saul she is gay. He doesn't get it. Don C and Rita go into the ring. The whole of Nopalera are there to cheer them on along with a bunch of Luchadors in the ring.

Isela tells Mini it's time for them to find a new millionare to hook up with. Figure the odds there.

MA is meeting a bunch of young women and they are daughters of high society. Chabelita is with them. AS tells MA she wants him to marry one of these girls as they are of his class. MA tells these women his Mama is confused and that he already has a finace. Here come Lupe and Emi and Chabelita recognizes Lupe as one of the servants from the wedding. MA kisses Lupe in front of everyone while AS is porca miseira again! MA decides he wants to go to La Nopalera with Lupe and Emi and they go.

We go to La Nopalera next and its almost time to crown the Queen of La Nopalera. Two of the Judges we know, Guendy and The Banana King. All of the contestants are on the stage. Saul picks this time to ask Tomas to be his law partner. Tomas is very happy and accepts. Frida's name is announced to go on the stage and she is very surprised but Perla waves at her and Tizoc escorts Frida to the stage.

AS and Leo have a bit of a chat. She thinks its the apocolyse. They are done cause Leo helped MA out. Porca Miseria! He assures her the Juice Bidnez is really picking up and doing well. She confesses to Leo that she forged MA's signature and did several bank transactions to her account. Leo is not happy with her at all. She stole from MA and the familia. We'll get back to them in a tic.

Back to the Queen of Nopalera contest. The Banana King takes the stage and congrats the ladies. Perla is announced as the Queen, and Perla is very happy, but hold on there. Perla is disqualified because she is a professional model. Perla cries. It is announced that Frida has won the Queen of La Nopalera. Frida smiles, as does Perla and the Menchanca applaud.

Leo and AS continue their chat. So much has happened, MA was arrested, that wedding to Maca and Frida becoming preggers, but Leo is not down with AS stealing, out of all the things that have happened what she's done is the worst. She's never atoned for anything she's done. Beba comes and it's the offical announcement of the President of the Happy Charity. Leo is going to La Nopalera, and Da Vinci will be the only son to stay with her. AS cries as Leo leaves and then she thinks about what Dona Mati told her before she died. AS cries some more and wonders what she has done with her life.

Frida is crowned the Queen of La Noperla and Frida wants to pass the crown to Perla. Perla admits she submitted Frida's name cause Frida's heart is in La Nopalera. Nice hug. Perla leaves the stage and Tomas talks to her. She is undecided about modeling and being famous. Tomas says he doesn't need her to be famous and he declares his love for her. She kisses him and love is in bloom.

AS is sitting in the meeting for her to be formally declared as President of the Happy Charity. Beba and Chabelita are there, along with other high society ladies. Beba and Chabelita ask Ana Chofis why no one in her familia is here for this most momentus occasion. Ana Chofis says they left. Ana Chofis calls them hypocrites, cause none of their familes, sons, daughers, grandchildren are with Beba or Chabelita either. They are highly insulted and then tell Ana Chofis there are consequences for her actions. Ana Chofis informs the snobs that her only true friends are the Menchaca and she throws them all out on their rears, well not that, but she does throw them out.

Tizoc and his band are informed they won't be able to take the stage, but Bobby Pullido has shown up and asks them to play with him. They do. And Julie has the final part.

That evening, Leo and Frida sit at the family table in the Menchaca home. Tizoc tells Chuy about singing with Bobby P., and Frida says that thanks to Perla's joke, she's now Queen of La Nopalera.

Ana Sofia comes in with Davinci and GRACIOUSLY refuses Carm's offer of food - but only temporarily, it turns out. First, she asks the Menchacas' forgiveness for being so rude the entire time she stayed with them. She admits that this is the only place she's never felt alone; staying here turned her into a human being. (Slowly.) She's sorry she didn't know how to appreciate their generosity.

AS also has a confession to make: "It was I, not Miguel Angel, who stole your 300,000 pesos."

Chuy thanks AS for telling the truth, better late than never. The Menchacas forgive her. She offers to pay that back plus interest. They refuse. Then she offers to pay back all the money they put up for Leo's wedding and/or the work they did.

And NOW she wants some of Carmelita's excellent food.

In a nice restaurant, Minerva flirts with an older man. She says she wants a man who makes at least 500,000 dollars a month. She's got two friends who are married to millionaires (nonsense, we've never seen her with a friend) and they're not as pretty or smart as her. Mini figures a goddess like her deserves platinum credit cards. She's still young and pretty, and classy and faithful; a natural blonde, and a virgin.

The older man says he makes a lot more than half a million per month, but she's not making him a very good offer. "Your beauty will fade as my fortune grows. Maybe I could rent you just for the duration of your beauty? Otherwise, you would end up owing me!"

Next day, at the fonda, Lupe and MA tell Emi he'll have his inheritance when he's 21. Until then, he has to study and work hard.

At the prison, Vilma is dressed for a hot date. (THIS is the hot date.) She slips a small packet to Ahole. He says he learned all about pills with his grandmother, and he knows exactly what this combo will do. These will help him escape. Vilma enthuses that soon they can be together and go far away.

At the prepa, Frida organizes a Nerd Pride march. Tizoc shows up to take Frida to her appointment. She's thinking of majoring in sociology (or social work). He's thinking of studying to be a sound engineer. She wants him to apply to a college. Maybe he can get a scholarship.

Nepo and Gwendy ask Diego if he's heard from Leo. No.

At the fonda, AS and Carmelita plan to open a more upscale restaurant with fancy Mexican fusion dishes.

Gwendy visits MA and Leo at the juice office. She doesn't want to meddle, but [meddle meddle] maybe Leo should say goodbye to Diego before he takes off for el Gabacho.

Rita is making her tearful goodbyes to the Menchacas and Nepo when Leo comes in screaming like Brando yelling "Stella!!!" Actually it's more like "how dare you leave without saying goodbye." Diego is stunned. Nepo nudges him.

A doctor prescribes sedatives to help Isela deal with shock. Mini explains that all they have left is this mansion and a bunch of worthless trinkets that they can't sell. (Isela is wearing her new gloves and clutching a spatula; she growls at Mini not to diss her beloved tchotchkes.) Mini's worried what will become of them. The doctor says that Mexico and the whole world is in crisis, and the solution is to WORK.

"Buddies?" Leo asks in disbelief. Diego has to drag him into another room. Leo says, "you are much more than my 'buddy.' You are very special to me." Diego replies that "special" can mean a lot of things, and the problem is that Leo never would be more specific. Maybe they should just let it die here and now. Diego says it's too late to change his plans. He's going to the US and maybe even try theater school. Leo says Diego will end up being the big artist instead of Leo. Leo suggests they hang out at the fair for a while before Diego goes to the airport.

And Leo insists that they go holding hands, to show the world that they're in love. The Menchacas, RPs, assorted friends, and even Nepo cheer them on.

It's Ahole's sentencing. He gets 70 years. He goes bananas and accuses everyone of plotting against him. Then he suddenly falls, senseless. Someone is checking him for a pulse. Vilma coolly walks out of the courtroom.

AS transfers all the money from her account to the RP account. She says she's just returning some money that isn't hers. Then she asks Frida to have breakfast with her. Frida thinks her mother is kidding. AS apologizes for everything. Somehow Frida was always what AS wanted to be and if AS rejected Frida, it's because Frida was what AS never dared be: free, independent, sincere, and brave; values that AS always put down. "I'm so sorry, please forgive me."

Frida replies, "No, please forgive me, seriously." AS: "I'm sorry for abandoning you. Sorry for not having been with you enough. I made the mistake to think there was always something more important than you. And if I wasn't jumping for joy about your pregnancy, it's because being a young mother could cut your plans short. But I will support you in everything. And my grandchild."

We're at the graveyard. Ahole has already been buried. Vilma is sobbing, clinging to not-Beto's arm. MA is telling Saul he wouldn't believe it if he hadn't seen it for himself. Ahole was killed by his own bad juju. MA thanks Vilma for standing by Ahole through good times and bad. Vilma says there's no need to thank her, and MA need never worry about "your cousin Alejo" ever again. "YOUR COUSIN," she repeats.

Evening. At the fair, food is being served everywhere. MA and Lupe wonder when and how to tell Emi about his father. MA gets on one knee to "tell" Lupe something "very important," but a show is about to begin.

Los Angeles Azules play. Perla and Tomas are kissing. Frida and Tizoc are dancing. (Why is he still wearing his sunglasses?) Chuy and Carmelita dance. Vanessa is dancing with someone but I can't see her partner.

Vilma and not-Beto are at the graveyard, preparing to dig Ahole up. Apparently, his death was only temporary. (Get it? After they dig him up, he'll be a ZOMBIE!)

MA offers Lupita a ring in the wrestling ring. It's not just any old ring. It's the plastic bottle-neck ring he made for her in prison. She recognizes it: "You saved it!" MA palms it, blows on his fist, and from beind her ear he produces a real diamond ring. He slips it onto her finger and asks, "Guadaluuupe Menchaaaaaca Martinez, do you want to marry me and spend the rest of your life with me?" She says "yes" and hauls him to his feet for a kiss as confetti falls from the heavens like anvils on bad guys.

Speaking of which. Clumsily, Not-Beto loads Ahole into the car. If Ahole wasn't dead before, this rough handling might do it.

Another morning. Isela seems to have lost her marbles. She is in bed, surrounded by boxes full of random crap she's ordered. Mini explains that she's going to find a job before they're down to their last three pesos. She asks Oyuki to keep an eye on Isela. But when Isela finally has some privacy, she cackles that playing cuckoo is hard work. She'll watch her favorite telenovela's final episode while Mini goes out and works, bwahaha.

AS makes nice with Lupe and says she's MA's ideal woman. She's honest, hardworking, loyal, good, sincere, and it shows on MA's face that she is his happiness. Then AS adds, "acérquese a mi calor" (come to my warmth, feel my sunshine, gimme a hug).

Mini has a job! She's a roller-skating waitress at a bar. I'm not sure why she couldn't get a job at a place without roller skates, but I'll go for the cheap joke: she has a tray full of drinks. Predictably, she falls.

Vilma is giving Ahole some pills and slapping him awake. They're alone at some desolate ranch in the middle of nowhere. She says she bought it one day in the hopes that they'd someday live there together. "Spare me your foolishness," Ahole says, as he struggles to get up; he scolds her for "tuteando." He's in a hurry to make his plans for revenge, but is surprised to find himself chained to the wall. "I've got a Napoleonic mind too," Vilma gloats, "and my plan went perfectly!" Now he's at HER side. Everyone thinks he's dead, so no one's going to look for him. He's behaved very badly, Vilma says; he's done lots of damage.

Ahole feels dizzy. Vilma tells him it's because she's given him the same kind of pill he used to give Mati. From now on, those will be part of his diet. "I'm going to take such good care of you for the rest of your life! Know why? Because I love you!" He begs her to come back as she walks away, smiling. She locks a gate with iron bars behind her.

In a royal blue tux, Chuy walks Lupe down the aisle of the church. She is indescribably gorgeous. "With you, I discovered the true meaning of love," MA tells her. "Not only the love between a couple. You showed me the value of my family, my friends, the love of a parent, well, babble babble, know what else I learned? Listen everyone, I learned to be a better person and I'm very in love..."

It's Lupe's turn to talk: "You showed me that to live imprisoned with fear is not living. And to trust someone to give the best you have inside, like you did with me, is like light a lightbulb. I love you. Oh help me, I'm crying, do something..."

"She said she loves me!" MA tells the crowd. "Can I kiss her now? But I want to!" The priest finishes: "Before God and the church and all your family and friends, I declare you husband and wife. NOW you can kiss."

Kissing. The crowd cheers. Song by Tizoc.

"Months later"

In that tiny community service center in la Nopalera that Ana Sofia was so afraid before, she stands before a group of people and says that she is "a little bit of a..." [dramatic moment emphasized by thunder] "...yes, God, I heard that... I am a slight... er, an alcoholic." She feels better after saying it.

Perla has graduated from prepa.

At the (newer, bigger) juice office, MA talks to Saul on the phone. Saul's at an airport, traveling the world, looking for the woman of his dreams. Oh! He sees a pair of nice legs and thinks this might be the woman. She turns around. It's Macarena! Except now her name is Valentina and she's from Argentina. (I don't think Saul ever met Maca.) She's not put off by his awkward flirting, which should be his big clue that she's up to no good...

Tizoc and his band have made a video, which he and Frida watch on her tablet. They're at the university, where he's been awarded a scholarship. Wow, I guess it really has been months, because there's their baby. But they're still not a couple.

It's the grand opening of a new restaurant. Hey, what is Gabriel Soto doing here? He's helping Chuy and Carmelita and Ana Sofia open "El Coliseo de Roma-gnoli." (See what they did there? With the name? Cute!) Soto cuts the red ribbon.

Gwendy is soooo pregnant. The baby is kicking like crazy. Maybe Nepo will finally get his futbol star. (I say let's name this one Beckham. Even if it's a girl.)

Chuy asks Carmelita to be his novia. She gives it about three seconds' thought before accepting.

Frida and Emi talk about the baby and all his relatives and how he misses his father but tries to remember only the good things. The conversation ends abruptly when Frida suggests that he help her change the baby's diaper!

Leo skypes with Diego. (We know Diego's still in the US because he's got a little Statue of Liberty on his desk. We all do, right?) Leo's planning to go to New York. I think he says he has a scholarship. But Diego seems distracted. Why? Because he's been learning English and he wants to show off: he says "I love you" to Leo in English. (Leo has to block his camera momentarily while he regains his composure.)

Snapshots from the Edge:

Tizoc coos at the baby. He and Frida kiss.

AS tries to teach Carmelita to say "haute cuisine."

Chuy takes Carm aside just to say "novio."

Tomas comes to see Perla and she kisses him.

Trofeo comes to visit an ever-larger Gwendy with Nepo.

Lupe introduces fonda's new waitresses to MA: It's Isela and Minerva. (What, no roller skates?)

Emi walks in on MA and Lupe kissing.

Finally, a lecture from Miguel Angel:

"Life is a path of lessons and gifts that we each pass on our way. Sometimes the two come together, like the love of your life, or children; the blood of your blood or the soul of your soul.

"Love is a mystery. When it is stronger than fear and inertia, then love becomes miraculous. It rejuvenates old people, and matures those who leave childhood behind to become parents themselves.

"And the most important? Love chokes out selfishness and prejudice. All around the world, every day, irrational hate tries to beat down reason. The right to be different deserves the same respect as those who think the same or who think different than us. We are all the same. It doesn't matter if we are on one team or another; if we love 'algunas' or 'otros'..."

Lupe interrupts. MA says he forgot something, and runs out.

Hours pass. The room fills up with all the friends and family. The crowd grows larger and larger.

"When we honor the value of everyone, without distinguishing between rich and poor, and we respect that above any differences; when we understand that being is greater than having, then what have we won?

"Everything!"

All pose for a very crowded extended family photo.

And that is the end.

Good Early Morning:

This is the last of this TN but what a ride it was. It was well worth the two hours. I really liked this Team Effort, what fun this last recap is. Please enjoy the recap.

Saul didn't know that Diego's mother was a lesbian ?

Plus, he's flirting with an Argentine woman at the airport.

Thanks for posting this, Mads! And thanks Marta for your very thorough recap of Friday's episode, which was so jam-packed full of detail it must have taken you forever.

Thanks to both of you for your recaps, and to Jane and Ezra as well. This was a fun one to recap.

So I was wrong about Mati faking her death. Dammit! Admittedly, that sort of thing really is more Ahole's style. But I was RIGHT about there being another clause! (Finally! Right about SOMETHING!)

Funny how Emi's old school continued screwing up all the way through the final episode. (Not that it's really the teacher's fault that she was able to reach Ahole before Lupe - but it was typical!)

So they DID recover the bullet that Ahole shot himself with. I don't think we ever actually knew that for sure until last night.

I thought the nurse said that the pill she gave Ahole to kill Mati with was a harmless thing that would only have put her to sleep, and she must have died on her own. Later, I thought MA said something to that effect to Lupe as well - that as much as Ahole tried to kill her, she died of natural causes. That is why Isela couldn't be prosecuted for helping to kill Mati.

I still don't get the Perla/Tomas thing, but I guess that's not the most important part of the story.

I have more to say, but I'll have to do it later.

Mads, Marta, Julie- Wonderful job ladies! You did a fab job on the finale. Thank you Jane and Ezra for your recaps as well.

I have to say I was quite satisfied by this finale. I felt warm and fuzzy when I turned off the tv, and that often doesn't happens after a finale (*cough* Robo).

A few clarifications- the writers addresses my criticism that Don A caused Mari's death by revealing that the nurse gave Alejo false information about the drug that would kill Mati. She actually died of natural causes. Still doesn't change Alejo's intent, or all the years he and the nurse drugged her, which is why the nurse was still given jail time.

AS's redemption came late but I'm glad it finally happened. Leo listed all the things that had happened to the individual family members saying the the most shameful of these was HER behavior. So while she was going on about how these things they did had shamed her, she was really the one who was shaming them. That got through to her.

Lupe looked really beautiful at the wedding. Emi chose his mother over going off with Alejo, and wasn't exposed to the worst of Alejo. No one had to be told Alejo murders Mati since she died of natural causes, Emi was able to go forward with some good memories of his father.

But best of all, Alejo will have a lifetime of the torment he subjected Mati to. Ha!

Julie- Perla decided on her own that the modeling thing was not for her and that she needed to find and concentrate on something she was good at, and of course needs to continue her education. Yes. She's a bit ditzy, but she demonstrated the good heart she has when she was so gracious about Frida winning. That's the Perla that Tomas always sees, that it's more difficult for us to see. With more education, I'm sure she'll get less ditzy and seem more on level with Tomas. He's happy so I'm happy for him and them.

I love that the writers gave us another glimpse of Macarena. She is a trip. But poor Saul! :)

Funny moment- when Not-Beto kept whacking zombie Alejo's head accidentally, after Vilma told him they were digging him up to donate his brain to science. LOL! Not-Beto also mentioned he was going away to see his compadre Beto, so although we didn't get a final Beto sighting, he was mentioned.

Conservative Democrat:

Saul didn't know that Rita was gay. He'd hit on her before and thought maybe he had a chance with her. I'm glad that Rita finally told him.

Vivi:

Thanks for what I missed, I fixed my part of the recap.

I too really like how the writers tied things together.

I'm glad that Emi heard for himself what Ahole was all about as far as the money goes, and how Emi didn't want to go off with Ahole without his Mama and wanted to live with his Mama.

The biggest surprise for me was AS throwing Chabelita and Beba out. That was priceless! I'm glad she told the Menchaca she had stolen their money and how Carm and AS became socios! Too funny. I liked the new name of the Juice Bidnez the combined names of Guendy and Lupe I think. It was really funny with Gabriel Soto too. He was standing next to Lupe and Carm, his costars on Refugio.

The best part though was Ahole's comeuppance. I really thought he was dead, and Valerio carrying the "body" to the car was priceless. I did get a big laugh about the donating Ahole Zombie's brain to science, even Valerio has a big laugh over that. The best part though, was Ahole demanding to be set free so he could wreck his venganza and Vilma telling him she was like Napoleon too. Let's see how he likes being drugged and kept a prisoner. This was a great anvil for him!

I think they worked out the Emiliano eye-opening very well... he realized A-hole's plans never really included Lupe, his mom... and a life with A-hole by themselves was not what he had hoped for... so in the long term, he chose right.. to live with his real family...
Emiliano is not dumb for his age... so when
1. he had a chance to reconnect with Paco, his best friend, and he saw that Paco (sorry in my recap i said Pack somewhere) had no hard feelings toward him for what Emi had done, and
2. all A-hole would mention that they would enjoy is trips to the amusement parks and the things that no other boy can have,
3. A-hole roughing him up by the arm and then trying to say Lupe and MA had brain-washed him against A-hole, which Emiliano knew it was not the case...

Emiliano remembered how lonely he felt at A-hole's house... where he ended up going back to his playing with the wrestler figurines as being more fun than video games... Emiliano seemed to make his own decisions in the car on the ride to the small airport...
and by the time A-hole had made his final desperate plea to him to come, Emiliano knew what to say... and he said it very cleverly...
I loved that sequence... beginning with that telling moment at A-hole's house on friday's ep.

Very clever and subtle way to get a kid his age to see the light...

and yes, even though the second half of the finale was a bit cheesy, i did like the sequence of one character interrupting another couple's kiss only to end up in their own romantic ending scene... interrupted by another character... and so on...
Lupe looked incredible both at the moment of the proposal and at the wedding...
and even Perla looked great at that final moment when Tomas came to pick her up...
Great thing Leo and DA ended up together, even though DA was in NY for a while.. and Leo was planning to come visit him.
Chuy and Carm ended up very realistically... dating (as 'novios') but no word of marriage yet...
AS and Carm associating to open a couple new restaurants... that sounds great...
Didn't MA and Saul talk about while traveling the world, Saul would also do some marketing or advertising for the juice business overseas?? did I hear right?

First of all, I would like to thank Madelaine, Marta, Jane, Julie and Ezra for their wonderfully written recaps. They were entertainment in themselves. Second, I would like to thank the recappers and my fellow commenters for all of their postings that made this blog so much fun and so informative. Finally, A special thanks to Jane for creating Caray, Caray ( a wonderful learning community) to begin with.

I loved the gran final. There is just too much to comment on!

Where to start? Well, I have to start with Isela watching the gran final of "Qué pobres . . ." Herself. I loved that Minerva finally met her match in materialism in the businessman.

Poor Saúl will be prime pickings for Macarena.

Emiliano thankfully returned a wiser version of his previous self. He did some growing up just like Perla finishing la prepa.

It looks like Leonardo's reaction to AS calling her what she was (a thief) and telling her that he was ashamed of her was what really launched her on her complete. rehabilitation. From the confession to the Menchacas to the AA meeting, she finally came clean. Of course her favorite son DaVinci was with her all the way. He had so many cute little outfits. I never cared much for chihuahuas until I saw DaVinci.

I also liked the realism in the relationships of Leonardo/Diego, Frida/Tizoc, don Chuy/Carmelita. In my fantasy ending they all end will end up together happily ever after.

Alejo's end was about as bad as it could get for him. I love that Vilma will be doling out his punishment with her own "mente napoleónica".

The wedding was great with MA being so excited he couldn't stop talking. Lupita was so cute getting his to shut up so she could talk.

It was such a happy ending. I liked the series of all of the kissing couples with someone catching them saying "yo los veo" ( I see you).

The MA "lecture" just added to a very sweet ending and showed the journey that MA had made from being a jerk to being a mensch.

Hope to "see" some of you on the "Mi corazón es tuyo" (very enjoyable so far) blog or maybe one of the new dramas.

Jarifa

Mads, yes... the whole sequence of:
1. AS bringing the society available girls for MA to choose
2. MA being honest with the girls in front of AS and Lupe and kissing Lupe right then and there
3. Leo telling AS like it is and choosing to go to the party at La nopalera; ( boy has he come a long way...)
4. AS realizing how lonely she got and that the 'niveles' motto had gotten her more lonely than ever
5. AS remembering Mati's last words to her, that she was still in time to realize what is reall important and make the best use of the time she has left...
6. AS kicking Chabela, Beba and the whole group and saying they are all hypocrits, just like she had been and she only had friends at La Nopalera
7. AS going to the Fonda and appologizing...
8. Associating with Carm for restaurants and sharing the credit for the recipes...

that was awesome... Sylvia Pasquel deserves my deepest respects for that acting...

ah! and her going to the AA group and confessing her alcoholic habit.

Marta:

I fixed Paco's name : )

For those who saw LHDM... wasn't that deja vu for Mark Tacher? getting advice from his lawyer to leave the country after being accused of money laundering?? LOL!

and did anyone else catch 'Leonardo' at Sabadazo on saturday? he was hillarious... he was in character but dressed like Pewee Herman... so cute!

I also liked the Spanglish in this TN along with the Italian thrown in. It was so unique and different. It took some getting used to, but overall "hiper cool", lol.

Dear Recappers...you did a marvelous job on this finale and throughout. Thank you thank you thank you!

As per usual, the u-verse recording stopped after the first hour (I added 15 minutes but didn't know this was going to go 2 hours) so had to go to U-Tube and what I found there was hard to see full- screen. Hulu wanted me to pay an additional fee which I don't have so watched as best I could on You Tube.

That being said, this was such a great story line and the ending so far, far superior to what the writers delivered on Lo Que La Vida Me Robo (I have to give the whole name as I often can't figure out what's being referenced with the abbreviations...getting old!) I still haven't recovered from that disappointment! Just Awful. The worst. Remind me to never watch another one of that producer's programs! Or let me know if a spoiler-alert would spare me sticking with it to such a poorly-written ending)

I think Jaimie Camil has such a different sensibility in his approach to this business. Such a big heart. Yes the last hour was a bit sentimental but I loved it all nonetheless....especially the enlightenment of Dona Sofia...and what an amazing actress she is.

I see Mr Camil is doing movies these days but sincerely hope he also keeps his hand in telenovelas. Once again, it all was, for me, a wonderful heart-warmer and there's just not enough of that in this world these days.

Again, so grateful for this site and the gifted writers who recap.

Dona Felipa

Another thing I enjoyed about this novela was the multigenerational approach with the older people having much to offer (doña Mati) and having relationships of their own ( don Chuy/Carmelita; isela/ new husband) I have seen this in some other novelas as well and wish we saw more of this in US productions. Btw, the actress playing doña Mati --Queta Lavat- is 85. I love it!

Jarifa

hmmm just realized Queta Lavat (Dona Mati) is sister in real life of Jorge Lavat (Eva Luna, Los Hermanos Corage). no wonder they looked so much alike in their facial structure.

Thank you all.

How do we know the nurse told the truth about the drug Alejo gave Mati? She would be motivated to lie to save her skin. The doctors didn't find anything amiss but they weren't looking for poison. Heck! Thanks to the nurse's wonder drugs, doctors couldn't even tell Alejo was ALIVE (nor could the embalmers??). With that level of pharmaceutical genius, I'm sure the nurse could've found a murder drug the doctors wouldn't detect if they weren't looking for it. And Mati's doctors would assume age-related death so they certainly didn't look for poison. What's more, she would've been scared to defy Alejo. If she gave him a non-murder drug for Mati, her ruse would've been discovered when Mati woke up, and then Alejo, who she knows is capable of murder, would turn against her. I say the pills were murder drugs.

Did you notice the insanity theme, or at least mental incapacity?
Mati was mentally incapacitated all those years.
Isela faked madness to maintain a couch potato lifestyle.
Alejo will be mentally incapacitated for the rest of his life.
Vilma has gone off the deep end - you see the obsession-driven madness toward the end of her conversation with Alejo - my preciousssss.

Paula H

Marta- I did not know she was the sister of Jorge Lavat! Now that you mention it, I can totally see the resemblance. I was so sad when he died so soon after Eva Luna. He was great in that.

Paula- The cops didn't just take the nurse's word for it. It was mentioned briefly, I think by MA, that they went back and did an autopsy after the nurse was captured, and it showed nothing-- just natural causes.

Paula:

Very good points. There was a little mental capacity thingy running through this TN and it's funny two of them were caused by Ahole. Dona Mati's was cause my Ahole on those drugs Dinora fed her all those years, and because Ahole led Vilma on all this time, he fed her obsession with Ahole. Very interesting!

Really enjoyed the end of this TN with a decently paced warp up of all the story lines. Sometimes they come so fast in the final episode you can't enjoy the anvils and punishment.

Ahole certainly got what he had coming in a Misery kind of way. Real justice there.

Emi learned his lesson but I do have to say I felt a twinge of pity for Ahole as he stood gripping the little guy's arm and then letting him go without hurting him and quietly begging him not to go. Who knew he actually had a heart.

Hated Saul going off with the con woman. Hw is too nice a guy to e tuck with the likes of her.

I'm glad we didn't have a forced coupling of Tizoc and Frieda. They are too young but I did like that they are caring for the baby together and that she talked him into going to college. Very mature on both their parts.

Perla who cares once a twit always a twit although she did take losing the crown well.

AS and her transformation was good to see. The actress did an excellent job of handling all those emotional scenes and I will admit to crying during most of them.It took her a long time but she did learn what was important in life and to her.

Min and Mom hilarious in the end they end up working at the Fonda. Looks like Isela became addicted to QVC or the Home Shopping Network. Laughed at Min over estimating her somewhat shopworn charms.

Laughed again with Nepo planning another football star child and planning to name him Cristiano Renaldo. He never learns.

Also got a kick out of those guest appearances, Gabriel Soto and Juan Ferrara.

Decie...
a Misery kind of way
absolutely... james Caan and Kathy bates movie where she even breaks his legs to stop him from getting away... justice indeed.

Now... did A-hole really have a heart? was he really honest in that final plea to Emi? i would like to think so... otherwise he would not have told MA you took everything from me, even my son.

Juan Ferrara was awesome as the new old rich guy target of Mini's. too funny he did not fall for the scam.

Oh, yes, I too loved that scene with Mini and the Millonaire so funny, especially when she kept pointing out her assets, and his not being impressed and she may owe him. It was so very funny, and I like the actor too.

Thanks Vivi - I missed the part about the autopsy. That also settles another inquietud - I was thinking that Alejo's punishment fell short. A fundamental rule of TNs is that matricide or grandmatricide calls for the very worst punishments - being devoured slowly by ants, or drowning in an outhouse pit, or something like that. But since Alejo only attempted the murder, that mitigates it.

Decie Girl, what role did Juan Ferrara play? I'm not familiar with him so I didn't notice him.

Don't forget - Jaime Camil will be in Jane the Virgin, an English language dramedy on CW, starting October 13. It looks pretty good.

Paula H

Marta answered my Ferrara question while I was posting. Thanks.
Paula H

Bravo, that was one of the best endings I've seen in a TN.

Thank you recappers for all your hard work with this one. The translations had to be a killer and I would have been much more lost without you all.

The most unbelievable thing about the end was that Vilma got out on bail and was able to serve as Alejo's lawyer. She was still an accomplice to most of his crimes and should have still been in jail for a long time, just like the nurse. But that little beanie moment meant we got to have the sweet, sweet end of Vilma giving Alejo the "Misery" treatment, so I'm ok with it. :)

Alejo is getting what he deserves: all of the years of torment he's subjected to Dona Mati and killing her, I'm glad that he's getting exactly what he's getting now.

Vivi, on the autopsy part:

Alejo still killed Mati because of his hatred for her and his obsession of power.

Heck, if this had been a 4-hour finale, he would have killed Lupe and MA too.

Thanks so much for this wonderfully detailed and seamless recap, Marta, Madelaine, and Julie... well done.

I thought this last episode was very satisfying and was well-written and well-acted. I especially liked the ending for Vilma and Alejo. How appropriate though I hope that she goes easy on his drugs so he can fully appreciate the experience.

Was a nice treat seeing Macarena one last time. I'm not too worried for Saul.

I especially enjoyed the assisted slightly traumatic resurrection of Alejo and Minnie on skates. Both scenes made me laugh out loud.

Generally I'm rather happy when a TN finally wraps up, but I thought this still had some life in it and even left me wanting more.

Carlos

Carlos, I'm wondering if Alejo may have killed Don Aureliano and his own parents ?

Just saying.

Don Aureliano died in a hospital that was not controlled by A-hole and Mati never suspected anything and MA was out of the picture, in Europe, so I doubt A-hole had anything to do with Aureliano's death.

Thank you so much to all the recappers for their excellent work with this telenovela.Madelaine, Marta, Julie, Jane and Ezra, I'm so grateful to all of you.

I was also very happy with this finale. The only thing I would have changed is to give the final lecture to Doña Mati from heaven so that we would know she was taking care of her two interwined families from heaven. She was such a great presence in this telenovela.

I enjoyed everything, from Alejo's ending to Minerva's to the Menchaca's and Ruizpalacios. My favorite moments were the hand holding between Diego and Leo and the conversation between Ana Sofía and Frida where AS asked for forgiveness for how she had always treated her (that was the turning point for me regarding her character).

Also enjoyed the wedding and proposal and the new restaurant. Excellent work from everyone.

I was so happy to comment with all of you in the QPTR section. This was the last novela I saw in its entirety and although I do occasionally watch MCET, I don't watch it every night. I'm in the middle of big personal changes so I haven't had time to watch anything lately but maybe later I will find the time to watch and comment with all of you a new telenovela. Thank you all so much for the fun and comfort that this community always provides.

Jarocha

And yes, i almost forgot to thank everyone for making this forum so enjoyable... nothing like discussing about a very enjoyable telenovela which did not make us tense right before bedtime...
I too hope Camil will make more novelas... although i like the movies he has made recently (still have 'Regresa' to watch, i will probably enjoy that one this weekend) so i want him to make more.
So mil gracias for making this so much fun to share comments and reactions... Like Jarocha, I hope to see as many of you as possible on the mcet blogs...

Carlos:

You are so right, it could have more storyline, I think. Like Leo going off to New York to be with Diego, the Adventures of Saul and Maca, now that would be a hoot. The huge success of The New Roman-ogli restuarante, the wedding of Carm and Don Chuy, Guendy and the twins, just a guess, one a boy, one a girl and the girl is the real soccer player! Tizoc opens a music studio, Frida becomes a very respected Social Worker, Emi joins MA in the Juice Bidnez, so much more.

Jarocha,

I hope you join us again. I hope your personal changes are for the good. We always enjoy your point of view.

When it was first believed that Alejo died, I was so disappointed that they would give him that ending. I was pleasantly surprised enough to suspend my common sense that there were further medical inquiries, no embalming done with his body, and that he could somehow have enough air to breath while he was buried before being dug up.

Carlos, you got your wish to see Macarena again.

What a surprise to see Gabriel Soto. I didn't watch Refugio Para el Amor, so I forgot how hubba hubba he is.

I'm so sad to see this TN end - I looked forward to spending time with the characters every evening! I saw every episode and felt a real connection to the players. This is a great blog - much thanks to Madelaine, Marta, Julie and Jane for entertaining and timely recaps - getting the posts up in good time and the breathing air into the storylines. Well done! :-)

Thank you, recappers!

Yay! Maca appeared! I think she and Saul actually could be quite happy together. I think he'd appreciate her spark and initiative, and she might decide she's perfectly happy with a prosperous-enough lawyer who appreciates her. I'm just imagining the scene when he brings her home to meet his friends :).

I thought there was way too much of Emiliano, but other than that I liked the finale. Still think Tomas could have done better, but oh well. I guess he's happy.

And I rolled my eyes a bit that they had to have Leo and Diego in different places and Skyping so they didn't have to include them in the kissing snapshots. They were cute, though.

My absolute favorite bit was Not-Beto lurching Zombie Ahole around and clunking his head on the ground.

I was surprised that Vilma got out of jail, but in the end I think she's getting the punishment she deserves...in imprisoning Ahole, she's also basically imprisoning herself. She can't move on and live a happy life while she's got him there to "care" for and obsess over.

Tizoc turned out okay. He was great with the baby.

I thought AS's redemption was too quick and easy, but I'm glad she did change, if only so she'd quit making her kids miserable.

A show should leave you wanting more, so that's a good thing Carlos. And not bad for a show that went over 160 capitulos. We can imagine happy futures for most of our characters without too much effort.

As horrible as Mini was, she was actually less horrible than AS, AND she told MA about Mati instead of letting Isela use it as leverage to blackmail Alejo. After a period of working as a waitress, I hope she works her way up and becomes successful at something. Maybe she becomes a renown party hostess or organizer. Isela seems like a lost cause, though. She can become Mini's party planning assistant and have to run around doing menial tasks.

I hope Saul has a great time with "Macarena" and they jet set around the world. The girl may be a liar and a scam artist, but she does know how to have a good time.

Honestly - this is not my favorite fin of all time. I liked the way they did it Eva a little better - they took more time to wrap things up for each character. This seemed more rushed to me.

(I don't mean the anvils so much as the changes in AS and in Perla.)

Of course we can also "thank" Univision for cutting stuff out of the ultimas semanas. That really made me angry.

But I'm okay with all of the characters' outcomes. Emi was spared the absolute worst of his father. And I did love AS telling the Harpy Foundation ladies that the Menchacas were her real friends.

I think Saul will be okay with Macarena/Valentina. Either she'll figure out she's not rich enough for her before things get too serious, or she'll decide that he IS rich enough for her. Either way, he's not pretending to be filthy rich, so at least he won't go bankrupt trying to impress her!

So that was Juan Ferrara Mini was trying to "marry"? I thought he looked familiar, but I've never watched anything with him in it.

I'm still very skeptical about Mini and Isela working at the fonda. I'm all for silliness, but that was a little too silly for me.

Vivi, I too thought it was odd that Vilma got off the hook so easily. Maybe the judge gave her a break for providing the evidence against Alejo.

Cathyx, I won't say the translations last night were a killer, but the AMOUNT of dialog certainly was. I know I missed quite a bit, even as I was typing like the wind. (Note: the wind must be a lousy typist. There were several places where I had to replay the scene later because I couldn't figure out what I had typed.)

yes, Saul and Maca traveling the world sounds like fun... as long as Saul manages to do some work... maybe the international marketing for the juice business... but Saul also offered Tomas a law job... so not sure if he would have to back up from that offer... Tomas can always get hired at the Editorial in the law group.

Tom can do Saul's legal stuff while Saul does the international juice stuff.

I kinda got sidetracked before, when I was complaining that I thought the ending seemed rushed. I meant to add that the rushed ending (and stupid Univision's stupid snip, snip, snip) are the ONLY complaints I have about this TN - and they're pretty weak complaints.

(Oh, and Jaime talking to the camera at the very end. That wasn't awful, but I didn't need to have the entire theme of the TN explained to me. It was just a restatement of the obvious that didn't do justice to the more subtle themes we've talked about in this TN, including the value of work, the mental capacity angle that Paula mentioned today, etc etc. Also, once you've been lectured by Jaime as Eva, all other lectures are super-lame.)

But the pacing, the mood, the balance between comedy and drama, the acting, the directing - I give this TN very high marks in every category. Very well done.

Wait... one more quibble. Whatever happened to the original detectives, Jonathan and Jennifer?? I thought they'd find some excuse to come back for the finale with their new baby!

Whew! That was a wonderful ride and very much enhanced by the recaps - I read all 160 of them! (special thanks to the dual duty recappers)

I agree with whoever suggested Mati would have been a better choice to tell the moral of the story. I really wanted to see her again and JC did it better as Eva in PESE.

I do have one niggling question. When Vilma gave Ahole the pills, it seemed like he said something about it being fortunate that the medication had never been found in Mati's system, as though he had poisoned her and gotten away with it. Earlier MA had said there was not trace of poison. So I'm puzzling over whether she dropped the pills instead of swallowing them, they were too tricky to be detected or the doctors doing the autopsy were sloppy. But enough of all this analysis.

You all hit the high notes and I loved it.

Marta, Madelaine, and Julie should be honorary Queens of the Nopalera for this most excellent combined recap. A supremely satisfying finale. As Vivi said, warm and fuzzy.

Good the search for Emiliano was relatively easy and that Emi easily escaped Ahole’s clutches at the airport. No elaborate chase, only one life-threatening scene with MA. Emi did get to see the ugly side of his Dad and did learn to appreciate his familia.

My favorite non-romantic couple was Isela and Mini. Their playing off one another, whether in agreement or bickering, was always hilarious. Isela surrounded by the junkpile of her final haul (and pretending to be nuts) was great.

Happy for Dinorah to get her punishment for all the bad meds she gave Mati. How kind of Vilma to bring Ahole the stress ball to comfort him in jail.

It looked like Perla’s nomination of Frida was a nice gesture, not a snotty one. So ironic that the magazine cover prevented Perla’s ascension to the throne, although she took it in stride. Frida was having fun being the Cactus Queen. Maybe Perla can follow Carmelita, Lupita, and even Ana Sofi as role models to become a worthy match for Tomas. Hey, he loves her already, just the way she is.
Leo has shown so much growth. Loved his stern words to AS, convincing her to truly examine her soul. Also laughed when she called the foundation ladies hypocrites and kicked them out of her house. Leo’s final scenes with DA were sweet and hopeful.

And AS finally had her redemption moments! Confessing and apologizing to the Menchacas, and introducing herself at the AA meeting. Her partnership with Carmelita and her reconciliation with Frida were great scenes as well. She even borrows Don Chuy’s phrase about warmth when she hugs Lupita. Who would have believed it a few days ago?

Good for Tizoc’s band having its moment at the fair, but why the constant sunglasses, especially at the dinner table? At least he seems to be a good dad.

Minerva in the market place, trying to place herself with a rich guy. LOL. Even at his special rates, she must not have hooked up since we see her waitressing. She and Isela ending up at the new restaurant!?! Maybe they’ll attract some rich guy? I can see Isela looking good to Don Salamon and he could help sell her collection of online goods.

Loved how MA used the plastic ring for the proposal, then changed it over for the diamond. The whole TN was actually about changing cheap and temporary values for precious and lasting ones.

Speaking of cheap and temporary, so happy we got to see Macarena—err, excuse me, Valentina, again! She and Minerva are bimbo sisters in search of a sugar daddy.

Since Ahole deprived Vilma of Adolfo Giron, who truly appreciated her, it’s only fair that he has to spend the rest of his life (we hope) as her love slave. Since Alejo took a couple of hard blows to the head during that loading process, his mental capacities may be diminished a little. Doesn’t matter anyway, since Vilma (who finally got her man!) is going to keep him chemically compliant. Karma at its finest for Ahole!

I enjoyed this TN so much, for its great cast, excellent acting, and hilarious details. It kept the murder count very low and was just sweet. Alejo, a hateful character, was supremely well acted. Leo was another whose acting was most entertaining.

Except for skimming along the surface of Mi Corazon Es Tuyo, I’m on a TN break. Feeling lukewarm on Hasta El Fin, slighty nauseated on La Malquerida, and downright opposed to La Gata. (Sorry, Gringo. I know you’re looking forward to La Gata. Maite turned me off in Cuidado Con El Angel and didn’t do a lot to redeem herself in Triunfo del Amor. That’s only my opinion, ‘cuz I know she’s a goddess in the Gringo’s eyes. Daniel was such a disappointment in Corazon Indomable that I don’t want to see a near-repeat.)

I hate hearing The Moral of the Story spelled out by a character or voiceover at the end. If the viewers didn't get it already, it's hopeless. I'd rather spend that few minutes on more happily ever after scenes. Surprised we didn't see MA and Lupita having or expecting more kids. Or did we and I missed it?

I wish Jennifer and Jonathan had come back, too!

And I wish AS's kids had found out about her origins.

I think that I might have liked Perla a little more than the rest of you. She seems to have such a pleasant innocent view of the world. The way she behaved with such grace when she visited the editorial that first time really won me over. Yes, she is frivolous and silly and rather self-centered with unrealistic hopes and ambitions, but aren't most teens her age? No drugs except the misguided use of diet pills. Did we ever see her get drunk? I don't think she ever had sex... unprotected or otherwise. She has her whole life ahead of her and has survived perhaps the most perilous part of it relatively unscathed.

Carlos

I agree with whoever suggested Mati would have been a better choice to tell the moral of the story.
I agree...
regarding the lesson itself, i did not see much of Eva so i was not bored with repetition there.

I believed that MA said from the doctor autopsy that it seemed Mati was not takign the drugs they were giving her... just like she did not take them while she was at A-hole's the last period she was there...
so maybe she was not taking anything she was given on purpose. She knew that once she died, the clause would be fulfilled by either MA or A-hole and then the documents would be read so everyone would be ok from that point... she had given her final 'advice/lessons' to all her relatives, so she was looking to go in peace, just like she did... maybe she was skipping all meds and vitamins on purpose.

Fishknits, I wonder if Ahole's lawyer (Vilma) neglected to tell him that the pills Dinorah gave him for Mati weren't the poison he thought they were.

Carlos, Perla did have a little too much to drink one night at a nightclub where she threw herself at Diego and he rejected her. Tizoc's band was playing someplace, I think it was the gig that Frida had set up for them. But no, generally she wasn't a boozer.

I just found it really weird that Tomas was so intent on being with Perla despite her frivolity and immaturity. Tomas always seemed like a grown man to me, and Perla always seemed like a kid.

Julia, I saw no sign of any babies on the way for Lupita and MA either. An odd but kind of nice change. EVERYBODY doesn't have to have kids right away, and maybe they haven't gotten tired of Frida's baby yet.

I also really liked the talk between AS and Frida. It was LONG overdue. If you think about it, Frida had the worst parental situation than any other character. She was very young when her dad died, and her mother completely abandoned her emotionally. So did her brothers, with Leo often taking his mother's side in ridiculing her, and MA physically abandoning her by running off to Europe. At least all the Menchaca kids had a loving dad when their mom died. It's a wonder Frida had the good heart that she did, besides being a bit frivolous and just playing at being a revolutionary/rebel when this started.

Yes, it was mentioned that Mati didn't have ANY drugs in her system, good or bad. We can conclude what we want about that. She was speaking a lot about meeting up with Aureliano on the other side near the end.

"Also, once you've been lectured by Jaime as Eva, all other lectures are super-lame." That's one for the sidebar, Julie! It made me cackle!

Isela & Don Solomon - perfect. Like a duet between classical guitar and a tambourine. The more I ponder it the better it gets.

When Alejo choked up at the airport, I'm convinced it was just a distraction while he reached for his pistol. That's his usual MO - be all sweet and emotional so you're caught off guard when he stabs you in the eye. I'll accept that he does have a soft spot for Emiliano, but not a very big spot considering how he treated him in the car and on the airport, when Emi was no longer needed for his plot.

Paula H

For anyone into Hispanic film, the movie "Cantinflas" comes out Friday.

Jarifa

If Lupe, MA and the cops hadn't shown up, I betcha Ahole would've killed Emiliano.

The man tried to out-Feo Feo of PSMA, but couldn't.

I found this touching tribute to Que Pobres Tan Ricos - thought this group would appreciate it! http://www.latintimes.com/9-reasons-watch-que-pobres-tan-ricos-finale-univision-203117

I find it interesting that some of you felt the finale was rushed. I actually found it a little slow. I commented on the Friday recap that the episode shown then was a Thursday episode here, Alejo getting caught and sent to jail was part of the Friday episode, not the finale here and the actual finale started with the party at the Nopalera.

The finale aired here was also two hours long so something must have been cut from the Univision finale but rereading the final recap I can't exactly tell what. Maybe the dancing and some scenes at the Nopalera were cut short.

Jarocha

Jarocha- I didn't think it was rushed at all, especially compared to other finales. They showed it over 2 and a half hours here, with limited commercials, so I don't think much of anything was cut. Almost the entire 2 hours after the first hour was just celebrations and final character redemptions, as opposed to the mad rush for the bad guys to do one last dastardly thing as we see in many tn finales (with 5-10 minutes of happy endings).

"after the first half hour" not after the first hour.

Thank you so much for this wonderful recap. Man, the dialog was flying!

I haven’t been able to join in the fun at Caray during Pobres, but I had to come take a look to see how everyone liked it and liked the ending. I’m very happy to see everyone loved this telenovela as much as I did.

I thought all of the actors did an amazing job. Usually there are a few duds in a cast, but not in this one. I was particularly impressed with the boy who played Emiliano – such a convincing performance by one so young. The actors playing AS and Leonardo were particular favorites, but again, all were splendid.

I had given up on telenovelas for a while there, partly because of burn-out, but also partly because Univision started chopping out parts, sometimes to the point you couldn’t even figure out what was going on.

And the worst is when they start cutting at the end, just the part we’ve been waiting with glee for, the part where evil is punished and virtue rewarded. Those are the money scenes, and I’m astonished that Univision plays so fast and loose with their main bread and butter, the telenovela audiences. Is there any sort of viewer revolt afoot? There should be.

It just frosted my cupcake that they started cutting towards the end of this one – then they had time in the past week to show 5 minutes of the previous show and to treat us to musical performances which were fun, yes, but didn’t develop the storyline any.

Other thoughts:

Carlos, I’m grateful for the male take on Perla, because she seemed a very poor choice for a lawyers’ wife.

The closing speech to the camera: Yeah, okay, it was sappy, but I loved it. It’s Jaime Camil, after all!

I think something is wrong with Tizock’s (sp?) eyes – or rather, the actor’s eyes. He played that whole pivotal scene at the cemetery – the one where he finds out about the pregnancy – with sunglasses on. No actor would want to do that in a big emotional scene with close-ups.

The cutting I was referring to was a few weeks ago. Like Mini getting fired at the editorial, and who knows what else. Maybe the cut stuff wasn't important, but that should be for the viewers to decide.

When people have been watching faithfully for many months, it's not fair to start omitting entire scenes during the final weeks. I'm sure most of us would have preferred to lose stuff at the beginning of the TN rather than during the final weeks, but this must have been a last-minute decision (as are many of Univision's programming decisions).

Maggie - I don't know about a massive viewer rebellion, but it's getting harder and harder for me to summon the enthusiasm to watch any more. What you describe is a big part of the reason.

As for Tizoc's eyes - I wonder if the actor gets migraines. Regular office lighting is pretty painful when I have a migraine; the lights on a set must be agonizing.

Aha! I just looked up what was wrong with the actor's eye. He was getting into a car in April when he was robbed and assaulted. They got him pretty good in one of his eyes and he had a terrible swelling and bruising. Hence the sunglasses in the final weeks of filming.

I was very happy to see that almost everyone here enjoyed Minerva. As Doris during CI she was one of my favorite characters but, especially early on, some who were watching the show with us were annoyed by her character. As has been previously noted here, Ingrid Martz has become a very talented comedienne. And how fortunate as La Paloma points out, that she joined by Isela... what a perfect diabolical pairing.

Carlos

At the beginning of this tn I had decided not to watch, because Jaime Camil and Mark Tacher aren't my cup of tea. But someone (I think it was Madeline) suggested I give it a try and, boy, was I ever glad I did! I like Zuria Vega and had never seen the AS actress (Silvia? ???) in anything, but I stopped thinking of who the actors were immediately and it became all about the characters. I really liked this tn, saw the whole thing and enjoyed the finale for the most part. So thank you, Recappers, you made it that much better.

A few comments -

Alejo told the RPs that they were vultures (not vipers) ... and they started acting like that, screeching, flapping wings, very funny.

Emi's last remark to his father was a very quiet but emotional, "I really love you, but I want to live with Mom."

I believe Alejo choking up was real and not a distraction. When he said, "I love you son" as Emiliano ran from him there was no one around him. MA hadn't reached him yet.

A small nitpick: Not fair that the judges for the Nopalera queen included Guendy and Nepo. No wonder Perla and Frida won. They should have made other merchants be all the judges.

AS turnaround WAS sort of fast, but it really hurt her that her favorite, Leo, was so ashamed of her and disgusted when she told him about the forgery instead of congratulating her, as she had expected. Then, to make things worse, he said, "I'm going to the Nopalera festival and leaving you here with your REAL favorite son, DaVinci." That woke her up. Great acting by these two actors.

Okay, another nitpick: How did Oyuki (poor thing) end up back again with MiniSela? And what happens to her now? (Not that important, but still)

Ay, pobrecito Saul with Valentina from Argentina!

MA's final preaching moment should have been cut way down and would have not seemed so condescending (to me, the viewer, IMO) if either: a) Mati had delivered it or b) he would have directed it at Emiliano.

And yes, agree with Carlos that this left you wanting more, just what you want in a finale (well, what I want, anyway)!

Great job, everybody!

Sammie (formerly Anon)

PS - Still don't much like JC and MT, but will give the projects a chance from now on. :-)

YES! Guendy and Nepo as judges?! That contest was totally rigged! I did like that the third judge...of a beauty contest...was the owner of a meat market. Yep.

Also, Perla was disqualified because of a professional modeling job, but Frida wasn't disqualified for not currently residing in La Nopalera? Well, whatevs. No one took it that seriously.

I was hoping Frida and Tizoc would have a girl. Not so sure even the imaginary world really needs a Tizocito...oh well. Surprised they didn't have the bebe in sunglasses to match daddy.

Great sleuthing, Vivi! Those must've been some muggers, because the actor sure is muscley!

I've heard some people say they don't go for Jaime Camil because he waaay overdoes it, but I thought his performance this time was subdued (for him), and very nice.

I thought he overdid it a little in the beginning with the sliding off chairs and climbing on the sofa, but overall I like JC's performance.

But I thought the real star of the show was Leo. EXCELLENT performance. Even when he was a snobby jerk, he was interesting, and as he evolved the emotions and reactions were so believable. Plus, he was very funny.

Julia- yes and double-yes about Leo. Outstanding performance!

Welcome, Sammie! Glad you enjoyed it.

I'm not even going to try to single out a favorite actor in this thing. Almost every one of them had stellar moments, even the minor bit players, and were pouring their hearts and souls into every performances.

And I have never seen so many lovable villains in one place - that is, bad or semi-bad characters who I'd rather see turn themselves around than be squashed by anvils. I don't think you can direct that or write it into a script. Not completely. It's up to the actor to provide the nuance that makes it real, with the subtlety of a sidelong glance, a twitch at the corner of the mouth, or an unexpected sparkle in the eye. (I'm talking about the Nepos, the Ana Sofias, the Leos, etc.)

The only exception is Isela. As far as she knew, Alejo was planning to murder Mati, and she chose to save that information for blackmail rather than save Mati's life. If she'd actually had a chance to try the blackmail, Ahole would have killed her. On the other hand, MA would have been very, very grateful and probably generous for a chance to catch Alejo in the act of attempted murder.

So, funny or not, slinging hash at the fonda doesn't come close to what she deserved in my book. I'm not sure what would have satisfied me. Maybe if she'd been crushed to death by a collapsing pile of the useless junk she bought.

Carlos – “I think that I might have liked Perla a little more than the rest of you. She seems to have such a pleasant innocent view of the world.”

I agree with this. Although she did have rough spots there was Something About Perla that made me like her, even with her rough edges.

Julia – “I hate hearing The Moral of the Story spelled out by a character or voiceover at the end. ”

I can’t say I hated it, but reporting the moral with bullet points does demerit the story because as some one said, the moral can be different for different people. It needs to be left open ended and left to the criteria (or lack thereof) of each viewer.

La Paloma – “Loved how MA used the plastic ring for the proposal, then changed it over for the diamond. The whole TN was actually about changing cheap and temporary values for precious and lasting ones.”

Yes, the story was about truly appreciating what is valuable, but I disagree with your comment about the ring representing change. The plastic ring showed how something can be so precious even though it has no monetary value. Somehow I think Lupita cherishes the first ring much more than the second; she even wore it to the church wedding.

Tizoc and Fida – I am glad they did not end up together, although that last kiss seemed to imply that there was a commitment between them. Tizoc never seemed mature enough to be in a serious relationship. He was quick to criticize and act stupidly. Even in the last (or next to last) episode when the Menchacas were in the Editorial’s reception he was flirting with the receptionist. She seemed to cringe. If he did have any reasonable commitment towards Frida he would not have done that.

Miguel Angel and Lupita’s wedding – I loved that “Fin” was not splattered across the screen as soon as they came out of the church. Instead they chose to keep the story going a little longer to let us see what happened after the wedding, but I kept wondering about some little things such as: Where did MA and Lupita live? How did Emiliano feel about MA? How did her lifestyle change after the wedding (not referring to the money)?

Vilma – I did not like how her story wrapped up. Legally, last we heard she had posted bail… and then what? Were charges dismissed? Was she found innocent? I know that a deal could have been made, but I would have imagined that it did not include total impunity. I would have liked her to have done her time in jail then moved on with her life, realizing that she had been taken by Alejo. But no, instead the story turned her in to lunatic, obsessed woman who will never find happiness (the best that could happen to her is if Alejo dies, very quickly).

Ana Chofis – Someone mentioned that her change happened too fast. I agree. It seems as though the instructions read “Add water and stir for 3 minutes”. There, character fixed! Alas, it is one of the novella commandments: “Thou shall fix everything in the last episode”. I really wanted to savor her redemption. I wanted the other characters to savor it too. There was too much story left untold: Her relationship with Leo and Frida and her future grandchild and her partnership with Carmelita.

Emiliano – I felt as though there was something missing there. Worships scumball dad, gets “kidnapped”, gets let go, loses dad and everything just seemed so as-a-matter-of-fact. Even when he overheard his parents arguing it seemed as though he had forgotten it within the next 5 minutes. There was always a reaction missing.

Isea/Mini Karma – It went only so far. In fact, at the end it seemed as though they were content with their fate.

Alejo – Minus Vilma, he sowed what he planted and his situation was left as hopeless. Yet, in that brief second when he let Emi go he showed the tiniest bit of integrity. That moment made me wonder about him.

And of course, in that last episode we saw Tizoc don some shades which made me wonder what was up and Perla ditched the flower in her hair and started dressing more professionally. (See commandment above).

Thanks all for making this novella a fantastic experience!!!

Recappers, thank you for the great job you did on this episode and all the rest!

I thought it was a very sweet and satisfying ending. It was a little cheesy in parts, but I loved it. One of the things I most enjoyed over the course of the show was seeing the stuffy, unhappy RPs evolve and learn to be a real family and support each other. All of the characters were great and I will miss them. It was so nice to see most of them come together at the end, even Mini and Isela.

I was still hoping Saul would meet the perfect woman, but Maca will do. I’m happy she made an appearance.

Julie, I thought about Jonathan and Jennifer too. I hoped they would show up in their plaid shirts one last time.

I think Alejo did end up caring about Emi in his own selfish way. I see that as part of his punishment-- realizing what he missed out on by choosing the dark side.

Rikki

QPTR was amazing. Production values were outstanding. The acting was phenomenal with not a single miscast part.

Many thanks to the recappers as well as the commentators. The blog conversations only heightened the viewing experience.

I really hate to see this show end. But all good things must come to and end...porca miseria!

Rob

Salvador, I wouldn't discount the sentimental value of the plastic ring at all. Just as MA showed the crowd of society daughters he already had a novia he loved, he showed the world he has a fiancee he values with a symbol the world understands.

Recappers excellent and great job! I really enjoyed reading everyone's comments and opinions too.

Alejo finally gets caught. Although he's spending his last days with Vilma. I think She will be very happy having to take care of him all the days of her life.

I also agree Alejo had a softening moment when Emiliano told him he loved him. But it wouldn't have lasted. So yay for Emiliano for running to his mama. Yah the policia showed at the nick of time. I too had to bust up laughing at the chauffeur bumping Alejo's head and body around. That was hilarious he threw his body in the back seat. lol...

Oh yeah so glad Emiliano finally got his wakeup call. And was proud of him for apologizing to his friend Paco.

That was too funny Gwendy did look like she was PG with twins and eating her torta. Hopefully Nepo will get his little football player.

I was also delighted to see DA go with his mom to the USA to get to know her as his mom.

Frida and Tizoc's baby is so cute. They looked happy. I read in someone's comments that Tizoc had gotten attacked and they mess-up his eye. I was sorry to hear that but I'm glad he's okay and didn't get killed.

Perla did look prettier with her hair fixed a different way

Tomas and Saul will make a great tag team.

That was a good surprise to see Maca at the airport. Saul saw her legs and zoomed in on her. Valentina from Argentina very original lol... They can have an exciting life together.

That was so cute how MA proposed to Lupita. That plastic ring had a lot of sentimental value indeed. I liked how she wore both of them. MA made it from his heart so it is worth more than any diamond ring. Although diamonds are a girls best friend. lol... It was cute to see MA, Lupita and Emi so happy together. Hugging and laughing together. By the way I did not mind MA's message at the end.

on another note the pageant just didn't really seem to fit in not at the end of the finale. And I also noticed the judges and thought that it wouldn't be fair. I knew already who would win. NO brainer there! lol

Don Chuy is getting closer to Carmelita his novia now! What's next marriage!!! They deserve each other. She has been so good to him and to all the kids. She has been there second mom. Plus she put up with AS. Speaking of so glad they are now friends and cooking together. And opening up new restaurants way to go RP and Menchacas they will all be rich soon!!!

That was a great scene with Leo and Ana Sofia how he spoke up and told her how she really is who she really was. So happy it finally opened her eyes.

I like the new Juice business office. Its nice they are doing well in the juice business way to go Miguel Angelo!

I don't want to forget the mother daughter team. Isela and Minerva. They were very good actress and very funny too. Minerva was totally funny telling that old guy stuff about herself. And he said he rent her till she got old looking. lol... And her mamita acting like she lost her mind so she could be waited on. lol... Now that was hilarious seeing them both working at the Fonda. I guess they couldn't totally get rid of them. I like the laugh Lupita and MA gave them. lol...
But they do have a fabulous house they live in. I'm sure it was paid for that old guy must have been in his 90's and should have had it paid by then. lol...

On a serious note over all I had a good time watching this Novela and the grand Finale was good too. I laughed a lot and shed a few tears but laughed more. No complaints from me cuz I know I couldn't write a better show. Plus I'm sure lots of stuff was cut out because of time restraints you know how that goes if you ever worded on project management/planning. You know time is of the essence.

Its been fun and in the future if I ever watch another novela I will surely look this blog up.

As Isela would say
BYE !!!!!!!!!

Salvador...
regarding...
Where did MA and Lupita live? How did Emiliano feel about MA? How did her lifestyle change after the wedding (not referring to the money)?
I believe MA and Lupita did have a conversation about this and they had agreed to find a comfortable middle ground... I don't think they would live with AS at the big house... they would find a comfortable but not overly huge or splurgy home.. one Lupe would gladly make 'their home'.
(sorry, my dvdr removed the final ep as soon as i hit 'record' on the sal y pimienta that followed so i can't get the actual dialogue for you... but they did discuss this)

As far as Emiliano, I think he is old enough to understand what would have transpired without being explained word for word that his dad made some mistakes (he remembered what Mati had told him about this)... and the scenes with him and Lupe and MA left me no doubt that he would be just fine as his old self (yes it was rushed, but i am ok withthat)

and ITA with those who say the Leonardo character and the actor who portrayed him, Ingrid, the actress who did Isela and Sylvia Pasquel did an outstanding job here.

Yes, I agree Jaime was a bit overboard with his comedic part in the befinning (the chairs and tumbling over sofas and tables)
but like it was said... it is Jaime Camil.... and I did not have a problem with the 'final words' either.

Mads,
woudl you mind changing where I say 'viper' for 'vulture'? i jsut could not remember the 'vulture' word when i wrote the recap.

thanks, Mads.

One last "Thank You!" to all of you recappers and commenters. I loved the show and loved the ending. My favorite was Vilma's final dominance of Alejo - so appropriate!
I thought I heard a little click and saw Alejo pull the trigger when he had the gun at MA's neck, meaning that he would have killed him but was without bullets. Did anyone else think that, or am I imagining things?

Ann C,
I thought the same thing about the gun and him having no bullets in it.

Glad it wasn't just my imagination.

My sister and I watched it together and I had mentioned it to her. But she's hard of hearing so glad you brought it up.

Yay Alejo got his and Vilma got the love of her life. Lol...

AnaG

Thank you to the recappers! About Perla Ivette, personally I always liked her because she was so optimistic and bounced back quickly from every disappointment. I wish I had those traits.

Glad to have an explanation for Tizoc's sunglasses because I knew there must be something wrong with his eyes in real life -- no way Chuy would let him wear sunglasses at the dinner table.

This was the best-written telenovela I have ever seen. Everything made sense and every plot thread was meticulously wrapped up at the end. I could tell Univision was cutting it heavily near the end of the show -- I WISH THEY WOULDN'T DO THAT -- but even with the cuts I could follow what was happening and infer what had been left out. I suspect Ana Sofia's transformation would not have seemed so sudden if the show hadn't been hacked up at the end. Oh well.

It's hard to think of anything at all to criticize in this telenovela. The actors were great, the costumes were well thought-out and a lot more believable than in most shows (even Minerva wore some dresses twice!) The sets for the Menchaca house were excellent. The attention to detail in the show is admirable. I've never liked the actress who plays Minerva, but she was hilarious in this show. Her mother was hilarious. I find Jaime Camil's slapstick hilarious, too -- and I generally don't like slapstick. This show was/is flat-out great, and I'm going to miss it.

The only thing I didn't like was Alejo's ending. I cringed at seeing him get dropped on his head, and I didn't like seeing him chained up/drugged for life. Yes, he deserved it, but I don't believe in torture for anyone. But I understand the writers need to assure us that his reign of evil had ended. (Actually I think he would eventually talk gullible Vilma into letting him go, then probably kill her. So I'm going to image that doesn't happen till Emiliano is a grown-up and no longer gullible.)

Sorry, I meant "imagine," not image!

Hmm. Alejo pulled the trigger but had no bullets. Isn't that a reflection on his entire life?
A. He tried to buy his son's affection but Emi still chose his mother.
B. He connived to get the presidency but never got it.
C. He stole Minerva from MA to fulfill the clause and torment MA. But she can't get pregnant, and MA was glad to be rid of her.
D. He tried to kill Mati but she died of natural causes.
E. He used Vilma as his pawn but instead she controls him.
F. And the most obvious, his lack of "bullets" um, ahem, down there.

Heh, too true! And he killed Adolfo to hide his money laundering - but he was caught anyway (with a murder charge added to his list of crimes).

And all of this was motivated by jealousy towards MA, and/or greed. For all the effort he put into his misdeeds, he might as well have run the business in a straightforward and honest way, won his grandparents' trust, and had a nice life. It just wasn't in his nature!

Paula and Julie - too true. This is definitely poetic justice!
Carmel - you are much nicer than I am. I laughed to see Alejo's head banged in the "grave robbing" and loved contemplating his fate with Vilma.

Hey all,

I was done in by the finale being at the END of the weekend. I usually catch up on the weekend and so didn't see the finale until yesterday.

Though I could quibble with how things went here and there, I thought it was one of the better telenovelas I've seen. I cared about or enjoyed most of all the characters. I suspended disbelief infrequently. And, I learned a lot of vocabulary! (though putting it in my long-term memory storage is still another matter).

Julie, Jane, Ezra, Mads and Marta, Thank you so much for being our guides and helpers with this fun time. I am constantly impressed and grateful about the generosity of time and effort the recappers give us. Those of us who hang out on Caray Caray are so lucky that we have had such wonderful volunteers.

I'm going to miss this show and its engaging cast. And, I haven't decided what I can manage for my next telenovela. But I hope to be with all of you again soon!

Barbara
