Que Pobres tan Ricos #143 July 25, 2014 ... FINALLY... Nepo and Gwendy engaged!! and MATI found her Doctor Miranda!! Tomas the hero again!!

Here's a treat I found from one of my favorite movies of all time...
Mr Deeds goes to town court scene  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=75Ic6hPsgmk

MA finds Frida eating ice cream like crazy in kitchen/dining room. She says there are so many changes going on in her life… y eso!

MA tells Frida that Lupe is too stubborn, too Menchaca.

Frida takes the entire gallon of ice cream to her room. MA protests.

Lawyer and A-hole meeting… A-hole fakes concern for his family going back to dirt poor.

Tay’s video shows up on TV, Frida is upset. With her painting  the pamphlet says 'inesperado?’ (unexpected?)

New:

At bar named La Amargura (sorrow), Gwendy and Saul are wrapped in each other’s arms… Gwendy seems to be half drunk, seems to be ready to take Saul home for some pow-wow.

At studio, Perla talks to the models she helped out with the make-up. The girls say she is AWESOME. Modeling is a very hard career, besides being very short, you end up rejected after only a few years. Tizoc comes to them… takes Perla away. The models are a bit sickened by Tizoc coming by(?)

Gwendy and Saul keep it going at the bar, he finally gets the check. Her cell phone rings. It is Lupe. Lupe tells her about Nepo’s visit. Gwendy afraid she returned with Nepo again… on the contrary, he came to tell her he doesn’t love her. That he has the hots for a girl from the barrio. Gwendy guesses who it could be. (carror hair?? LOL!) Lupe says nope, it is some girl named Gwendys! He finally realized you are the girl of his life!! Gwendy says ‘men are like the two legged cockroach, until they see her with another, they don’t realize how much they care. ‘ Lupe tells her don’t reject Nepo just for too much pride. Gwendy says no, she is now interested in someone else. Gwendy hangs up on Lupe and says ‘sorry but Nepo already lost me’. She goes back to Saul and kisses him… He is ready to go to her place… but she has changed her mind… he wonders if he did something inappropriate… you did, and I liked it, but the issue is not that… then what? … she ends up leaving him sitting there… without a real reason. ‘quedo de ti muy atentamente, lic Saul Ballesteros…’

AS is getting used to ring the bell at the table, like she used to in the first few episodes. MA is trying to talk to Leo… maybe you can help me at the juice business. Leo is not on board. But Frida is. Leo and Frida again argue. AS nags at them. Proletariada … a ver si se te bajan los sumos.

Perla and Tizoc are singing the cellular song at fonda dining room in front of Chuy, who is not amused. Lupe and Carmelita are there too. Chuy is still miffed at Tizoc for having ‘sold your soul’ to this guy. Lupe has tears in her eyes listening to Carm suggest to Perla to go back to work with Gwendy. Perla says she read in her horoscope ‘Capricorn: the opportunity is knocking on your door… you will be famous’.

MA is in shock that they are serving chilaquiles (eggs with peppers?) at the RP palace. AS claims it is fine dining too. Leo tries to fake it. But MA says it like it is ‘you and my mom are missing La Nopalera’. MA wants them to manage their money well. AS gets upset, asks why he is saying that. MA yells at the cook something that Frida finds amusing… but Leo and AS are suspicious of his behavior.

Lupe and Tizoc are talking… Carm comes with some dishes she prepared (also imitating AS accent) from AS’ book (tortilla Espanola, and some others). They all are tasting them.

At Mini’s hotel room, she and Isela are also having breakfast. Mini reminds Isela that they need to claim the house from A-hole. Isela says since neither RP man wanted you, you need to target another millionaire. Mini reminds her she is sterile, she can’t conceive babies (bodoques). Isela says she does not want Mini to end up alone. Mini wants her ot stop her ‘dedicated mother script’. Isela admits she was never a good mother, but they do love each other anyways… ‘who loves you?’.

Saul is telling MA his blues about Gwendy standing him up while they walk into MA’s office for the juice business. Saul claims he is a good guy and is only looking for a girl with whom to share his life. MA reminds him he was with Gwendy for having a good time… MA is trying to get Saul to admit he likes ‘la Gwendys’. (MA even dances for it…)

Frida on phone, again upset… has to show up at hospital with the test results… this is for her first appointment for OBGYN… but by the time the nurse is ready to schedule Frida’s appt, she hangs up. Frida asks herself what she is doing with her life.

MA and Carm… Carm tells MA that Lupe is very quiet all day… MA guesses Lupe is still mad at him. But how is she with A-hole? Carm says Lupe doesn’t even mention him. She just thinks and thinks but she won’t say a word. MA says Lupe has not allowed him to talk to her. MA repeats he loves Guadalupe good… but sometimes she is so stubborn and so Menchaca, he doesn’t know what else to do to get her to forgive him. Carm again suggests patience… But don’t stop letting her know you love her… MA tells her she is an angel. Gwendy comes out… Carm asks Gwendy how did last night go… Gwendy says her heart twisted around at the last second… MA can’t wait for her to tell the rest of the story.

At Mercado, Nepo has the blues, DA comes to try to cheer him. DA guesses he is suffering for Gwendy. Nepo says Gwendy has another guy. Trofeo comes and says the same that DA, that Gwendy really loves him.

Gwendy says Lupe convinced her to accept Nepo. And she sent Saul packing. MA says he knew she and Saul were dating… but what he did not know was that Gwendy and Nepo had something going on. MA says ‘if it is worth anything for you, Lupe is a great advisor… just she never follows her own advice.’ He does not want Gwendy to give any advice to Lupe… LOL!

AS gives the lawyer the power of attorney from MA. The lawyer looks at it very carefully. AS says ‘I put Dio as my witness’. The lawyer says this is good, will submit it to the Editorial Board so she can also manage the RP fortune.

Carm seriously advices Gwendy to go after Nepo. Gwendy says she had made her mind then she had doubts, but now she has made up her mind again that she will go for Nepo again. She warns Carm that if Nepo sends her batting again Carm will pay her. Gwendy goes out (to find Nepo).

At school, Tato and his buddies are fooling around again. They push a Nerd guy around and Frida comes to yell at them to leave him alone.

Dr Miranda comes to see Mati at Tomas’. Tomas is the one that got him to come. Mati thanks Tomas. Mati asks who came into the office for the doctor’s number. Tomas says he did not go in the office at Editorial, he just got to work searching for the Doctor until he found him. Doctor tells Mati and Tomas that one day A-hole told him he found another doctor and no longer wanted his services. Mati says if this Doctor had continued her treatment, she would have been much better long time ago. Doctor says no problem, I can be your doctor again, just let me check you out now.

Frida talks to the nerd guy at school. He says Tato and his gang have been bullying him and others around. He tells her she has a fame of being ‘defender of causes’ but the truth is she is just like Tato, no help.

AS again talking to Beba and Chabela… AS insists she will make the donations, and Beba repeats that once that is done she will submit the request again that AS get welcomed to the social circles again. They are about to play cards again, Beba suggests they start with 1000 Euros… AS nags about the quantity. Beba and Chabela say that is our usual. AS suddenly surprisingly gets into a speech of how many poor kids would eat with that amount. Chabela and Beba ignore her statement and say lets bet. AS catches herself and says ‘you are right. It was just a brief lapse. Lets play’.

Nepo and Gwendy meet. Nepo wonders if she is looking for someone else. Gwendy says she did come to talk to him, but maybe I should go… (Nepo stops her) He wants to talk, he feels a twist in the organs when they are mad at each other… he wants to get back with her. Gwendy asks if he is sure of it. Nepo says yes, even talked to Lupe about it. (Trofeo and DA are watching..) Nepo tells Gwendy that what he feels for her is… to die for’. (DA pushes him from behind to hug her… Nepo says ‘what I want to say is…’ (he kisses her to the cheers of DA and Trofeo).

MA talks to the investigator on phone… still no news about Mati.

MA worried, Saul asks whats up now. MA says he has to come up with something to unmask A-hole and to convince Vilma to say the truth.

Top Cop tells Vilma that the bullets found in her apartment match the bullet that was first shot at Adolfo Giron, the one that killed him.

Back to Nepo/Gwendy… Nepo says he even had thought of bringing her a mariachi… Nepo even has a ring on him and is proposing to a very excited Gwendys… Nepo gets on his knees… Gwendy.. you want… to be my wife? ….. Pero que yes!! … Nepo has to get DA to help him stand back up… Nepo again asks Gwendy if she will marry him. She repeats the yes… ‘Mi reina del Platano Macho!!’… They kiss again.

Top Cop and Vilma… the results of the gun tests make her the top suspect in Adolfo Giron’s death. Top Cop gets yelling at her. They even have photos of her and Adolfo in her apartment, alone! (I wonder if Vilma is trying to figure out how the photos got to him).

Gwendy is showing her ring to every sales lady at the Mercado. Nepo says there is an easier way to do this. They both stand on a bench, Nepo shouts to everyone that Gwendy and him will get married very soon. And now instead of the king of the bananas he will be the king of this mango!! And just to celebrate this he will discount all the bananas from $6 down to $5.97.

MA and Saul come out to find out about the commotion. Nepo announces to him AND SAUL that he will marry la Gwendy. Saul not happy.

Lupe and Emi, Emi again has an attitude. He wants his dad to buy him his school clothes this time. Lupe nags at him that it is not right that now he wants his dad to buy him everything. She has always worked hard so he would not lack anything. Emiliano says she always works and she can’t buy him ‘good’ things, that it is easier for him to ask his dad. Lupe gets more irritated and says ‘lately you are changing a lot since you have been meeting your dad’.

Gwendy talks to Saul, explains ‘ni modo, guero, you can’t control your heart’. Saul asks her to be honest… do I scare away the women? Of course not.. you could have any woman you want. Maybe you can practice your language… (get the girls to understand you easier)… Nepo gets a bit jealous, so Saul takes his exit after his usual farewell signature phrase. MA gives Saul a comforting hug.

Gwendy asks Nepo if he lost the ‘macho pride’ issues and will be faithful to her… everyone celebrates and cheers for ‘los novios!’ … Gwendy asks Nepo that just like he will respect her, he should also respect DA.

Vilma is still firm, she will stay quiet until her trial. Top cop warns her that this new development is making her defense very complicated… Vilma won’t bulge. Top cop’s cell phone rings. It is his people, seems there are news…

Lupe is still arguing with Emi… lately it seems money means more to you than the people who love you. Emi claims his dad has not taught him bad things… Lupe gets angry at him and asks him not to answer her so much and sends him to his room.

The cops bring a woman in. She wants to know why she is there. She is under suspicion of kidnapping. (is this the nurse that was watching Mati? Yes she is!) Top cop demands she tell him right now where Mati is.

Lupe calls A-hole. Lupe wants to know how long will this nightmare last. A-hole tells her you have to show up here at the office tomorrow, it is requirement that you are present so my transaction is legal. Lupe is not happy. She is not thrilled to show up in front of those folks, but as long as this whole nightmare is over soon, she will have to.

Previews for Monday… seems MA tells his family that A-hole will become the Prez of the corporate… A-hole is about to sign the papers that will give him control of the Corporate… But In comes Mati!!! ‘one moment!’ Everyone, including MA is totally shocked. YAY!!! MATI IS HERE!!! (wow! The walls are coming in toward A-hole fast and furious… from both sides… Mati and I have a feeling Vilma will join her soon now that she knows A-hole killed Adolfo.)

Thank you, Marta, for your great recap!

Interesting scenes:

Saúl with lipstick all over his mouth after playing kissy-face with Güendy.

Leonardo not knowing how close he is to the truth when he asks Frida if she is going to be studying and working like some vile single mother.

Eye opener for Frida: The nerdy guy tells Frida what he thinks of her when she says she has been picked on for being different by the same people. He asks how she'd be picked on for being different; she's just like them. Sure she's the defender of a lot of causes but in the end it's all talk and she really isn't doing anything.

Nepo and his "fruity" descriptions:
Güendy's smile is like a piece of watermelon; her eyes like (ciruelas pasas) prunes (!!!); she is the queen of the plantain; he is the king of this mango (Güendy).

The agent/detective is doing a good job. Lupe is acting like the walking dead. Maybe Mati can cure Emiliano if his brattiness.

Jarifa

BTW, chilaquiles are fried pieces of tortillas served with eggs, salsa, crema.Very tasty especially with salsa verde. Off to breakfast, but no chilaquiles where I am going. :(

Jarifa

Thanks Marta, lots of funny moments in this one. Another funny part of the proposal, Nepo starts to descend down to one knee, Diego and Trofeo start to help him get down, he tells them to back off, he's not an old man. And then when he's ready to rise, he turns and asks them to help him up, lol.

I guess that may have been the nurse who they brought in to the police station. I first thought it was Tomas's mother, they accused her of kidnapping, didn't they?

Thank you Marta. Like you I can't wait for Mati!

I was so happy for the nerdy guy to call out Frida. FINALLY somebody told her what the novela has shown us all along. Frida loves to think of herself as being above the vapid rich people, but she loves the lifestyle just as much as they do and really isn't much different.

I'm so glad they caught the despicable nurse. She was truly awful to a helpless old lady.

I felt really sad for Saul even though I knew it was coming. I always thought he'd end up with Vilma, but then she's still going to end up in prison when all this is said and done because she has committed crimes for Alejo, too.

Lupe continues to be an idiot for not telling anyone everything Ahole has done to her. So Emihole just has no context for how truly awful his daddy is.

Tomas' mom was not accused of kidnapping. The Menchacas were threatened by Alejo with being accused of kidnapping her.

Chilaquiles are made with old tortillas fried and then coated in salsa verde or roja so they get kind of soft but still have some crunch, then served with crema and some cheese (like Cotija), maybe a little cilantro and some onion. A lot of times it's served with eggs and even some meat. The Tex-Mex migas (there's a Spanish version that is completely different) is said to be inspired by chilaquiles, though there eggs are a requirement).

Laughed my head off at the breakfast food reversals, the RP's eating poor folk food and the Menchacas eating like the rico's. It is obviously that they both picked up something to like from their enforced co-habitation.

Yep Frieda did get called out for being a dilettante with her crusades something she obviously picked up fro AS and her charitable foundations. Starting to feel sorry for her as she really has noone to talk to, MA is too busy with his own stuff and no one in their right mind would confide in AS.

Lupe continues to be an idiot keeping things to herself and suffering in silence — the most annoying trait of all TN protagonists. Emilhole continues to be an insufferable brat and I'm surprised he hasn"t threatened to run away to live with his Papa especially now that he knows Lupe and Ahole are married.

I wonder how Lupe thinks things are going to be better once Ahole gets his way and the RP money (not so fast says Mati). Does she seriously think that once he cuts off contact with Menchacas that Emilhole will revert to his original self? Doesn't she even think the brat will throw a hissy fit about wanting to live with his father.

To be fair to Gwendy she didn't just run off leaving Saul with a face full of fuchsia lipstick. She told him she was in love with someone else. Felt sorry for him watching the Nepo engagement announcement and his sobbing on MA's shoulder wondering what is wrong with him.

Thanks, Marta. You cleared up a lot of things for me (I need so much help with the comedies.)

I wonder if the Nerd's words will move Frida to some sort of action.

Vilma looked really shocked that the gun was used to kill Adolfo. She can't be that naive, can she?

I was really hoping or a Saul/Guendy pairing, but Guendy looked so happy so I guess that makes me happy. Maybe they will pull a love interest out of the woodwork for Saul.

Jarifa- I laughed at Saul and Guendy with the lipstick everywhere, too.

Are Frida and her classmates in high school or junior college? Tato and his crew look to be in their mid-twenties, seemingly a bit too old for playground bullying.

Rob

supposedly Frida is trying to finish the 'prepa' (high school).

Thanks for your recap Marta.

Though I too wanted Guendy w/Saul, if she's happy, I'm happy.

I can't wait to see Mati return. That should wipe the smirk off Alejo's face.

Marta - Happy Birthday!!!
And, thanks to all you recappers and commenters for the last week and a half. I missed 7 shows while on vacation and LOVED being able to follow the plot and laugh along with all your good-humored comments and recaps.
It was fun watching 7 shows in 2 days via Hulu plus when I got home, but I missed watching in real time to enjoy your comments every night.

thank you! my birthday was great. My grandson has the same birthday and he got to go to a water park with his parents. so he had fun too.

Marta, thanks again for your comprehensive recap. I loved how you point out that Tomas is the hero once again. If Perla decides to give him the time of day (I hope not), she will be one lucky girl. Oh, and Happy Birthday!

Julie, Jane and Madelaine, thanks to you guys for the recaps the past week. Mads, thanks to you twice for double duty.

If AS was a little more patient, she is probably rich enough that at some point her so-called friends would come to her wanting money for this or that foundation and she wouldn't have to grovel for their acceptance. Not that she doesn't deserve it!

Since the RPs are back at the mansion, we have seen little of DaVinci. I hope it's just because of his renewed busy social schedule.

I thought the scene with Perla dancing while Tizoc sang was cute. Though Tizoc sold himself out to Alejo for this chance at making it, he seems to be doing pretty well with it. He could have had all this opportunity and still flopped.

Julia, apparently the actor playing Tizoc wrote on his Facebook page that Tay's nose is his real nose and he denies plastic surgery. He says Tizoc's nose was for the role he was playing in the show. So I think your right, only they flip-flopped it from real life. Tizoc in the show shoves something in his nose to be Tay, where the actor does something to his nose to look like Tizoc. Sounds pretty uncomfortable to me.

I think the writers were pretty ambiguous about Frida's appointment with the doctor. I think we are to wonder if she is thinking about abortion even if they didn't actually say it. The nurse told her all she needed for the appointment was her voter's registration card, proof of her residence and her lab results. However, nurse did say that it would be ideal for Frida to come in for the process to be explained and to discuss any doubts. That sentence could work with a first prenatal appointment too.

I don't think Frida is like a lot of the other rich people around her. Though she may have directed her energies foolishly (and probably somewhat deliberately rebelliously) earlier, she has honest charitable instincts. She is very young and didn't really have the knowledge base to know how to be effective or what is important. I don't think it's fair to lump her in the same group as her mom.
She has a generous heart. And, as far as liking the rich lifestyle…..very few people wouldn't like being rich. It's what you do with it while here that counts.

Nepo did darn little to deserve Guendy. I was never in favor of the Saul-Guendy pairing but I did want Nepo to have to work harder to get Guendy back. But I guess I'll go with Sara…. since Guendy is so happy, I'm happy for her.

Barbara

Marta- Happy (Belated) Birthday!!!

I am so behind on this show. I am happy that Gwendy has the man she wants, even if her doesn't deserved her (yet). It's really time for Alejo to start losing points. Looking forward to Mati throwing a wrench into some of his plans.

How funny about the nose thing for the Tizoc actor. Not sure why they had to do anything to his nose to make him look more "ethnic"/indio when his coloring and bone structure already do that, AND the rest of his family, minus Perla, don't look particularly indio either. Weird.

I agree, Vivi. Did we ever see a picture of the Menchaca family with the mom (Marcelita) in it, or a picture of her? I would bet she looked like Lupe... my question would be how come you have more 'indio' bone structure in Emiliano, who is child of Lupe's and Alejo's. They are both VERY fair skinned.

Because they are actors playing parts and not really related in real life.

Cathyx- Precisely why it's not important for them to do anything at all to Tizoc's nose.

Marta:

Happy Belated Birthday! I hope you had an awesome day. This recap was totally awesome, thanks so much.

I can't wait for Mati to throw those wrenches at Ahole this evening, and can we please hope that Vilma finally opens her mouth and tells on Ahole? I would so love that. Ahole really needs to go. I am sick of his smarmy butt.

I want Emi to really hear Ahole spew his crap. It is the only way, at this point, Emi will stop idolizing his horrible Dad.

My fondest wish for Ahole's ending would be ending up in the same jail that MA was in and being humiliated by MA's pals and Bambi's friends. Now that would be satisfying.

Mads, did you ever see La Hija del Mariachi (predec of QBA)? that is how they did the villains in the end, they put them in same jail as Emiliano and his friend were...
when the villains were brought in, one of the inmates asked 'who are these?' the other inmate answered 'these were the ones that screwed (se chin... a) the Mariachi and the Doc.' from that moment on we can tell it did not go well at all for any of the villains... nuff said!

Happy Birthday Marta! And thanks for giving us this recap.

Vilma Vilma Vilma. I think her brain is finally going to get in gear. She is a smart lawyer who knows Ahole could try to have her killed if she starts to tell on him. But she's got lots of time to think about her defense while in prison... Is she a smart enough lawyer to get herself out and put Ahole in at the same time?

has anyone noticed that every time A-hole ends a phone call with Emi we see A-hole sort of 'catch himself' having been a bit too nice to Emi? is it possible they are prepping us to believe that by the time it is all untangled in the end, A-hole will actually have some feelings for his son?

I remember for Refugio they went out and found a little boy who looked almost Exactly like Zuria looks like... he happens to play the school mate of Emiliano's. (not the ex-bff but the one that was bullying him early on). The kid has Zuria's eyes and bone structure.

Thanks, Marta!

I don't think Nepo had to work nearly hard enough to get back with Guendy. But whatevs.

And poor Saul, wondering what's wrong with him that the ladies always ditch him. What kind of message does this send, that the two guys who have it the most together, Saul and Tomas, are the ones none of the ladies want? It annoys me almost as much as the situation on LQLVMR, where all the smart competent women end up dead.

Minerva might be a potential love interest for Saul, especially if she could shake off her mother and let herself do things for her own happiness instead of being pimped out to keep mama in shopping trips.

Julia, you got a great point about how Saul and Tomas are portrayed here... however, I am not liking the Mini/Saul pairing at all... somehow i don't see Mini interested in him for long, nor do I see any benefit in him being with her.

She isn't ideal. We need to introduce a few new characters.

Thank you Marta! and happy belated birthday!

I never noticed the differences between the noses of Tay and Tizoc. I guess I never paid attention. I did see the scene where he shoves that thing on his nose but I couldn't tell the change.

I find it interesting how telenovelas seem to borrow the image of the American movies from the 80's when depicting the nerds at school. I went to a public prepa so we all wore uniform but from what I could tell from the private schools in Mexico City (I went there to study in a campus that had the prepa, University and graduate schools together), the "nerds" mostly dressed in jeans and button up shirts.

Jarocha

Marta:

No, I never saw LHdM. I would have loved to see MT sing though. Yes, the ending from that one would be perfect for Ahole. He is destined for something bad, especially after what he did to poor Dona Mati.

I just find the scenes where the whole crowd gangs up on the nerdy kid odd and like something from an 80s movie. I don't know. Maybe that happens. When I was in high school, it was more like the nerdy kids (aka me) were just ignored by the more popular kids. I never saw anyone go out of their way to tease someone for being nerdy...at least not like that. Maybe one person saying something mean, but not everyone joining in.

I think A-hole needs to end up in the jail where Bambi is the 'king of jungle' and A-hole will be the pin cushion for many there... that will also give Bambi some entertaining/activity.

in my school (and yes, I was the humble girl in catholic school full of rich spoiled bratts) it was more the lead of the bully group would do the bullying and the rest of the girls would laugh out loud... except once they pushed me down to the floor in front of the teacher... game over.

The little guy who played Zuria's son in Refugio did look like her. His name is Federico Parras and he was also the young Esteban in PSMA. I think he is adorable and talented.

Ahole does need to end up in jail but who knows if he will. His smarmy personality would not go over well in the big house.

In my school we had clicks but not as marked as in tv and we all used to get along. The popular kids were popular because they were liked by all or most. But then, that was public school, where we all wore the same uniform and came from homes with simmilar incomes.

I feel that in the most expensive private schools there's a slight difference due to the power of money. There are kids who are popular because they are exceptionally rich, so they don't have to be nice, and some of them (not all) can be mean and still have a group wanting to be around them. What I find strange though, is when telenovelas depict the nerdy bullied guy to be the richer one, like in MCET, because usually they would get some kids on their side too and the school's administration would pay better attention to them in fear of the power of their parents.

Jarocha

I think I went to a kind of odd high school. It was in a small community where there were a lot of VERY rich people, but also a lot of poorer people, all at the same school. But the rich kids usually tried to downplay their richness. Being flashy about money was seen as uncool, and making a big deal about having expensive brands of things was seen as trying way too hard and kind of pathetic. A lot of the most popular kids were some of the poorest.

Well, Mexico is very classist in general. And public school has a terrible image. Some of the bigger cities in each state have two or three good schools and If you don't get a place in one of them then you are doomed with a terrible education. That's why some people spend their lives working to get their kids at least into less expensive private schools, like Lupita, and people with money just send their kids to most expensive ones.

At the risk of getting too political, that's why it boggles my mind when the teacher unions speak against the education reform. Saying that introducing testing for teachers and reducing some of their rights (like the right to inherit their job to their children) is part of a plan to privatize education. When it seems to me that their terrible results is what is driving the parents to send their kids to private schools.

Jarocha

"...like the right to inherit their job to their children"

The first time I read that in Proceso magazine and in Reforma, I thought I had mis understood.

Boggles the mind indeed.

Wait...really? Teachers' kids can inherit their jobs, without having to compete for those jobs based on their own merits?

Well, they could. Supposedly, with the new reform they won't be allowed to.

They used to sell or rent their jobs too. Since it wasn't only their children that could inherit the position but also anyone they'd choose, once they reached retirenment age they could sell their job to anyone if their children didn't want it or rent it for a while (while keeping their names as the titular of the position) until their children's became of age or decided to teach.

Jarocha

And I thought the Seattle school district was corrupt and mis-managed!

A belated thank you to Marta for this recap, and happy birthday as well!

Wow, suddenly Nepo is reformed, and AS is talking about feeding poor people. Amazing... like magic... not entirely convincing, but I'll take it because I'm tired of the alternative!

I didn't think the scene with Frida on the phone to the clinic was ambiguous at all. There was even a silent/bleep as the nurse said "abortion" (or some word like it which, apparently, is too offensive for us to hear even in the 10pm time slot!!). That's why Frida hung up in such horror.

Rob, some people are NEVER too old to bully others, and even in a corporate environment they sound a lot like Tato.

Marta, I've noticed that thing where Ahole seems more and more interested in Emiliano and wondered if it would end up the way you describe. A little extra emotional anguish for him to feel while he's being taunted in prison.

I'm so glad Mati finally made her grand appearance.

Thanks for this great recap, Marta, and a tardy happy birthday.

To me it looks like we're at that point where the good guys start winning. Mati's back and Vilma seems to be waking up to reality. I'm really looking forward to tonight's episode which could be pivotal.
