TELEMUNDO Y MÁS: THE FRONT PAGE, week of November 18, 2013. La Reina y más...

I think that our experiment has turned out very well. Though I'm sure everyone has the idea now - this page is for discussions of the novela reruns of La Reina del Sur, Donde está Elisa, other non-Univisión novelas, gossip and speculation.

El Marido en Alquiler has its own post here.

Santa Diabla has its own post here.

When I click here for SD, it says I don't have access.
If I click on Marido, I'm ok but I'm not interested in that one. Any suggestions?

Variopinta

The link doesn't work cause it's a recapper's sign in page.

REINA LUNES

Oooo, that Sheila is a bad one. One must never mess with Teresa Mendoza's thing! If Sheila and Ali know what is good for them they ought to run for the hills. Especially Sheila after she took Guero's picture and the necklace that Guero gave to Teresa!

Can't stand that perv of a police capitan.

Now poor Santiago is stuck with those guys that his friend chose to do bidness with. I did like Santiago going home to see his Mama. That was very sweet. IS is winning me over here, Herny (LT0 the character he played there is a distant memory : )

LA MADRASTRA

They are showing this on Uni Telenovelas network. I became curious about this one because of a link Carlos put in one of his recaps. It was a clip from "The Soup" that was a parody of this one. It strangely isn't bad. It is a Meija but it starts out great with a murder, a woman in prison for twenty years, her husband moving on with another woman, her children believe their Mama died twenty years before, they have no idea she is in prison, and the murderer is one of a group of seven or eight people. The woman in prison Maria(Victoria Ruffo) vows revenge and Esteban (Cesar Evora) wants to forget all about her and that he was married to her. He believes she is guilty. I am following this one. It is pretty good so far.

I think that I fixed the link to SD from the Front Page. Sorry about that.

Reina

you could title this episode, "if looks could kill".

Madelaine, I found the Santiago story confusing but it goes something like this, Santiago worked with a family of smugglers, (the top guy is Siso Pernas), but Santiago and Lalo left and went out on their own, and as the old guy says, you just can't quit, so they burnt up his boat and brought them back (to O Grove, Galicia, in northwest Spain). But now he is saying, if you do this one more job, he will let them go.

Deb:

Thanks for that. I was a bit confused about that old guy. I read the book like maybe two almost three years ago, borrowed from the library and couldn't remember. I wonder if the old guy, Siso Pernas will really let them go. Hmmmm.......

Oh, and did Jaime tell Santiago exactly how he met Teresa and what they did that one and only time?

Reina

yes I think Jaime did tell Santiago about Teresa, I like Jaime, he is probably the only good guy in this town.

if you are interested, there is more on this episode in earlier Caray,Caray posts.

this is how I do it,
the original started on 28 Feb 2011,
our show and the original both started on the same day, Monday,
so subtract 11 days from today's date, that gives the 8th and the month would be March, 2011,
from the index
http://caraycaray.blogspot.com/feeds/posts/default/-/telemundo?max-results=300
we find this page,

http://caraycaray.blogspot.com/2011/03/el-mundo-de-telemundo-week-of-march-7.html

and look for Reina Monday posts.

Deb et all, Siso Pernas is the son of the older guy, the hothead who was having Lalo beat up in Melilla. He has a violent hatred toward Santiago. The older man, head of the Galician mob, if you will, is, I think, Joaquin Pernas. I had the subtitles on for that Galician speech and I think they spelled it Xuaquin or some such. Galician sounds very much like Portuguese.

Reina

ah... thanks so much novelera!

REINA

Novelera:

Thanks so much. I just love the sound of the Galician accent. Very melodic. And thanks for the info.

REINA MARTES

Wow, what a beat down Teresa gave Sheila! My favorite scene was Fatima and Teresa's little chat. I am really liking Fatima. No wonder Teresa is gun shy, so to speak about Santiago. Why does Teresa keep calling Epifanio? I guess he has the power to "allow" her to go back to Mexico. I couldn't understand why she thought someone from Mexico came back to rob her. I could see if Ratas was out of jail.

That nosy neighbor I think is the landlady isn't she?

I just knew this last run for Santiago and Lalo was a trap.

So I guess Teresa wants to get back into the bidness with this Chaid (sp?) I didn't like the coranel putting his arm around Teresa saying she was his "favorite" girl. Basta Ya!

DEB

Thanks for the link to the recaps. They helped me.

REINA

Madelaine, I'm glad you also enjoyed how Fátima got Teresa to unburden herself. She's a true friend, something Teresa desperately needs.

Even watching the second time, the Pernas drug plan with three different boats and Santiago being caught red handed was confusing. It was clearer this time around that his boat was somehow sabotaged by the diver who swam up when they were loading the cocaine and thus distracted.

I got a kick out of Ahmed and Dris discussing Teresa going after Sheila. Dris: "Pobre Sheila". Sheila's wicked but not that smart, putting the photo right up on her mantel.

REINA MARTES

NOVELERA

I don't get why Sheila put that picture of Guero up on her mantle either. What isn't Ali enough for her, snort!

That Pernas plan was so confusing to me too. I get that the boat is leaking, I think Siso wanted to make sure they wouldn't get far and get caught red handed and just to be on the safe side, called the Guardas and not only tells them about the boat and it's cargo but the name of the Operator.

I did get a kick out of Ahmed and Bris too about Sheila. I was laughing with them. They must want payback for something she's done before. I agree she is wicked but not smart at all.

I can't wait to see how Teresa will talk her way into bidness with this Chaid guy, the most important person in Northern Africa.

REINA – MARTES

Decided to post a mini-cap as a jumping off place for comments.

Santiago figures out there’s a hole in his boat and the cable that was supposed to warn them has been cut.

When Pig Cáceres tries to stake a claim on Teresa in front of Abdelkabar Chaib, she completely humiliates him. She says she doesn’t like what they did because he’s fat and ugly and can only get “anywhere” with a ton of Viagra. Chaib is amused.

Sheila tries to steal back Teresa’s money from a sleeping Ali so Teresa will let up on her. Ali punches her out and appears to have killed her. He then drives her to a dumpster near her apartment and dumps her.

Santiago has almost fixed his boat but is surrounded by the Coast Guard.

Teresa sees Sheila put in the dumpster and tries to help her, but the nosy housekeeper of the apartment accuses her of having killed her. This whiny chismosa then tells Youssef, Ali’s evil police cousin that Teresa killed Sheila.

Santiago stalls until the pump has bailed out his boat and then guns it and escapes.

Youssef tries to arrest Teresa at the hospital just as she’s about to call Chaib for help. She manages to run. She runs all through the hospital. When he finally corners her, she pulls the same move she did on Ratas, a knee in the groin and then grabs his gun. She ends up handcuffing him to a locker and gets away.

Santiago has arrived at the dock where Siso and Xoaquin are standing open mouthed. Xoaquin says he heard Santi had been caught. Santiago says he heard wrong. He says that somehow mysteriously the Coast Guard knew exactly his coordinates and where he’d be. Santiago tells the old man he did his part of the bargain, and now it’s his turn. He wants his freedom. The old man has no choice but to honor his word.

Jaime, who I think is a Captain, finds Sergeant Youssef handcuffed to a locker. He tells him to stay away from Teresa Mendoza and to stay away from Sheila’s room.

Soraya and Fátima are with Sheila when Teresa arrives, having borrowed a scarf to disguise herself as a muslim. Sheila revives and says it was Ali who hit her. We see Youssef lurking outside the room, disguised as a doctor.

Santiago’s mother dies. He tells Lalo that nothing now binds him to Galicia. He’s going South.

Chaib is having a big party. Pig Cáceres rants on and on about having heard that Teresa is a murderer on the run. He’s definitely out for revenge for what she said. Dris sticks up for her, saying she’s worked for him a long time and never taken a dime. In fact, his profits are up.

We see Teresa approach Chaib and take off the head scarf.

REINA MERICOLES

Novelera:

Thanks so much for your mini recap.

I am glad that Sheila named who really tried to kill her.

I like your name for Caceres. He is a pig and I laughed when Teresa gave him that put down and Chaib was almost laughing. Like him speaking French too.

It was sad when Santiago's Mama died. Now he no longer has ties up there so agree.

I also laughed when Santiago showed up after his run and the Pernas' were pithed he'd actually made it. They way underestimated him. So glad he is out of that, but is he really??? I so don't trust them.

Youssef is scum along with his cousin Ali. Loved how Teresa handled him. She always seems to get herself out of sticky situations. I like that Jaime helped her out.

I can't believe that Chaib is in bidness with that Pig. I bet if he could he'd be doing his bidness with someone else. I don't think he cares for Caceres very much. I also liked Dris sticking up for Teresa. I'm hoping that Chaib ends up helping Teresa.

REINA

Thanks, Madelaine. I've been fairly miserable with a head cold, so I forgot what day of the week it was for the recap I did!

If there are any lurkers out there, either first time viewers of this magnificent telenovela or, like me, watching again, drop us a comment once in a while!!

Novelera:

I hope you recover quickly. Those head colds are nasty. Sending you healing vibes : )

I've been lurking for the past 5 minutes. It took me ages to find this place. Didn't realize it would just be the comments section of the most recent post, but I'm grateful to have found my peeps. Thank you novelera for the recap. I am a first-timer and I missed the first week bcs I had to wind up that William Levy extravaganza over on Uni, but am starting to get the hang of who the characters are. Your summary helped a lot. Love the different accents and languages now that we're out of Mexico. And it's great to see Ivan Sanchez in a serious role. That crazy clown he was playing in LaTempestad didn't show off his serious acting chops. At least we won't have to hear "BOING" every time the action heats up. Happy to be aboard. I'll try to comment a few times a week. —Agnes in NJ

Welcome, Agnes! I stopped watching Uni novelas. The last one I watched was En Nombre del Amor which was actually pretty good. But La Reina del Sur is beyond fabulous. There is absolutely no fat in this at all. It moves like a shark!

I'm loving this show partly for the Spanish accents. It's funny how they acted like Teresa's was almost exotic, being Mexican, but after watching a few novelas. it's like saying we have interesting accents. Nope. But love hearing the Spanish ones!

REINA

So agree with you Kelly. I am loving these Spanish accents and the way they speak. I like the way Teresa always gives her name and then says Mexicana. It's too cute.

LXV:

My comment to you got cut off. I am so glad you are over here. I too miss WL, but this TN is great. I usually don't watch the narco-novela ones but I heard so much about this one, and I read the book too, I wanted to see it. So far it's really good. Fast action, fast story.

Reina
Tks so much Novelera
I'm a Telemundo convert.
This & Santa Diabla are the best.I do like Mentir Para vivir, but have to catch that on computer.

OMG! I picked the best night to watch Reina tonight. (Thank you Latin Grammys.) Ivan Sanchez in all his glory-- making love and walking around in a towel. Yum! He got too skinny before his crazy role on La Tempestad. He looks damn good in La Reina with some extra pounds and muscle on him. :)

Right now on Uni, Mentir Para Vivir is very good and very fast moving (an original story too); and so far Robo is very good (even though it's a traditional tn), and Sebastian Rulli is more delicious than ever. There's usually at least one very good/entertaining tn on at any time on either of the two major Spanish networks. This past summer was a particularly dark time on both networks with slim pickings. Still can't bash Uni/Televisa more than Telemundo. I've seen very good tns on both, and really crappy tns on both.

did you notice, at the Ali/Yusef border crossing,
the dog grabbed that guards leg as he was walking away, yikes!

this is my second time for this novela, the first time through I think I spent most of the time just trying to figure out what was happening, and now, I'm just enjoying it, and if no one has mentioned it, I think the author of the book was a consultant on the show, why Telemundo would do something so right, has since been a mystery.

REINA Jueves

Poor Jaime. I hope they catch Youssef eventually.

Wow Santiago and Teresa. I thought he was going to completely ignore her cause he just walked by her. I agree with Vivi about the towel and shower, as I keep saying Herny who????

The Pernas' did let Santiago and Lalo go. I was really surprised by that.

I am liking Ahmed. He tells Teresa exactly what is going on and who is doing what.

I am glad all of Teresa's friends had her back when she talked to Chaib in front of Caceres.

Deb:

I did see the dog grab the guard's leg. I hope he didn't bite him. I didn't know the author was a consultant on the TN.

REINA

Vivi, you surely did pick the right night! The windows steamed up in my Living Room!

To this day, for me, the Kate del Castillo and Iván Sánchez lovemaking scenes are the most convincing I've ever seen.

So...another brief recap.

Teresa convinces Abdelkabar Chaib that she was innocent of trying to kill Sheila. He looks at her in a deep way and says he always knows whether people are lying or telling the truth. He manages to shut down Pig Cáceres' desire for revenge on Teresa for her comments about his "manhood". He does this by veiled threats that he could lose his job as the administrative head of the Melilla police because drugs were stolen from the station and planted to falsely incriminate someone.

Youssef realizes the jig is up in Melilla and he and Ali decide to split for Morocco. To finance this, Youssef decides to take all the cocaine from the police evidence locker. Jaime stops him on his way out, and accuses him of planting evidence. He then asks to see what's in the bag. Youssef stabs him and gets away.

Youssef and Ali almost make a clean getaway, but a message arrives at the border guard station just as they pull away. When they don't stop, guns are fired and Ali is killed.

Teresa and Fátima are walking back to the apartment and Teresa is saying that El Gallego has gotten to her a bit. He suddenly appears. In a scene that should be stalking, but somehow works, he follows her back to her apartment at a distance. He says they didn't meet in the right way and introduces himself. While Fátima smiles approvingly from the street, Teresa takes him up to her apartment.

Hotness ensues. Except she calls him Mi Güero at a critical moment. He asks what that means and she says it means rubio (blonde guy). He's upset, but she tells him that was her past and right now she wants him!

Teresa goes to see Sheila at the hospital before work. Soraya and Fátima are there, and Fátima teases her about Santiago. Sheila says she's not fixated on that guy any more. There's some teasing about how peculiar certain vocabulary words seem to both Teresa and the Spanish girls. Soraya tells Teresa that, during their night together, Lalo Veiga told her that Santiago and he were running drugs.

When Teresa gets to work Ahmed also confirms the rumor about Santiago and tells her she should stay away from people involved in drugs. Such irony. She says to herself that the pattern is repeating itself.

She's awfully forgiving. Sheila got her thrown into jail where she had to get with the pig to get out, helped steal her money, stole her emerald, and still Teresa is ready to make nice. Fatima was right in telling Sheila that she should be friends with Teresa.

REINA

Novelera - Thanks for these details. I don't normally watch Reina but know the story and watched it last night.

Chaib seems like a fairy godfather for Teresa. I'm wondering what his motivation is for helping her.

ITA on the towel scene. I believe I saw package movement under that towel. :D

REINA:

Novelera:

Thanks so much for the details and I hope you are feeling better.

I too want to know what Chaib's motivation is to help Teresa. I'm hoping eventually they will tell us if Dris Larby and Epifanio know each other. Didn't Epifanio recommend this place in Spain for her?

I agree about the Teresa and Santiago lovemaking. It did look real, not like some other TNs I've seen.

This TN really has an almost movie feel to it, instead of a TN feel and the story is fast moving. I think if they filmed this way and made other TN stories fast movers they would get bigger audiences. Although I have to say "Robo" over on UNI actually is beautifully filmed. Course I recap that one so maybe I'm prejudiced ; )

REINA

What's up with Chaib will be revealed before too very long. Don't want to write any spoilers.

Niecie, lol about "package movement".

As I said before, the pace of this novela is amazing. There are none of those boring scenes where two actors drone on about a "situation" and bemoan that something might happen. Lots happens and fast!

REINA – VIERNES

Santiago and Lalo talk with Suleiman about wanting to run drugs, but he says they can make a lot more money piloting pateras (small boats often used to transport illegals). Santi absolutely refuses, while Lalo is so on board with this idea.

Dris and Chaib inspect a warehouse full of more than 60 poor illegals. Chaib coldly says there has to be a payment for the kids too. We see them rushed onto a boat. Later Suleiman tells Chaib and Dris at Yamila that the boat was intercepted, the illegals mostly drowned because they couldn’t swim, and the pilot died as well. Chaib is only upset about the loss of the pilot.

At Yamila Teresa gives Santiago the cold shoulder. When he wants to know why, she takes him outside and says she’s heard he’s a narco. He admits running hash and tobacco. She tells him that his days are numbered. And that she doesn’t have the heart to go through that again. Santiago focuses on El Güero, asking if he was her man. She tells him that he’s dead and only lives in her mind. She begs him not to go to meet with Chaib. He’s arrogant and tells her they won’t kill him like they did El Güero. Then he loses his temper, saying no woman will tell him what to do.

Inside, when he meets with Chaib, he says he wants to run drugs, not people Chaib first offers him 5,000 euros per trip, and then 8,000. Lalo’s eyes are bugging out. Santiago says he’ll let him know tomorrow. Again he tries to talk with Teresa. But she says he’s worth a lot to those guys, but will be worth zero when he’s dead. And the difference between those guys and her is that for her he’s worth zero right now. He stomps out.

Fátima gets a call from her son, Mohamed. He’s left all alone in the village since her aunt who was caring for him died. She tells Teresa she had him at 14 as a result of a rape committed in front of her rebellious brother, who was then killed. If these guys find out he’s the son of one of them, she’ll never see him again.

Teresa tries to get Dris to help Fátima. He absolutely refuses. Then, in a very possessive manner, he asks her what’s up with the Gallego. She just gives him a scornful look.

Teresa then approaches Chaib asking if he could arrange some papers for Mohamed. Dris interrupts raging about Teresa usurping his authority. She finally jumps to her feet. “OK, that’s enough! You can’t treat me like one of your whores. Me you respect!" She goes to the bar, gets her jacket, and walks out. Dris totally freaks out, following her out to the street and trying to get her to come back.

We see Teresa smoking a cigarette on the balcony of her apartment. And we get a great quote from the book. La hora gris. Esta es la hora en que algun día me voy a morir. El momento que no es ni de noche ni de día. (The grey hour (dusk?). This is the hour in which someday I’m going to die. The moment that is neither day nor night.)

Teresa has Fátima over for breakfast and tells her they’re going to Morocco for her son. Fátima says over and over how difficult this Muslim country could be, but is finally convinced. They talk about pretending to be two wives, veiled of course, of a man, perhaps her cousin.

Reina

wow, thanks so much novelera for posting your today summaries!

REINA (viernes)
¡Gracias à novelera y deb! You guys have got me all caught up.Went back & read the previous recaps & comments. I'm loving Reina. Great acting, great pacing, fabulous locale. Love the languages. And…wait for it…UNCUT romance. Whew. That towel episode was pretty dynamic.

Chaib is the master puppeteer in this game. But he will show his weak spot at some point, I guarantee (no spoilers, as I am a total virgen). I'm puzzled by his interest in Tere, "not as a woman". I think the guy is too power hungry to be sidetracked by a love interest. He could be gay, but more likely polymorphously perverse (in the classic sense).

—Agnes

Novelera and Deb - Thanks for the recap and links.

Teresa had some great lines - the gray hour and telling Santiago he was already a zero to her now. No idea what will happen, but it seems she's smart enough to realize Chaib could turn on her one day.

TELEMUNDO news/gossip

"El señor de los cielos"

"Telemundo comenzó esta semana en México las grabaciones de la segunda temporada de "El señor de los cielos"". (Telemundo began this week in Mexico recordings of the second season of " The Lord of the Skies")

new actors (may) include Marlene Favela and Erika de la Rosa (Irene in "la Patrona")

but they also mention Fernanda Castillo (Mónica) with the returning cast.

REINA

Novelera:

Thanks so much for your recap. I can see why Teresa is so angry with Santiago. She doesn't want to go thru all that again. It's like what she left in Mexico is happening again. That saying from the book is haunting isn't it?

I wonder how Teresa and Fatima will pull this off, about getting Mohamed out of Morocco. Didn't Fatima tell Teresa it would be easier to get Mohamed out if Mohamed was in Marrakesh or Casablanca instead of where he is? Teresa sure has some moxie. I can't wait to see how this goes down.

Deb:

Thanks for the links.

Agnes:

I too am puzzled by Chaib and his non interest in Teresa. He is an interesting character.
